In continuing the significant strides that HAJ has made since 2008 to reinvigorate the brand and better its service delivery, the Agency has taken on exciting new projects to improve its overall customer experience. Along with the recent launch of a new website with more interactive features, HAJ has ramped up its social media efforts so that the public will have better access to information.

Realising the immense popularity of social media in today’s world and how it has changed the way that persons interact, HAJ has incorporated social media as part of its long-term goals. The Agency plans to keep connected with existing and potential clients and the general public via this innovative medium and have it function as an extension of its customer service. This tool will give HAJ another avenue to disseminate information quickly and for the public to communicate directly with the Agency. HAJ will also be able to give the public up-to-the-minute updates about anything concerning the Agency, its products and services, and receive instant feedback.

HAJ’s new and improved website has already received very positive reviews from the public. It features new tools such as a Mortgage Calculator from our preferred lending partner, Jamaica National Building Society, a comprehensive list of lending institutions that potential customers may explore, and a ‘Quick Search’ tool so that users may search for houses by entering specific criteria that match their housing needs.

These new features function along with new virtual tours of HAJ’s housing developments that are uploaded to the site, and in-house publications that can be viewed page by page on the website. Through social media, HAJ is building and expanding its interactions with current and prospective customers to ensure that we serve our customers wherever and whenever they may need.

For the fifth time, HAJ participated in the annual Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run, which was held on Sunday February 17, 2013. More than 70 fit and ready members of staff joined almost 20,000 participants, who registered to walk, run or wheel in this exciting, challenging event, the largest road race of its kind in the Caribbean. The Run is 5.5 kilometres in length and started at Emancipation Park, winding its way through the streets of New Kingston and culminating in a post-run celebration and awards ceremony at its point of origin.

Started in 1999, the Run was designed as a means of engendering camaraderie among corporate entities and individuals as they pooled their time and resources together to benefit the health and welfare of needy Jamaican children. This year, the target of $16M was achieved to benefit the Bustamante Hospital for Children, Jamaica National Children’s Home and Best Care Lodge Children’s Home.

With friendly challenges extended and training and gym sessions increased, the HAJ team set out to make this their best showing yet. This mission was achieved with top performances from the following staff members:

TOP RUNNERS - FEMALE1. Pauline Samuels – 33:352. Shanique Palmer – 34:41 (1st-time participant)3. Ferona Jemeison Anderson – 35:22

HAJ Continues Drive to Deliver Titles and Keys to New Homeowners

One of the main objectives of HAJ is to assist in the regularisation of squatter settlements across the island, lifting their status as citizens of Jamaica and starting them on a path toward social and financial improvement. Throughout the period October 2012 to March 2013, HAJ continued its thrust to facilitate the delivery of land titles and keys to homeowners in a number of communities

including: Oakglades, Mandela Terrace and Callaloo Mews in St. Andrew; Retirement 1 & 2, Meadowsvale, Pitfour 3, Norwood and Flankers in St. James; Mammee Bay and Shaw Park Heights in St. Ann; Whitehall 1 and Llandilo 5 in Westmoreland and; Hague in Trelawny. Take a look at the highlights from some of these presentation ceremonies.

Where inspiration and innovation become seamless.

Let the possibilities begin.

Courts Jamaica Brings Value Home to Hills of Boscobel

In March 2013, a partnership was forged with Jamaica’s leading furniture and appliance mega-retailer, Courts Jamaica, to provide tasteful, top-quality furnishings for the model unit at the Hills of Boscobel development in St. Mary. Potential buyers into this development will be able to visualise how their home will look when furnished and how to best utilise the space available. Housing Agency of Jamaica’s partnership with the powerhouse brand also extends to social media, where HAJ has recently established a presence, providing yet another avenue for the Agency to actively and consistently connect with its current and potential customers.

Courts is a well-known and highly visible brand in Jamaica and the Caribbean, associated with innovation, quality products, exceptional service and an unmatched commitment to the satisfaction of their customers. It is for these reasons that Courts has enjoyed repeat customers over its more than 50-year existence; so it was only natural for HAJ to pursue this strategic partnership as we take another step toward providing affordable housing solutions for Jamaicans.

As we continue to build Jamaica one community at a time, we invite you to make your house a home with help from Courts, “Bringing Value Home”.

From the Managing Director’s Desk

Like countless people across the globe, the Jamaican people are once again facing trying times. No growth or slow growth at best, devaluation, rising prices, an extended wage freeze, and high crime levels are features of the deep crisis faced by the society. HAJ staff have not remained unaffected by these hurdles and have been trying their best to cope.

The Company, in striving to fulfil its mandate to provide quality, affordable homes accessible to large numbers of Jamaicans, will need to take firm measures to contain its own costs, and rationalize its structures to remain a vibrant player in the competitive housing marketplace. This will undoubtedly involve some staff displacement, but is expected to produce a more efficient and viable Agency in the near future.

While building new housing solutions, we have also begun to put registered land titles in the hands of Jamaicans long resident on PRIDE lands, at steeply discounted prices. This title delivery programme will be intensified in the months ahead, allowing hundreds of families to enjoy security of tenure and improve their lives.

HAJ remains committed to providing much needed shelter solutions for the people of Jamaica.
