Hypothesis

We decided to investigate Hampton Court Palace because we

thought it was a very interesting and the most famoushistorical palace to visit in London We have looked forinformation to know a bit more on the palace the history thecollections the mazehellip

Our project tries to prove if it was worth a visit when we arein a London in June and wersquore to be prepared well to London

Palace is a former English royal palace in the East Molesey SurreyEngland[1] The palace is located 117 miles (188 km) south west of Charing Cross and upstream of Central London on the River ThamesIt is open to the public as a major tourist attraction The palacesHome Park is the site of the annual Hampton Court Palace Festival and Hampton Court Palace Flower Show Along with St Jamess Palace it is one of only two surviving palaces out of the many ownedby Henry VIII It is estimated that over 55 million people have visitedHampton Court Palace and it is reserved as a well known landmark of South-East England

William Talman (later Nicholas Hawksmoor fulfilled this role) andthese housed new state apartments and private rooms one set forthe King and one for the Queen Many famous artists werecommissioned to decorate the rooms including Grinling GibbonsAntonio Verrio Jean Tijou and Sir James Thornhill with furnishings

designed by Daniel Marot The Kings Apartments face south over thePrivy Garden the Queens east over the Fountain Garden After theQueen died William lost interest in the renovations but it was inHampton Court Park in 1702 that he fell from his horse later dyingfrom his injuries at Kensington Palace In later reigns the state roomswere neglected but under George I six rooms were completed in1717 to the design of John Vanbrugh[2] and under George II and hisqueen Caroline further refurbishment took place with the architectWilliam Kent employed to design new furnishings and decor includingthe Queens Staircase dated 1733[3] and Cumberland Suite dated1737 for the Duke of Cumberland[3] The Queens Private Apartmentsare open to the public and include her bathroom and bedroom

The Kings Guard Chamber contains a large quantity of armsmuskets pistols swords daggers powder horns and pieces of armour

arranged on the walls in decorative patterns bills exist for payment toa John Harris dated 1699 for the arrangement which is believed to bethat which can still be seen today

GhostsQueen Jane Seymour gave birthto the future King Edward VI atHampton Court in 1537 Shedied there twelve days later andher ghost is said to haunt thestaircase in the Palace to thisday Queen Catherine Howard was arrested there in 1542 andis said to have run along theLong Gallery screaming for King

Henry VIII to save her before hisguards caught her and dragged her away A ghost is said to haunt thepalace sometimes screaming in the same hallway Others reportseeing the King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn

On December 19th 2003 a closed-circuit security camera at HamptonCourt had recorded an indistinct image of a mysterious figure in along coat closing the fire doors According to one report a ghostly-looking figure in period dress suddenly appeared on the screen andclosed the doors[5] A female palace visitor wrote in the visitor bookthat she may have seen a ghost in that area during this time too

Were baffled too -- its not a joke we havent manufactured it saidVikki Wood a Hampton Court spokeswoman when asked if the photothe palace released was a Christmas hoax We genuinely dont knowwho it is or what it is[6] Explanations for the phenomena have rangedfrom a psychology researchers suggestions that it could have been amember of the public thinking they were being helpful by shutting thedoors to others suggestion of thermal effects

The interior facade of the MainGatehouse contains a fine earlyexample of a post-Copernican astronomical clock The clock showsthe time of day the phases of themoon the month which quarter of the year were in the date the sunand even the star sign

Hampton court palace ice rink Every year from the first weekend of

December until the 2nd weekend of January there is an Ice Rink inthe forecourt of the palace People can skate for up to an hour at atime and then enjoy traditional hot chocolate at the side

There are several Ice Rinks similar to this one across
