Homeowners Association News www.HOACC.org

The Hague bridge repairs have been completed at this writing, allowing residents a safer route to the office and Friendship Hall from the South. The major delay was the contractors concern that due to the thickness of the concrete on the bridge deck, they wanted to wait an additional week before allowing heavy truck traffic to use the bridge. The entertainment committee has confirmed the show schedule for the 2015/2016 season. It has been decided to proceed with a sixth show which will be held on May 13, 2016. The schedule will be in the Breeze as soon as all the sponsors are confirmed. The cost will be as follows, 4 shows, January thru April $35.00, 5 shows, December thru April $45.00, and 6 shows, December thru May $55.00 There is a new procedure for ordering tickets. Because there is always a long line at the December and January shows to pay for tickets it has been decided to require payment when you submit your ticket request. There will be ticket request forms in the Breeze along with one on the HOA web site. These can be mailed to us or residents can drop them in the wooden HOA complaint boxes in all four community halls. This will reduce the work load on our ticket personal. The show this month is our comedy night, with comedians Tim Wilson and George Casey. It should be a fun filled evening. The HOA has made arraignments to have the chairs in Harmony Hall PROFESSIONALLY cleaned. This cleaning will take place on May 13, 2015. The hall will be closed Tuesday May 12, at 7:00PM to remove all the tables. It will remain closed until Thursday May 14 at 12:00 PM. The cost of this cleaning has been divided into four equal parts. One fourth will be paid for by the HOA, one fourth by the Friendly Social Club, one fourth by ELS, and the remaining fourth equally by the New England Club, The Grey pretenders, The New York Club, The Hobby Club, and Bingo. We want to thank these organizations for stepping up so we can have this badly needed cleaning. ELS has purchased a sound system with a CD deck for the pavilion. This system will also have microphone capabilities. The system will be installed and in operation in a few months. This will allow the Pavilion to be usable for more functions besides picnics. The subject of notification of water shut offs was discussed at our last membership meeting. It is impossible to determine when a water main brakes just as it is with electric and cable interruptions. The issue of shut offs for maintenance is another story. The office has an e-mail list of residents by geographic areas and they use it for these notifications. If you are not on that list please stop by the office and provide them your e-mail address. Both the HOA and Management would like suggestions from you on how they can better notify residents when maintenance requires the water to be turned off. This is especially important for residents who have no e-mail capabilities. Please contact any board member with your ideas.

DID YOU KNOW The Home Owners Association board meets monthly with the local park manager, Den-nis, and the board discusses maintenance, improvements and other issues that concern the homeowners. If you have an issue, the procedure to get it corrected is to put it in writing and present it to the office, ask for a receipt. If the issue is not resolved in a reasonable time, you may complete a request to the board. Each hall has a box with yellow sheets attached. You may deposit the form in that box and the board will address the issue. Board members volunteer their time to go to presentations to find talent for the Parade of Stars. They spend many hours reviewing acts to present to our community.

Thank You I wish to thank all of you who sent cards and support for my wife Edith during her struggle to recuperate from her back surgeries and your support of me since her death on Feb. 24. This is truly a loving community.

Why is it that the people who win EVERY week at our Coffee Hour raffles: - cold cash; hot lottery tickets; special pink ticket treats; sometimes, even delish donuts - are those who EVER  complain: “I never win anything!”   However, we take it all in stride, and continue to wish those special so-and-so’s even more luck for the next week - with perhaps a little personal prayer that in time we might join their elite group. Who knows - when you stop by for our Coffee at 9:30 a.m. (allowing for a little sleep-in), you might become one of those “gifted” guys.... After our fun February experience at Apollo Beach -  counting manatees, and by the time you read this, we will have switched, in March, from watching those feeding “fish” to the Meals on Wheels Plus operation - feeding the needy.  We will  have explored their Renaissance Center and Food Bank and learned about the extensive and really important services offered by this organization.  The trip will end  with our own “feeding” luncheon at their Bistro restaurant and will have provided a new understanding of the extent and valued work of this group. This month we will finish the season’s outside travels with a much anticipated trip to an almost historical and well-loved  spot - The Sunken Gardens in St. Petersburg. The Colony Cove bus, a much appreciated and relatively new service offered by Cove management, will get us to this point of interest for what we are sure will be a beautiful as well as an ed-ucational  and enjoyable experience. The scheduled grand food and fitting finale is within walking distance just across the road at Panera’s Bread restaurant. Celebrate! Stay tuned for next season’s travel adventures while enjoying our Coffees weekly throughout the summer months. It is that time of year for our “Happy Easter! Happy Spring!” greetings and best wishes for the safety and sure return of our travelers, as well as for  the Lakes loud and meaningful:

