Environment Club Newsletter President’s piece This week I have particularly interested in “War on Waste” (ABC Tue 830 or iview) a TV program all about helping the environment. In that show, Molly Steer, a 10 year old girl started a campaign “Straw no More”. A lot of plastic straws get thrown out every day. So, she decided to start getting rid of them. She started with her school, then other schools and even pubs. You can help turtles and other sea animals by using alternate or no straws. Here are some examples: Paper straws, Metal straws, bamboo or wood straws or even-NO straws at all! Sea creatures are dying every day. We can help stop this by not using plastic straws. www.strawnomore.org

Market Garden This week we are chasing old spray bottles to put our citrus cleaning spray in. If you have any empty spray and wipe bottles etc; could you please drop them into the office. If you would like us to refill them with our powerful, chemical-free all-purpose cleaning solution, please leave your name with the bottle and we will have it ready for you at Market Garden on Friday. This will cost you just $1. If you wish to but the spray undiluted it is $4 a litre which will give you two litres when diluted with water. We have a special on lemons which will be just 30c each or 4 for $1. Lettuce, spinach, snow peas, sugar snaps and raspberries will also be available. We were very excited to see that the garlic we planted last term has shooted and look forward to making some garlic bread in the summer. Some things take a long time to grow but are worth the wait.

In the Spotlight: HNPS Staff Profile
This week’s super star is Jane Campbell-Horn, School Administration Officer.
Where did you grow up?
“The Golden Shire” otherwise known as Sutherland Shire in Sydney. A place that when your born into people say you
never leave. But I have, and I love living in Newcastle!
Why did you want to work within the school administration system.
After years of working within the beauty industry I completed a teachers aide course at TAFE and a school
administration course at Bankstown evening college because I had secretly always regrated not going to UNI to become
a teacher. I love the variety of working with teachers and students and like being the lady with the magic ice and band
aides.
Favourite place?
Cronulla beach or Merewether beach in the sunshine.
The person you most look up to and why?
No brainer! My Dad. He is kind and gentle and always ready to listen. He is also awesome at
fixing various things that are broken.
Favourite thing to do?
Walking along the beach with my puppy.
A funny story?
I recently went to a fancy dress birthday party dressed as Olivia Newton-John out of Xanadu,
complete with the white roller skates, flicked hair and flowing white dress. It has been many, many
years since I wore skates so friends were all waiting for me to fall over so they could laugh…..I
managed to stay upright except for one rather awkward fall to which everyone had a great laugh.
Needless to say I was a little sore the next day but I will ride again!!
