The Albatros Dr.I, carrying the factory designation of L36, was one of several prototypes built by Albatros Flugzeugwerke GmbH never to seeseries production. The Albatros Dr.I triplane was based on the Albatros D.V/Va, from which it inherited the entire fuselage, including the powerplant andarmament. The narrow wings had the same span, and all three featured balance winglets. The German Air Force inspection element ( Idflieg ) tested the newtype in September, 1917. Due to cooling problems precipitated by the need to use a different radiator from the D.V/Va because of the thin upper wing, testingwas delayed. By October 1917, however, the fate of the Alb. Dr.I had already been sealed. The flight parameters of the aircraft were not satisfactory enoughfor frontline use, and displayed some "tail-heavy characteristics". In all probability, only the one Albatros Dr.I ever existed.

Pro potí/e s chladièem, jen/ musel být vzhledem k malé hloubce horního køídla jiný ne/ u Albatrosù D.V/Va, došlo na èas k pøerušení zkoušek,nicménì u/ bìhem øíjna 1917 bylo o osudu Alb. Dr.I rozhodnuto. Dosa/ené letové výkony nebyly pro frontové pou/ití dostaèující a stroj byl pøi pilotá/i "velmitì/ký na ocas". Pravdìpodobnìexistoval pouze jeden exempláø AlbatrosuDr.I.

Der Albatros Dr.I, Fabrikname L36, war einer der Prototypen aus der Firma Albatros Flugzeugwerke GmbH in Johannisthal, die ja nieSerienmäßig hergestellt worden sind. Der Dreidecker Albatros Dr.I wurde auf der Basis des Jagdflugzeuges Albatros D.V/Va hergestellt, aus dem maneigentlich den ganzen Rumpf einschließlich des Triebwerkes und der Ausrüstung benutzt hatte. Schmale Tragflächen hatten die gleiche Spannweite und alledrei hatten Balanceflügel. Die Inspektion der deutschen Flugwaffe ( Idflieg ) hatte das neue Modell im September 1917 getestet. Wegen Schwierigkeiten mitdem Kühler, der wegen der kleinen Tiefe des oberen Flügels anders als beim Albatros D.V/Va sein mußte, kam es zum Unterbrechen der Prüfungen undschon während des Oktobers wurde das Schicksal vom Albatros Dr.I bekannt. Die erreichten Flugleistungen waren für die Front nicht ausreichend und dieMaschine war beim Fliegen "sehr schwer am Schwanz". Es existierte wahrscheinlich nur ein Exemplar.

¼ Albatros Dr.I, marque de fabrication L36, était ¾ un des prototypes de ¾ entreprise Albatros Flugzeugwerke GmbH Johannisthal qui ne futpas, finalement, produit en série. La construction du triplan Albatros fut basé sur ¾ avion de chasseAlbatrosD.V/Va dont on utilisa pratiquement tout le tronc, ycompris les unités de propulsion et ¾ armement. Les surfaces porteuses avaient lam meenvergure et toutes les trois étaient équipées des ailes de balance. ¼Inspectorat de ¾ aviation allemande ( Idflieg ) testa en 1917 un nouveau type. Pour les difficultés de refroidisseur qui devait tre, vu la basse profondeur de ¾aile supérieur, différent de ceux des Albatros D.V/Va, les examens furent pour un certain temps interrompus, cependant en octobre 1917 on détermina ledestin de ¾ Albatros Dr.I. Les résultats acquis des avions n‘étaient pas suffisants pour les utiliser sur le front et lamachine était, du point de vue de pilote, " tr slourde dans la queue ". Il existait, probablement, qu‘un exemplaire de ¾ AlbatrosDr.I.

Trup letounu byl jako u vìtšiny stíhacích Albatrosù ponechán v barvì lakované pøekli5ky, všechny kovové a plechové èásti vèetnì vzpìr a podvozkových noha také disky kol mìly svìtlý šedozelený nátìr, køídla, VOP a pohyblivá èást SOP byly pota5eny plátnem s ( pravdìpodobnì pìtibarevným ) lozenge-potiskem. Stroj nenesl 5ádné sériové èíslo ani typové oznaèení.

The fuselage, as in the case of most of Albatros’ fighters, was stained plywood. All metal items, including struts and wheels, were painted light gray-green.The wings, vertical and horizontal tail surfaces were fabric covered with a ( probably five-colour ) lozenge pattern. The aircraft carried no series or typeidentification.

Le tronc de l’avion, comme pour la plupart des Albatros de chasse, gardait la couleur de la contre-plaqué vernis, toutes les parties en métal et en fer-blanc, ycompris les étais et les pieds du train d’atterrissage et aussi lesdisques des roues des étaient de couleur grise et verte claire, les ailes, et l’indicateur dedirection étaient revêtus de toile avec l’impression lozenge ( probablement de cinq couleur ). La machine ne portait aucun numéro de série ni la marque detype.

Der Rumpf des Flugzeuges wurde wie bei den meisten Jagdflugzeugen Albatros in der Farbe des lackierten Furniers gelassen, alle Eisen- und Blechteileeinschließlich der Spreizen und Fahrgestellbeinen und auch die Radscheiben hatten einen hellen graugrünen Anstrich, die Flügel, und derRichtungsanzeiger wurden durch Leinen mit ( wahrscheinlich fünffarbig ) Lozeng-Bedruckung überzogen. Die Maschine trug keine Seriennummer oderModellbezeichnung.