“Cheers throughout the Year to all!” Full facts:  Wally Koch, Chairman   941 981 3181

The Lakes Club Calendar of Events The Lakes Club Activities Committee has had a most successful year and a half planning and scheduling monthly events and trips to nearby venues and attractions in Florida, fun outings that are either free or of minimal cost. Our Calendar of Events is always open to all Colony Cove residents, and our theme continues to be “Exploring the Florida Around Us”. We use the Colony Cove bus for most of our events and carpool if necessary. Our last event for this Spring is in April when we will visit the Sunken Gardens in St. Petersburg. Our schedule will begin again in October, so keep watching the Breeze for details and register early. In addition, monthly lunches are planned for Lakes Club members (membership $5.00 a year. What a deal!) to various restaurants in the area, generally on the fourth Saturday of the month after the Lakes Club Coffee Hour. Listed below is our April 2015 trip. Stay tuned next month for our Fall schedule of events which will begin in October. Wednesday, April 15, 2015- Tour of Sunken Gardens, St. Petersburg. Transport via Colony Cove bus. When selling your home “For Sale By Owner”-

A Few Things You Need To Know:You need to request a “Rent Disclosure” from the Main Office. You need to provide the Buyer of your home with your copy of the “Prospectus Agreement”. (**Do not give your copy of the “Prospectus”, until the Buyer has been APPROVED.) You can obtain a copy of an application from the Office, so you have it handy for a potential buyer.

**Important Reminder: All buyers have to be age-qualified, pass a background-check, and credit check. All other occupants who will be residing in the home, must be age qualified, pass a background check and be approved by the Office.

**Even if the Buyer already owns a home in Colony Cove, they have to call the Office and talk to Linda Ziemba about approval for the new home.

4. The Office will schedule an inspection of the outside of your home & lot. If anything is not “in-compliance” according to the “Prospectus” Rules & Regula-tions, these issues will have to be corrected to bring the home into “compliance” status, before the closing will be approved.

2014 AARP FREE TAX PREPARATION Once again AARP and Internal Revenue Service have joined together to offer free tax preparation and electronic filing of your Federal Income Tax Return for tax year 2014. We will be at the Rocky Bluff Public Library again this year (2015). Our hours will be from 12 Noon until 4:30 PM on the following dates: February 4, 6, 10, 12, 17, 20, 24, 26 March 3, 5, 10, 11, 25, 27, 31 April 2, 7, 9, 14 Please arrive well before closing, as we often stop taking new clients well before closing as we must be out of the library (finished with our tax preparation) by 5PM. Other times and dates are available at the other AARP Tax Aide programs at Palmetto Library, Free-dom Village, Braden River Library, Faith United Methodist Church and Bayshore Gardens Community Center. YOU MUST BRING all necessary paper work. Positive identification is required of every taxpayer for whom we prepare a return.

This must be a photo ID. (Both spouses if filing a joint return). It is also important that you bring your Social Security Notice (Form SSA) showing the amount of benefits for 2014 year. Social security cards are required for all dependents. The information on this card is checked against the master file at Social Security Ad-ministration and any incorrect information will cause the return to be rejected by IRS, thereby slowing down a refund until the error is corrected.

A copy of your 2013 Federal Tax Return.Bring any and all information, document or records needed to determine income, ex-penses and credits which may be applicable to your return. Bring supporting documents for all income, deductions and credits needed to properly complete your return. This would include Forms W-2, 1099’s for interest, dividends, pensions, stock sales (which must include cost basis information), etc.

