For three years running, the WHRC has been acclaimed as the worlds #1-ranked independent climate change think tank by the International Center for Cli- mate Governance. In October 2014, the Woods Hole Research Center named Dr. Philip B. Duffy as its President and Executive Director. The bringing together of this internationally respected institution and an equally renown leader in climate science and public policy has been notewor- thy at many levels - from locally with Cape Cod interests to policy making and population concerns around the world. Dr. Duffys exper tise has been in the areas of domestic climate policy, international climate change negotia- tions, climate change adaptation, extreme weather risk, and climate model- ing. He has a PhD in Applied Physics from Stanford (1986) and an AB in Astron- omy and Astrophysics (magna cum laude) from Harvard University (1979). He has devoted his career to the use of science in addressing climate change. Prior to joining WHRC, Dr. Phil Duffy served in the White House National Science and Technology Council as the Senior Advisor to the US Global Change Research Program, and as a Senior Policy Analyst in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. In these roles, he was in- volved in international climate negotiations, in domestic and international climate policy, and in coordination of US global change research. In his presentation, Dr. Duffy outlined the various roles of the WHRC as an observer organization, the background and impact of the Paris Climate Agreement (195 countries), the leadership responsibilities of the U. S. and China, projections and politics of decreasing greenhouse omissions (particularly CO 2 ), and the interplay between developing countries and rich countries around the differences within their respective economic growth aspirations.
