Peer Mentoring to begin soon!
HCSS offers a Peer Mentoring program where the School Adjustment Counselors
along with HCSS Staff select high achieving High School Students to be paired with
Middle School Students in need of extra help. The students are matched based on
needs of the Middle School Students and strengths of the High School Students.
Middle School Mentees are expected to always have work ready to complete with
their Mentors. A positive attitude and willingness to cooperate with their Mentor is
also necessary. If a Middle School Mentee consistently shows a negative,
disrespectful attitude or is unwilling to complete work the High School Mentor will
be reassigned. This program is meant to benefit struggling Middle School Students
and is a wonderful opportunity for academic as well as social emotional growth.
High School Students may count their Mentoring time towards their required
volunteer hours. This is a wonderful college application or resume enhancer. This is
also a rewarding experience for all of the students participating.
Ideally this program will run throughout the whole school year allowing ample time
for the Mentoring pairs to build a strong rapport and accomplish many goals. If a
Middle School student has been productive although no longer needs the support of
the High School Mentor we can reassign the High School Mentors.
We are planning to have this program up and running soon! Looking forward to
another wonderful year of positive and productive relationships in the Peer
Mentoring Program.
Sincerely,
Ms. Temple, High School Adjustment Counselor &
Ms. Niemczyk, Middle School Adjustment Counselor
