HAIRI Brown Bag Meeting Notes January 23, 2015 1. Intros Introductions by attendees (see table of participants below) 2. Next Meeting Previous suggested date was March 13 but that is just before Spring Break New meeting set for April 3rd (Friday at noon) Possible topics: “Biophilia” discussion (psychology and love of nature) or Panel of equine therapy folks; VOTE: Equine Panel is the winner. 3. Website Working hard to get the HAIRI website up be on the look out for email for your bio and permission to list you 4. Research Update on dog study about to roll it out. Still waiting on IRB approval. Update on the equine/dog and autism study Looking at therapies that have been done already and the design of various studies. Would be good for this team to talk to the pediatrics folks. They're looking at it if their (children with ASD) social interaction change when a dog is present. Comparing this with a human vs. dog. Collaborate to include 3 rd comparison with horse. Great opportunity for partnership! “Animality” Are there animal dimensions in human personality that have to do with animal relationships? Data analysis on undergrads...results predicted that interactions with animals are independent of one another. You might be good with animals, but not necessarily with people. 5. Funding Looking for funding for all things HAIRI 6. Presentation/Discussion by Emily Cory on Raven research (photos below) Participants Name Department/Organization Email Jennifer Andrews Pediatrics; working with Gina Hansen (HSSA) on dogs and autism [email protected] Maureen Kelly Pediatrics; also works with kids and autism, Rich Wahl asked them to come [email protected] Kim Kelly Anthropology grad; Psychiatry researcher; HAIRI Coordinator and lead researcher on dog study [email protected] Julie Davidson Psychiatry; helping with the dog study [email protected] Jim King retired member of Pyschology [email protected] Cindy Chavarria Psychology undergrad; HAIRI research assistant [email protected] Sky Sobol Neuroscience undergrad; HAIRI research assistant [email protected]