4) Information for documentation of Minimum Essential Coverage (MEC) required by the Affordable Care Act (ACA) also called Obama Care. For most of our clients, this will be on your Social Security statement(s). But if you, your spouse or any dependents are covered under other health insurance plans, you will need to bring that documentation. (If covered under the Health Insurance/Marketplace Exchange bring the Form 1095-A provided by the insurer. This form should arrive no later than January 3 ) Our program does prepare a limited Schedule C. We do not prepare complicated lengthy stock sales of capital assets (Schedule D), Schedule E (rental property, royalties, partnership and trusts) and other more technical issues. A listing of all items that are ‘out of scope’ for our service is posted at each site preparing AARP returns. For those of you who prepare your own returns, we are available to you to answer any questions you might have that fall within the scope of our program. We, as Tax Aide Volunteers, are looking forward to providing this service to Colony Cove residents and others in our community once again.

MeMorial Day 2015 Memorial Day observance will be held on May 25, 2015 at Harmony Hall. This celebration is being sponsored by Colony Cove Management and EquityLife Style Properties. Although we are its sponsor the event is being run by the Home Owners Association Board with help from members of the Friendly Social Club. An event

of this magnitude takes a lot of planning and we thank the Home Owners Association for their help making it happen. The festivities will begin with a parade, sponsored by the 301 Cruisers Golf Cart Club, starting at Manatee Hall at 10:30 AM and ending at Harmony Hall. At 12:00 a short presentation by Russ Uboldi will be held, and following this presentation food will be served. The menu this year is 6” turkey & ham subs from Publix, potato chips and baked beans, soft drinks and lemon ice for desert. During your lunch there will be entertainment for your listening and dancing pleasure by Mr. Ron Stephen.

South Service and Hobby Club The reorganized South Service and Hobby Club presents the following Mission Statement to simply state our purpose: We are a volunteer group of people gather-ing to promote friendship, to share ideas and to help those in need. We have projects that will benefit others such as making Ted E Bears for the Police and Fire Departments and favors for Holiday cele-brations for the Nursing Home. We make and sell Cancer Bracelets; the proceeds go to the

residents of Colony Cove who are struggling with Cancer. We make pree-mie hats, scarves and hats for the troops, lap robes, etc. We make walker bags and adult bibs to distribute. We also learn new crafts if there is an interest. Many great ideas are presented by our members. These activities and many more keep us busy on Monday mornings at Friendship Hall. This month, we are featuring our nursing home favor and decoration project. As you can see in the photos, work is well underway to create adorable Easter wreaths to brighten the resident’s rooms. The wreaths were created by braiding pastel yarns together and adding tiny eggs. They are really cute. Next we will be working on a welcome summer project and then begin on Halloween favors before our snowbird members fly North. That way we don’t have to scramble to get them ready in the Fall when they return. If you would like to give us a hand with this, or any of our other projects, please join us. We meet every Monday at 9 AM at Friendship Hall. Stop by and give us a try. If you are leaving soon for the summer in cooler climates, please remember us when you return to the Cove next fall – we will be waiting for you!

Happy Notes It doesn’t seem possible but another season is about over and our snowbirds will be heading North. Our annual spring concert, which is also the last concert of the current season, will be on April12, 2015, at Manatee Hall starting at 2:30P.M. NOTE: We will be at Manatee Hall and not Harmony Hall. Mark your calendars now. Many of the songs (maybe all) you will know as they are mostly from the ‘30’s, so sing along with us and have a fun and enjoyable Sunday afternoon. Hope to see you all there. The concert is free; however, we will accept and appreciate a free will cash donation. On Monday, April 13th, the choir will conclude the season with our annual luncheon at the Anna Maria Oyster Bar in Ellenton starting at 11:15 A.M. Some of us will still be busy putting the music away, Joan will be scheduling engagements for next season at various nursing/assisted living homes and Dr. Harvey will be selecting music for the next session. Practice will probably begin late October, definite date not known at this time. Watch the Breeze and bulletin boards. We practice every Monday at Friendship Hall from 1:30 P.M. to 3:00P.M. New voices are always wel-come, so if you are interested come to Friendship Hall and we will have a packet of music ready for you. A BIG THANK YOU from Shirley to Joan and Lauran for assembling and distributing the music packets while she was incapacitated. It is a big job and was really appreciated. All for now - see you in the Fall. Dr. Harvey and the Happy Notes want to wish everyone a happy, healthy and enjoyable summer with family and friends.

