CHRISTMAS GIFT TO POINCIANA; NEW FIREHOUSE (Article by John Perez, President of Village 7)

On Christmas Day the residents of Poinciana woke up to find an article in The Ledger announc-ing the start of the long awaited firehouse. Thanks to the efforts of John Perez, Poinciana lead-ers & residents, and government officials village 7 will have a new firehouse. Thank you to all gov-ernment officials that advocated on behalf of the residents of Poinciana. Special thanks go out to Polk County Fire Chief David Cash, Polk County Commissioner Todd Dantzler, and Polk County Manager Jim Freeman. Last but not least, thanks to HACER members for stepping up and helping to make this possible. This will provide the residents of Poinciana with much needed fire protec-tion, improved emergency medical response, hundreds of dollars in insur-ance premiums saving, increase property values and a plus for attracting businesses. To expedite fire protection for Poinciana, starting on December 28, 2015, Chief Cash has announced that initially three firefighters will be housed in an RV at the village 7 community park. To replace the RV a modular unit has been ordered to be placed at a site adjacent to the Lake Marion Middle School. That unit should be in place in March 2016 and the firefighters will be housed there until the completion of the permanent station building. The station is scheduled to be completed in March of 2017. A contract has been approved with Lunz Prebor Fowler ar-chitects to design the permanent station.

The design work has been completed, permitting is in process. Residents should see construction begin on the site sometime in mid-summer. The site is about a mile north of Lake Hatchineha Road on the east side of Poinciana Parkway.

John Perez said that he has asked Chief Cash to consider having a training room at the firehouse that would also serve as a community meeting room for village 7.

Chief Cash said the new site will improve fire and emergency medical ser-vice to about 25,000 residents who are now served by more distant fire sta-tions in Sun Air and Solivita.

  • FBI TO INVESTIGATE ALLEGED FRAUD BY OSCEOLA MORTGAGE LENDERS By John Perez

Armando Ramirez, Osceola County Clerk of Courts commissioned an investigation to look into al-leged wrongdoing of fraud by mortgage lenders doing business in the county. A forensic audit was conducted by David Krieger of DK Consultants in San Antonio. Ramirez submitted the 738 page fo-rensic report to the State Attorney Generals Office for investigation and against his wishes the report was forwarded to the Osceola County Sheriff's Office. Ramirez said that, They are good cops and responders, but no one in that office is trained to handle such a complex forensic audit. The Osceola County Sheriffs Office concluded that mortgage lenders

doing business in the county did not commit fraud as asserted. The office said that only one of 156 alleged victims provide a statement. Ramirez in turn appealed to the U.S. Department of Justice, that agency, on his behalf, forwarded the forensic report to the FBI, the DOJs investigative arm, in Tampa.

Ramirez said the case needed to be investigated at the federal level and that now he feels at ease after pleading to the Justice Department. The report listed 156 specific cases of homeowners it claims were defrauded out of their homes, the unwitting homeowner is then evicted from a home they think they own. Kreiger said Ramirez has a right to be upset. This report and the 17 boxes clearly spelled out all sorts of document manufacturing. They didnt go after the robo-signers or fake notaries, theyre still at it, Krieger said. The Department of Justice in 2012 reached a $25 billion settlement with the nations five largest mortgage servicers: Bank of America, JP Morgan Chase, Wells Fargo, Citigroup and Ally Financial, formerly GMAC. The agreement pro-vided substantial financial relief to homeowners and establishes significant new homeowner protections for the fu-ture, the DOJ release from Feb. 9, 2012 said.

SENATOR DARREN SOTO BEING REMOVED AS REPRESENTATIVE OF POINCIANA?

On December 30, 2015 a Leon County circuit Judge George Reynolds approved a Florida Senate redistricting plan that would alter the landscape for state senators representing Polk County. Senator Darren Soto, Demo-crat from Kissimmee, is a victim of this change.

Reynolds faulted the Senate GOPs plan because it emerged from a redistricting process that seemed to fol-low an established pattern of map selection that reasonably indicates an intent to choose the best performing map for the Republican party.

Reynolds approved one of the maps that would have a direct effect on Poinciana in the Polk County side and Soto's representation of the residents in the area.

Sotos Kissimmee-based northeast Polk territory in the Poinciana area and Haines City would be taken over by State Senator kelli Stargel, Republican from Lakeland, and he would be left with no territory in Polk. Soto said he is disappointed to lose his Polk territory.

It's not that big of a deal, Stargel said Monday. I'm a state senator, not a Polk County senator.

Soto said, the ruling by Reynolds not only can be appealed, it almost certainly will be. He said the ruling could be appealed to the First District Court of Appeal in Tallahassee or could be fast-tracked to the Florida Su-preme Court.

Will Stargel (Republican) advocate for the needs of the residents of Poinciana, where democrats hold an over-whelming majority according to the board of elections?

As recently has November 2015 when the Polk and Osceola legislative delegations met to discuss Poinciana's incorporation Stargel, who chairs the Polk delegation, said "We have repeatedly, for the last few years, not seen a reason to move forward.

"I think many of the problems the residents are facing are with the homeowner's associations," said Stargel.

It will be interesting to see what support the residents of Poinciana will get from Stargel.

  • I hope you and your families all had a wonderful and safe holiday season and are

as excited about 2016 as we are. We thought we'd start off the year with some tips

on how you can make a New Year's resolution you can keep - improving your

crime prevention skills! Just follow these 5 steps to help make 2016 safe and

crime free for you and your family:

Increase your home security Ensure windows and doors are locked at all times. Lighting should be mounted on all sides of your home. Burglars love dark houses. Install a security alarm system that is monitored 24/7. If that doesn't fit your budget, opt for an audible alarm-noise of the alarm can scare off would be burglars.

Protect your vehicle and identity: Criminals only need 60 seconds to break into a vehicle and steal your valuables including your money and your identity. Within minutes, the criminal will be working to de-plete the funds in your bank account or max out your credit cards. Lock your vehicle and keep the windows rolled up completely. Remove all valuables from your vehicle or store items away from view. Be especially cautious at loca tions such as the gym, daycare, ball field, jogging trails, dog parks, churches, and hospitals. Criminals target these locations because women typically leave their purses in their vehicles. Thieves also look for laptop cases, smart phones, and briefcases left in parked vehicles.

Us the Internet wisely: Change your passwords frequently to increase your online security. Set boundaries for children regarding inter usage, permissible websites/apps, and proper behaviors online. Monitor online activity of your children. Avoid opening e-mails from unknown sources and be suspicious of e-mail attachments. Dont respond to any e-mail solicitations asking for money to avoid being scammed.

Elimanate distractions in the vehicle: Avoid any action that takes your eyes off the road and/or prevents 100% of your attention going towards driving. Make the decision to ban these dangerous activities while driving: texting on the phone, eating or drink ing, use of drugs or alcohol before or during your travels, and driving while drowsy. If you must talk on the phone, use a hands free / Bluetooth device.
