to Sunday morning at Eaton Church of the Brethren. If you’re visiting us for the first time, we will not have

you stand up or ask you to give money. We want you to feel comfortable and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere.

Please pick up a visitor’s packet at the Info Center with information about the church, our ministries, facilities, and opportunities to get connected. When you’re ready, we have a Connection Card at the Info center in the Gathering Area that we’d like you to fill out and leave at the Info Center. You can also find out more on our website, www.eatoncob.org.

Prayer is an essential part in the life of a believer and the church. Psalms 105:4 says "Look to the Lord and his strength, seek his face always." Each Sunday morning at 10:15 the Elders will be gathering by the fireplace for a time of prayer. They invite you to join them as they ask the Lord to move in hearts and to pour out his Spirit upon the church and its ministries.

The Heart of the Matter The Utter Relief of Holiness (Lent 2015)

Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again. God will make this happen, for he who calls you is faithful.

—1 Thessalonians 5:3-4 (NLT)

The foremost theme for this Lenten season is holiness—the holiness of God and the holiness he expects of us. God wants us to be holy in every way, and he is intent, as he works in us through the power of his Spirit, on keeping us blameless until the day when Jesus Christ returns. But holiness is something few of us really understand, much less want. And even if we were to want it, holiness seems out of reach, for we know ourselves all too well. Through the preaching series and the accompanying devotional, we will recapture what the Bible says about holiness and catch the vision of what we ourselves could be like as a people truly transformed from the inside out—beautiful, radiant, resplendent.

Ways you can participate:

Join us for worship each Sunday morning leading up to Easter.

Pick up the FREE devotional from the Info Center. If you prefer a digital version, use download code LENTDEVO at our website, www.eatoncob.org

Our desire at Eaton Church of the

Brethren is to enable every person to

experience the living Christ in transforming ways. In continuing the mission Jesus placed

before His followers when He commanded them, and us, to go and make disciples, we are

dedicated to four intrinsic values. These ongoing values of Experience, Connect, Grow, and

Impact are interwoven and cannot be taken singly but as a four-fold approach to our call as a

local expression of Christ's worldwide church.

Throughout Scripture, God made His presence known

to individuals like Abraham, Jacob, Moses, and Isaiah,

among many others, as well as to His people, the

Hebrews, and to the Early Church. The presence of God

powerfully transformed them then, and us still today.

We place great emphasis on worship and prayer, sacraments like communion and baptism, and

spiritual disciplines to be practiced individually and collectively, while fully acknowledging that

our very access to God was secured in Jesus' sacrifice at the cross on our behalf.

Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time

of need. –Hebrews 4:16

Experience the reality of God

through Jesus

In contrast to our individualistic society, we

are intentional about connecting with others,

because life with God was never intended to

be solitary. We need one another in order to

be shaped into the image of Christ,

so we build one

another up with

the gifts God has

given each of us.

We encourage

one another, we

exhort one another, we pray for one another,

we help to meet the needs of one another.

Members are not anonymous but are known,

and know and connect with others. We

encourage every member to do life together

in smaller groups.

Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of

Christ. –Galatians 6:2

Just as parents want their children to grow

and mature, so our Father wants us to grow.

He has provided His

Word, the inspired

Scriptures of the

Old and New

Testaments, as

nourishment for all

believers, whether

newly born or experienced in years. The Bible

reveals God Himself and acts as a mirror,

showing us for who we really are, as well as

shaping our view of the world around us. We

strive to provide various means of

understanding Scripture and how we relate to

God, through Sunday morning preaching and

age-specific and topical classes and studies.

Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that

by it you may grow up into salvation. –1 Peter 2:2

Connect with others in a community

of faith

The church is intended to be a beacon of light in a world

shrouded in darkness. Where there is hopelessness, we share the

hope of Christ. Where there is sin, we share the message of

reconciliation through Christ. Where there is suffering and

injustice, we carry the burden of God, who has always

championed the cause of the marginalized, and we act on His

behalf. We are identified as followers of Jesus by our love for one another, and we are marked

by our mission of reaching others with Christ's love.

… in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the

message of reconciliation. –2 Corinthians 5:18-19 (ESV)

Grow in the

knowledge of God and His Word

Impact the world by

demonstrating the love of Christ
