2014/2015 Class Assignments

During the month of May, Gudith staff members will be working diligently to create balanced class rosters for the 2014/15 school year.

When assigning students to classes, our teachers take many factors into consideration to cre-ate class assignments that are in the best interest of all children.

The Teacher Request Policy at Gudith Elementary School allows parents/guardians to make one teacher request during their child’s tenure in the building. Please review our “Gudith Teacher Request” procedure and form for more details.

Dress Code Reminder: The primary function of a school is to develop a student academically, socially, and emotionally. Student dress should not come into competition or conflict with this goal. Studies have shown that behavior is influenced by how students are dressed. Proper dress promotes a positive self-image. Please dress your student appropriately for school. The follow-ing guidelines will be used in all Woodhaven-Brownstown School District Elementary Schools.

Hats, caps and bandanas are not worn in school at any time.

Shorts are allowed in August, September, May and June unless otherwise designated by the principal. Shorts must be at least 5” from the crease in the back of the knee. No jogging shorts, cut offs or spandex shorts allowed.

Shirts- No tank tops, no see-through, mesh, or mid-torso length shirts.

Shoes and Boots: Tennis shoes are required for gym classes. They should be white soled, as the black soled ten-nis shoes mark up the gym floor. Turf shoes and spiked shoes are not allowed. Socks must be worn to school.

KINDERGARTEN NEWS

We celebrated March Is Reading Month in a BIG way! The Kindergarten teachers transformed our

media center into an Under the Sea adventure land. Our students spent 2 mornings exploring aca-

demics in a new and fun environment. Parent volunteers helped us observe hidden ocean friends in a

sandbox, experience scientific principles in a small rocking boat, and discover the absence of fric-

tion while sliding on the ocean in our stocking feet. We ate Krabby Patties (White Castle hamburg-

ers donated through their corporate office), Fish and Chips (goldfish crackers and potato chips),

Oysters (two Nilla wafers propped together with frosting and mini marshmallow pearl), SpongeBob

applesauce and we drank green Hawaiian Punch that we called seaweed juice. We performed flips

and rolls like dolphins, calculated SpongeBob themed math problems, fished for our Sight Words,

put together Ocean themed puzzles, explored IPad games, completed crafts and coloring. We read

books in the dark using our flashlights to light up our words and we were all left wearing Sponge-

Bob tattoos. Did we have fun while we learned? Aye, aye Captain!

2ND GRADE NEWS

2ND Graders are really enjoying reading biographies/autobiographies. In math, we are working on re-

grouping and word problems. It is very important students continue to practice their math facts at

home. We will be doing many exciting things during March to celebrate Reading Month, including

celebrating Dr. Seuss’ Birthday by eating “Green Eggs & Ham! We look forward to seeing everyone

at Spring Conferences in March; more news to follow!

Thank you for the great turnout at parent/teacher conferences. We enjoyed letting you know how

much your child has grown this year. April brings us one month closer to having 3rd graders! Stu-

dents will be working hard on reading poetry, math to 1,000, and writing opinions!

5th Grade Safeties will be going to a Toledo Mud Hens game Wednesday, May

20TH. Permission slips were sent home.