“Rhythmettes” Line Dancing Another season drawing to a close and our Northern friends will be leaving. We wish them a safe trip, a happy, healthy and enjoyable summer

with family and friends and a safe return to Colony Cove. Many Clubs and activities discontinue for the summer; however, line dancing continues year round. Attendance will fluctuate but we still get together every Tuesday evening, dance, have fun and get exercise. If you are a beginner or want to learn to line dance, arrive a little before starting time and Shirley or one of the girls will be glad to help you with the basic steps. Also, don’t get discouraged as you can’t learn all in one night but you will be surprised at how fast you will pick up the steps. We all make mistakes- so don’t let that bother you, just laugh and continue on. Shirley is back dancing full steam ahead after having the procedures on her legs. Thanks to all who got up front of the class and led dances while Shirley just cued. It was fun. At times we are replaced by an event at Harmony Hall and it does not get in the Breeze or a date or time of an event will change, we move over to Manatee Hall, so come on over to the Southside. All for now. SO - if you are looking for something to do this summer - come join us on Tuesday evening at Harmony Hall, 6:45P.M. We have lots of fun and line dancing isgood exercise. All dances are cued so no need to memorize and classes are FREE - no chargeor donation.

HAPPY EASTER

Gabby GirlsBy Ruth Heck

The Gabby Girls will meet around 10:45 a.m. on April 2nd in Ellenton Hall and after exchanging the news of the month will decide just where we will go for lunch.  We pool cars and off we go.  So if you would like to join, us come on down.  See you on April 2nd.

Aah, Spring Time in Florida! April wants more potted flowers, more screen porches open, a few spring-training baseball games, even a few fishing trips as the Manatee River fills once again. Sadly, we will be saying good-bye to our Snowbird neighbors soon, and the park will be oddly quiet. The winter season for citrus has been absolutely incredible. You just can’t beat a Mimosa with fresh orange juice. And, fresh lemon adds the perfect zing to salad dressings and dishes. The February and March Board meetings were teaming with ideas for increasing mem-bership. President Gray and Secretary Magrin are taking the new residents lists from the Breeze and welcoming neighbors door-to-door. If you are a new resident, and we haven’t gotten to you as of yet, please come to South-West Club’s Saturday coffee hour, and we’ll fix you right up! Now, all Board members are available for membership registration. Our coffee hour and monthly functions also host a membership table for your convenience. The South-West Club will continue to meet every 1st Tuesday of the month through the off-season hoping for a quorum, 9:30 a.m. at the Bayshore House by our park’s community garden. The March Appreciation Dinner was a whopping success! Marion MacClennan and committee really outdid themselves...mmmmm, baked ziti! The entertainer, a comedian/magician, reminded us all how good it feels to be surprised and to laugh like kids. It just

South-West Clubgoes to show ya! When we all put our heads and hands together, the South-West Club function attendance grows and grows like Spring flowers! Because Daylight Savings Time and Florida tides wait for neither man nor woman, April’s event got away from us, and we will commence quickly with our annual Mothers’ Day and Fathers’ Day Breakfasts, both Saturday mornings, May 9 and June 20. Roy Bass is chairman (941) 729-1205, and plans are in the making, most likely out again to Cracker Barrel. President Gray and his giant van will be available for carpooling along with any other volunteers. As always, members, residents, and guests welcome. Keep your eyes peeled at the laundries, halls, billiard rooms, gyms, and the Riverside Pavilion for event flyers. Remember to throw on those sandals, bring a mug, and a $1.00 for donuts and meet everyone every Saturday at Manatee Hall for Coffee Hour. Friendship at 8:30 a.m., followed by coffee and games at 9 a.m. Membership meetings are held every 3rd Saturday after coffee hour from October through April. You do not have to live on the south side to attend. New members encouraged to come!

