NEW SCHOOL LUNCH CATERER Edwards & Blake are delighted to be the caterer of choice at Colman Infant and Junior School commencing April 2020. We pride ourselves in providing fresh, healthy lunches, using locally sourced ingredients.

At E&B we go above and beyond to provide delicious meals which also comply with government food standards. We encourage pupils to enjoy food and increase their knowledge around how our food is created and to respect and sustain the environment in which it is produced.

Medical diets are also catered for, so all children are given the opportunity to enjoy a real lunch-time experience.

E&B want to make school meals fun, engaging and a key part of every child`s education, so we ensure a variety of choices, with fresh and frequently changing menus, providing the best service for all of our students.

We are offering two ‘meet and greet’ sessions on Monday 20th March held at 2.30 -3.00 pm (CIS) and 6.00-6.30 pm (CJS). Both sessions are open to all Colman Federation parents and there will be an opportunity to ask questions and enjoy samples from our menu.

THE GREAT COLMAN BOOK SWAPAt 3.20pm on Thursday 5th March 2020 we will be holding our fabulous book swap, in the hall.

This is how it works:

From now until Wednesday 4th March you will be able to bring in any books in good condition that you no longer want but are suitable for another junior school child. Please give them to your teacher.

They can be stories, annuals or factual books.

In return, for every book that is brought in, you will receive a voucher with your name on. If you bring in 3 books for swapping you will get 3 vouchers.

On book swap day you will be given your vouchers – these can then be swapped for books of your choice in the hall.

You do not need money. DD

SYNAGOGUE VISIT

On Thursday 23rd January Year 4 visited the Synagogue on Earlham Road. They had a great time finding out about Shabbat and how Jews

celebrate Passover. Thank you to Mrs Carpenter and to Poppy for a great visit. LH

Well done everyone - keep running! LH

BOOK CLUBThe weekly book club has enjoyed listening to The

Boy at the Back of the Class by Onjali Q. Rauf. The

story of a strange ‘immigrant kid’ arriving at a

school one day but never talking and never smiling

has been full of adventure, laughs and sadness. The

children coming to the club are hoping we get the

last few chapters finished before the end of term so

we can find out if we (and Ahmet) get the happy

ending we’re all hoping for. There will be a new

story to listen to, every Wednesday lunchtime after

half-term. Everyone welcome. TG

CAROL SERVICESadly, the Christmas carol service had to be cancelled due to the unexpected school closure. I didn't want it to slip by without acknowledging all the hard work that went into it. So, thank you to all the year 6 readers who had been practicing their parts but especially to members of the orchestra and recorder clubs, who attended their groups every week, practicing for a whole term. Well done to you and thank you for your dedication. I am sorry that you did not get a chance to share your performances on this occasion. KD

CASMA

Year 5 pupils are currently learning a series of songs, which some will perform in concert in March. All Y5 parents should have received an email with a link to all the resources and a separate email with the password. Please encourage children to use this to learn the songs by memory. There are a few great classics in there, so maybe you could have a sing-a-long with them!

Charanga

In our weekly music lessons, we often use a scheme of work called Charanga. All children have their own logins for this so that they can access it at home. Please encourage them to have a look and share what they have been learning. If you are unsure of your child’s login, please let me know. KD

WEAR A GREEN HEART TO SUPPORT CLIMATE CHANGE AWARENESSThe CJS School Council voted during their first meeting of the Spring term, to show the love by creating a voice for change by supporting the climate coalition. Show the Love -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkbBJKfbdUY

Our whole school assembly last week focused on ‘Climate Change’. The assemblies informed us how climate changes are affecting our world and why it has never been more important to make our voices heard and create a safer world for the future.

During the last two weeks each pupil made a green heart to wear on Friday 14th February and show the love for everything we want to protect from the climate crisis. RS

- Please contact the school every day your child is absent. We know that this may seem unnecessary, but it is a legal requirement. You can do this via e-mail, phone using the school pupil absence voicemail or by visiting the school office first thing in the morning. If you book any doctor/hospital or dentist appointments during school hours, the school is required to see a letter/appointment card or text as evidence. Optician appointments should NOT be made during the school day and will not be authorised.

- We have a textile collection bank situated at the end of the car park which can accept clothes, shoes and bed linen but not duvets or pillows. All the money raised goes towards new outdoor play equipment.

- There is always lots of lost property in the basket in the school hall or in the lower school cloakroom. Please have a look at the end of any school day for your child’s lost items. Anything not claimed will be placed in our clothes recycling bin at the end of every half term.

- If your child has school dinners please make sure that you pay any outstanding money on time and frequently.
