GUIDANCE & COUNSELLING

Guidance is taken from the word guide which means to direct, help, steer, point out, show the way, lead, conduct, regulate, direct.

Guidance is a form of teaching.

Counselling – the process whereby a counsellor and the counselee (client) meet privately in order to have a face-to-face or one-on-one interaction in a more confidential way.

Counselling – the procedural aspect of guidance.

Guidance and Counselling is defined as a planned and organized work aimed at asserting the client to understand himself and his abilities and develop on his potentials in order to solve his problems and achieve psychological, social, educational and professional compatibility.

Importance of Guidance and Counselling

To help individuals discover and develop their psychological, educational and vocational potential in order to achieve an optimal level of personal happiness and social usefulness.

Importance of Guidance and Counselling in School Students are given advice on how to deal with

emotional conflicts and personal problems both in school and home.

Students are advised on how to cope with different situations facing them in their school life.

It helps to shape a student’s behaviour and instill discipline in students.

Students get to learn to know how to live in harmony with others in the school community.

Students get comprehensive pieces of advice on career, courses and jobs which inable them to have an informed choice on what to do after school.

To bring about a voluntary change in the client.