Colony Cove Art ClubBy Carol Stephan

Hello once again from the Art Club. That time again for an article for the Breeze! As you all probably know, the Art Club held its annual show and sale on Sunday, March 1. The Woodworkers Club and the Photo Club joined us as in previous years. It was a very success-ful day and those attending had a really good time. Refreshments were served and many raffle prizes were won, so it was a very nice way to get together with our community. Mara Trumbo did a painting demonstration during the show, and Aggie Derocher did several caricatures, which we all enjoyed. Thanks to all who attended! For those of you who are new to the park, the Art Club meets (during the season) every Wednesday at 1:00 at Bayshore House for watercolor painting, or any media you choose. Everyone is welcome to join us and try painting. We have a great time and we produce some pretty great artwork! Each year in February or March we have our annual art and photography show and sale at Harmony Hall where we exhibit our paintings and hopefully sell a few things. Our membership for the full year is only $10. Please come and join us any time. We meet the first Tuesday of the month for our business meeting. Hopefully all our members will start attending the meetings so that they know what’s going on! Our present officers are Mary Kidder, President; Fran Kain, Vice President; Carol Stephan, Secretary; and Lucy Boucher, Treasurer. Cary Letsche has volunteered to be “workshop chairman” this season, and Pamela Turner is membership chairman. We are always hoping for new members and will welcome you to the club. Please join us there if you love to paint or even if you have never painted before and would love to try it! We are very informal and beginners are always welcome. We have art supplies available if someone wants to try it without investing money in all the “stuff” just to get going. We all work at our own level on any subject of our choice, and it’s worth the extra effort to pack up your “art stuff” and get out of the house to paint while we have fun and socialize! All of our members are very willing to help each other as some are more experienced than others. We also have an extensive library of art books that our members can borrow (No charge for that!). Hope to see you at the Art Club. For more information, please call Carol Stephan at 729-2134; or Mary Kidder at 729-543. Hopefully all of you Art Club members will keep busy, either painting or taking photo-graphs with the hopes of new creations! See you all soon…………..Paint on!

It Was a Grand Birthday Party Celebration! The West Side block party was a fun event to welcome new neighbors and visit with our old neighbors and friends. The buffet was indeed a delicious meal with all the different dishes to fill in for the great chicken dinner catered by our local Kentucky Fried Chicken Restaurant. We also extend a special thank you to Barb Amador and Frank Szachta for the beautiful flowers and door prizes. We celebrated everyone's Birthday with gifts/prizes for some lucky winners. We look forward to our next year party on February 27, 2016, with a new chairperson, Kathleen Murphy. We thank everyone for all the help to make our celebration a success.

301 CRUISER NEWS On Sunday March 15, 2015, the 301 Cruisers had a pizza party and a St. Patrick’s Day parade. Carts were decorated in green and everyone became Irish for the day. We enjoyed some trivia questions to test our memory and knowledge until the pizza’s came. The pizzas were courtesy of Ravens Pizza. Everyone received 2 slice of pizza and a soft drink for $5.00. Ravens donated the money back to the club and the pizzas were a donation by them. How great was that, thank you very much Jeri and Jim Zimmer, you are the best. After dinner and enjoying each other’s company, the club paraded around the community showing off our decorated carts. A good time was enjoyed by all.

COME JOINTHE FUN!!!

What a great month the boat club has had. On February 7, 2015, we had 30 members go to the Bradenton Riverwalk Regatta races. We tied together 5 boats, and all had a wonderful time sharing drinks and snacks. The view from water level was terrific. At our regular meeting in January, we had guest speaker Ashley Workman from ELS. She spoke about new rules for the marina, and ELS 's plans for improvements at the marina. February also included an upriver Flotilla to Fort Hamer, afterwards a picnic at the pavilion with live entertainment by Mike and Georgia. Thank you to Carolyn Bridenstine and Teresa McInnis for chairing the event. Thanks to Marianne DeMars for obtaining the entertainment. At the February 16 meeting we had a guest speaker from the Sheriff's office Marine unit. Deputy Dan Hearn speak about boat safety. On March 5, we took the Colony Cove bus to Tarpon Springs for a wonderful day of sightseeing and eating excellent Greek food. Thanks Marianne for all your hard work on making this day possible. Our March 16 meeting we had our annual St. Patrick's day celebration of corned beef and cabbage before the meeting. A big thank you to Jack Malone for cooking us this fine Irish dinner. On March 21, we had our spectacular annual Seafood boil dinner at Anna Maria Is-land. Thank you to the entertainment committee for all the hard work in putting on the event. April's meeting is on Monday the 20th at 7 p.m. at Friendship Hall. We are having a wine and cheese tasting party at 6 p.m. before the meeting. Other projects for April will be discussed at this meeting. To all who wish to become a member of our boat club, you do NOT have to own a boat to join. Also kayakers are part of the club. We are making plans for more kayak flotillas during this year.

