Access to its John ryan theater, a venue for choreographers/companies to congregate, create, rehearse and present newdance works! the contemporary dance world has always been inspiration-rich but resource-poor.  Much of the best work in thefield is being created by independent artists with small companies that do not have the resources with which to produce nYseasons on their own. WHite WAVe’s Festivals Project provides these worthy artists with opportunities to present their cutting-edge work to enthusiastic dance fans.

WhitE WavE Young Soon Kim Dance companyFormed in 1988, the company’s mission is to inspire audiences of all cultures with productions that reflect themes and philoso-phies both modern and timeless. it endeavors to enhance the language of dance through collaboration with music, poetry andvisual art of many forms. its vision is expansive, challenging the threshold of each medium, surging forward to create new pos-sibilities. WWYSKDC wishes to create works of such power, penetration and feeling that audiences renew their concern forother living beings, their connection with nature, and their appreciation for the rhythmic designs that unite us all.

WhitE WavE FEStivaLSWHite WAVe produces two annual festivals with the goal of showcasing the work of emerging and established choreographersand dance companies from across the United States and abroad. the 14th Annual DUMBo DAnCe FeStiVAl (Sept. 25-28)is a 4-day marathon showcase featuring the freshest and most original contemporary artists, with up to 8 different companiesin each hour of programming. in contrast, the 9th Annual WAVe riSinG SerieS (oct. 23 – nov. 10) provides a perfect oppor-tunity for choreographers with limited resources to produce full-length programs and serves many as their new York season.

to be an even greater catalyst for the expansion of dance/arts, this year marks the first in space grants at WHite WAVe

John ryan theater. the program (July. 15 – oct. 7)will grant the necessary resources for artists to experiment and

create new work in an encouraging and dynamic space, with the support of professional mentors and advisors.
