Making a Long Road Trip with Children Tolerableby: C.S. Mackay

Back when you were a little kidyour parents had to grin and bear it.They played games to keep youentertained and searched licenseplates for a new state. At the end ofthe trip they were too tired to enjoytheir stay. They just rested up for thereturn trip and a rerun of the previous

trip, arriving home exhausted. What a vacation?

This will not happen to you if youare willing to take advantage of thenew car video technology. With theintroduction of car videos children can enjoy the trip with some of theirfavorite videos. There are severaltypes available on the market now.

There are the standard mount to theceiling models. Now there are hangover the seat models with ear phones so that each child can have their ownif necessary and these are moveablefrom seat to seat. Also, available arehead rests with video screens built inthem that can replace your presenthead rests. Now there are even car

videos to put on sun visors or on thedash.

With this car video technology you can now take your children’s favoritevideos and let them play them overand over and it will not drive you crazy because they have ear buds. Thismeans that you can still carry on aconversation with someone and not

always be interrupted with theinevitable “Are We There Yet”. By theway ipods and MP3 players will dothe same for your teenager.

I can attest to the above because Ijust got off a road trip of 16 hours with these three youngsters and fouradults. There were very few problems and parents and grandparents werejust tired from the ride not tired fromfighting. I personally felt that theportable video was best because wecould shift it between seats and thenthe unoccupied child did what weused to do play games.