Hey woodworkers - remember our picnic is the 8th of this month. If you have not bought your tickets please see any of the club officers.    Reminders - Our PLANER IS FOR NEW WOOD ONLY.  Not plywood or used wood that could have nails in it.  It takes hours to recover from your neglect.  To keep your sand paper from tearing or burning on the drum sander, limit your adjustments to a half turn.   The following is the final installment in our basic lathe handout.Use the Bevel:  One  key  to  safe  wood  turning  is  to  remember  to  always  keep  the  bevel  be-hind  the  sharpened  edge  of  the  tool  resting  on  the  wood.  Following  this  rule will  help  keep  the  tool  from  taking too much  off  at  one  time, or  worse,  grab-bing the wood and perhaps ripping the tool out of the wood turner's hands. When beginning to cut with a tool such as a gouge, while keeping the tool on the tool rest, lay the back edge of the tool onto the spinning wood so that the point of con-tact  is  on  or  behind  the  bevel,  but  that  the  tool's cutting  edge  is  not  yet  cutting. Once  contact  is  safely  made,  use  your  right  hand  to  slide  the  tool  backwards  (to-ward the body, away from the lathe) until the cutting edge begins to engage the wood. Throughout the entire cutting process, the bevel should remain in contact with the wood.Always Cut With the Grain: When  wood  turning,  one  should  always  work  "with  the  grain." Turners  often  re-fer to this as cutting downhill. For instance, when hollowing out a cove, cut from the edg-es  toward  the  center.  Cutting  from  the  center  out  toward  the  edge  of  the  cove would  be  considered as cutting uphill, which is far harder to control and could  eas-ily cause the tool  to grab (since  it  is very difficult  to cut uphill and still keep the bev-el of the tool on the wood).Cutters Lead and Scrapers Trail:  Wh e n wo r k i n g w i t h g o u g e s, c h i s e l s , p a r t i n g to o l s a n d o t h e r c u t-ters, the rear hand (the one on the handle) should always be lower than the fore hand (on the tool rest). This will keep the tool a leading position, where the wood will be turning into the cutting edge of the tool.   However, a scraper should be used in exactly the opposite manner. A scraper doesn't cut like a chisel, but works more like a butter knife. As such, the rear hand should be high-er  than  the  fore  hand,  which  will allow  the  cutting  edge of  the  scraper  to  be  be-neath the tool rest, and be in a trailing position to scrape the wood.Practice Makes Perfect: As with any skill, it takes a lot of practice to become a good wood turner. An experi-enced wood turner makes it look easy, a point that will be driven home the first time the nov-ice begins to turn.

Easter GreetingsThis month the quilt club members have been busy finishing up quilts that they had started last summer which I have shown in this article. The Star was completed by Evelyn which was a “quilt as you go” it is an amazing quilt the colors are beautiful the other quilt is being made by Debbie, Evelyn’s daughter she is putting together a memory quilt for a family, the material in this quilt is over 100 years old. Debbie also just finished 19 pillows for a family that had many articles of clothing of a family member that they wanted to remember them by. This past week we had a pizza party for Diane who will be leaving us to move back home for good. We will miss her as she was such an asset to our group. The pizza was catered by Raven Pizza and they did a fantastic job for us . We also donated St. Patricks Day decorations and also Easter Baskets to the Tidewell Hospice in Ellenton for their patients food trays and their rooms. They were hand crafted by the quilting club and also the Hobby Club. Once again the materals that were used were donated . The Quilt Club will be going on another road trip in a few weeks to thanks to Kay for organizing and putting this trip together for us. If you would like to learn how to quilt now is the time for you to stop by and learn from all of our teachers in the group. If you are not joining because you do not have a sewing machine you should know that we have a few loaners on hand so you can certainly join our group. We have four new members this month and we are so happy to have them join us. Would like to also remind everyone that we are always looking for donations of scrap material or any type of sewing articles, we love to take donations. It’s amazing what this group can create with scrap material. This past month we received donation of two quilting frames from Rita who just recently moved into Colony Cove what a fantastic donation to our group. If you have a donation please drop them off at 315 Alkmaar Street or call and I will pick it up (722-5453). We would appreciate it if you did not leave any materials or sewing notions at Barbara Clancy’s carport. Welcome Spring! It is great to have warm temperatures and beautiful sunshine. It’s just another Florida April! Lucky us. Our recent Craft Show had a drawing for some lovely prizes. The winners are as follows: Dee Conner—Cross-stitch, Lynn Di Gangi—crystal necklace, Bev Evans—slate painting, Phyliss Goodwin—baby blanket, Janet Gregorian—green necklace, Claudia Hendricks—necklace, Sue Raymond—handbag, Jane Schram—bracelet and candle, table runner, homemade jam, Flo Skelly—baby blanket, and Jeri Zimmer—shell lamp. Congratulations! Some of the Club members had on display at the craft show different samples of their completed projects. They were given recognition for their efforts by a group of judges who had the difficult job of selecting a “First” and “Second” place. First place went to Jean Bruton’s needlepoint, and second went to Diana Horgan’s quilt. Really beautiful, ladies!! We would also like to congratulate Barb Sirois for her FIRST place award and two SECOND place awards at the Florida State Fair. She just keeps creating more and more beautiful items every year. We are proud of you, Barb!

The annual Spring Luncheon took place on March 10th at Harmony Hall. We not only had a delicious lunch, (which was chaired by Jan Carr and Pam Erhardt) but some special entertainment by a duo,

named Georgia and Mike.com, who played guitars and sang. They were outstanding! The members danced and had a terrific time! Thank you to Jan, Pam and the committees who worked to make this a special event.

One of the recent classes we did was how to assem-ble a “Necktie Scarf” Several chose to give it a try and were pleasantly surprised at what they made. We also had a class on a” Flower pot puppy”which is an outdoor decoration. Jan Carr and Pam Erhardt were the demonstrators. It certainly turned out cute and added a unique touch to your outdoor landscape. We welcomed three new members. They are Eleanor Vaughn, Barb Hart, and Mara Trumbo. We’re so glad that you can join us. And, are they ever good dancers!

I would like to thank the outgoing officers from the 2014-15 term. Your service to the club has been truly appreciated. President—Margaret Dotse, 1st VP—Laurie Snelson, 2nd VP—Jan Carr, Secretary—Linda Henson, Assistant Secretary, Margy Kuehling, Trea-surer—Norma Reed, Assistant Treasurer—De Griffin. Our club has many very talented members. As new members are added there are more and more ideas and skills to share. Some of the skills are very difficult and some are easier. Whatever is your interest it is nice to share the ideas and fun with others. Here are a few examples of our members talents— Barb Sirois and her award-winning tablerunner and handbags Linda DeSanto who creates floral arrangements and decorator pieces Frances Neuman’s beautiful quilt and matching stuffed bear Easter is April 5th this year. Hope you and your family have a special day.

Pour batter over berries. (The batter won’t cover berries completely.) Bake about 20 minutes or until topping is golden. Serve warm. Makes 6 servings.

Q & A How do I figure out if a cookie is going to come out chewy or crunchy? Just take a bite! Actually, all cookie recipes provide clues to the final result. It’s all in the butter, shortening and sugar ratios. All-butter recipes tend to produce a thing and crispy cookie. All-shortening recipes yield a soft, plumpish cookie. Brown sugar also helps produce a soft cookie. If you want a crisp cookie on the outside and a chewy-soft cookie on the inside, go for a mix of butter and shorten-ing-and a combo of brown and white sugar. Want a super-soft cake cookie? Skip the butter and use all shortening and all brown sugar. The science behind it has to do with the fact that butter melts faster than shortening, so-in a hot oven-buttery cookies spread more quickly so they are thinner and crisper than shortening-based cookies.

Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 3-4 minutes or until thickened. Drain sweet potatoes; return to pan. Pour glaze over pota-toes and stir gently to coat.

to grow in their native habitat without human interference. He explained the these or-chid species that grow so lovingly in their native environment are easily obtainable from orchid vendors and growers throughout the United States and many of them have now been hybridized to form the beautiful and fragrant flowers we so enjoy to have in our possession. Jim went over some other conservation measures that were being applied in Southeast Asia and discussed the insect damage caused by Thrips. Thrips are a small slender insect with fringed wings (Order Thysanoptera) that feed on plants and animals by puncturing them and sucking up the contents. They can be controlled by using a variety of insecticides such as insecticidal soaps. Jim also brought some interesting and beautiful orchid plants with him for sale and members readily bought many of them to add to their growing collections.

Jim Roberts is seen here giving some orchid advice to Jack Gouldner and BettyBrumm and sharing some orchid information with De Griffin. The bloom table this month was rather small with only three plants entered. LibbyRupert took the first prize blue ribbon with her Oncidium Rulchellum Tolumnia and Tom Griffin took 2nd and 3rd place with his Ric. Haw Yaun Gold and Caulaelia Mizoguchi.

The next meeting of the Colony Cove Orchid Club will be on April 6, 2015 in Manatee Hall at 1:00PM. This will be our last meeting of the current cycle and will include a silent auction. Program Director Milner has promised to have some beautiful orchid plants for sale, so bring some cash and be prepared to start the bidding process.

The Colony Cove Orchid Club held its March meeting in Manatee Hall on March 2,2015. Program Director Bob Milner called the meeting to order at 1:00 PM and had a short business meeting with approximately 30 members in attendance. Bob then quickly introduced our guest speaker for the afternoon, Jim Roberts of Florida Suncoast Orchids.

Jim gave a solid and educational presentation on Vandacious orchids or those orchids that make up the Vanda Alliance. During the 90 minute presentation Jim described the areas of South East Asia where most of these orchids grow and gave us an interesting re-count of his recent trip to Thailand in search of Vanda orchids in the wild. He also stressed the fact that most of these plants are now protected in the wild and should be allowed

“29” Ers Cribbage Results Well this month the basement was dominated by 2 play-ers: Stu Wagner and Brian Langley. Brian was also “DOUBLE SKUNKED” on the 13th by Vic to everyones joy. At least I can say that it is a rarity and that not many others have achieved it. Ron actually came back and joined us on 27th as he is not as busy now and came in first. Hope he continues to come. Player numbers were good but would still like to get it at around 20 players. If there are any new residents out there that may be interested in playing cribbage do come along on Friday afternoons at 12:45PM for a 1PM start at Harmony Hall. Colony Cove Loan Closet561 Colony Point Drive

The Colony Cove Loan Closet is open on Monday and Thursday from 10:00am until noon. We will continue through the month of April. We will also open for emergencies or other serious circumstances. For emergencies, the numbers are: First - Charles Candrilli at 723-0117 Secondly- Ed Gaylord at 729-6312 Lorraine Tracy at 721-6519 There are a variety of non-medical items for use by the residents of Colony Cove. We invite you to drop by and check out the available items for yourself. Most of the items that we have are based around short term visits by your kids and grand kids, but there are some other items that you may require on a short term basis. These include a wheelbarrow and a refrigerator cart. You will need to leave a deposit (a check is preferable) which will be refunded to you when the items are returned. We request that you return the items as soon as you are able so that others may take advantage of the service. There is a small maintenance fee for the use of the items. We also accept donations when you return the borrowed items. This is used to maintain and update our inventory. Surplus money that we collect is periodically donated to the HOA legal fund, which benefits the entire Colony Cove community. I, Candy, wish to thank the volunteers that work in the loan closet. All of you do a great job. We all respect the fact that you are volunteers and are there to help you in any way you are able. This incredible service would not be there if it were not for your efforts. I would especially like to thank Carol Roselli for doing the scheduling of the volunteers again this year.
