Growth Innovation Employment Sustainability Speaker Biographies Anne Bouverot, Director General and Member of the Board, GSMA Anne brings to the GSMA a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success in the highly dynamic mobile industry. With a deep understanding of the opportunities and the challenges facing mobile operators today, she leads the GSMA in driving strategic programmes and initiatives for the benefit of its membership. Before joining the GSMA, Anne was Executive Vice President for Mobile Services for France Telecom Orange. In that role, she defined the strategic priorities and led transformation programmes for the mobile business, and was also responsible for the selection of mobile devices sold to customers with mobile offers. In 2010, this represented more than 120 million mobile customers, 29 million new mobile phones distributed and more than 14 billion euro in revenue. She previously was responsible for international business development at France Telecom Orange, and her achievements include the privatisation of Telkom Kenya, new mobile licences in Armenia and Tunisia, and partnerships in Portugal and UAE. Prior to France Telecom Orange, Anne led a 600-person business unit of Equant and was responsible for developing IT services for Equant’s multinational business customers. She began her career in telecommunications as project manager for Telmex in Mexico in 1991. Anne holds M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in mathematics and computer science from the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris and an M.S. degree from Telecom Paris. She has served on the Board of the GSMA, representing France Telecom Orange, for the past two years. She also serves as a non- executive director of Groupama, a major French insurance company, and as a non-executive director of Edenred, the world leader of prepaid corporate services. Bastian Hauck, Founder, Adventure Diabetes Bastian Hauck, type-1 diabetic, sailor and author, founded Adventure Diabetes in 2010 after a half-year sailing trip around Cape Horn. Working closely with DiabetesDE, the IDF and patient organizations as well as medical entrepreneurs and the pharmaceutical industry, he promotes an independent lifestyle not limited by diabetes. Martin Garner Senior Vice President, Internet, CCS Insight Martin is a well-known figure in the mobile industry. He has a BSc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Bristol University and an MBA from City University in London. He was at Ovum for 17 years, through the introduction of 2G and 3G. There he built up the mobile practice, was Director of Research and went on to establish the Wireless Intelligence joint venture with the GSM Association. During this time he built a strong reputation within the mobile industry and became a prominent commentator. At CCS Insight, Martin focuses mainly on Internet services and experiences, and the wider role of mobile across various sectors of the economy including M2M and the Internet of Things. Dr. Marcus Gemeinder, Senior Projects Leader, Innovation Projects, Deutsche Bahn Marcus Gemeinder joined Deutsche Bahn AG (DB) after obtaining a PhD in electrical and information engineering in November 2003. Since then he has been involved in the field of electronic ticketing. In July 2005 he became leader of the strategic project ‘eTicketing’. The main goal of that project was to evaluate all different types of electronic ticketing approaches available then and in the near future and to derive based on that an electronic ticketing strategy for the DB. As a result, in November 2006 DB together with Vodafone initiated the cutting-edge project ‘Touch&Travel’ with Marcus being project manager on DB’s side. After several pilot stages with different NFC phones the approach is now open to all customers and the backend system is currently migrated to a mass-capable platform. In addition, Marcus is involved in all of DB’s NFC-related activities as well as innovations in other areas. Jürgen Hase, Vice President M2M Competence Center, Deutsche Telekom AG Jürgen Hase, born in Hannover, married with 4 children, started his carrier after having studied news technology and graduated as an engeneer at Fachhochschule Hannover in the field of telecommunication at Keymile as a distribution and sales director. Jürgen advanced his career at Alcatel as leader of product management, as head of system consultancy at Firstmark, chief of Advance Business Concepts at Datentechnik, and Director at MC Technologies. Since 2011 Jürgen Hase is Vice President of the M2M Competence Center at Deutsche Telekom AG. Within Deutsche Telekom he is responsible for the international M2M business. Jürgen has worked in the telecommunications industry and in the M2M sector for more than 20 years. He is also Chairman of the M2M alliance.

Ulf Ewaldsson, Senior Vice President, Chief Technology Officer and Head of Group Function Technology, Ericsson

On February 1, 2012, Ulf Ewaldsson was appointed to his current position at Ericsson.

Previously, Ewaldsson was Head of Product Area Radio at Ericsson’s Business Unit Networks. In this position, which he held from January 2007 until February 2012, he was instrumental in helping to create some of the products that reflect Ericsson’s technology leadership, such as HSPA and LTE in the radio-access network; the multi-standard RBS 6000; and the antenna-integrated radio unit.

Ewaldsson is also a member of Ericsson’s Research Board. He has more than 20 years of experience in product management, industry development and customer relations, which has taken him to leadership positions at Ericsson in China, Japan, Hungary and Sweden.

Ewaldsson was born in Skåne in southern Sweden in 1965. He graduated with an MSc in Engineering and Business Management from Linköping Institute of Technology in Sweden.

Thibaut Kleiner, Member of Cabinet for Vice President Kroes, European Commission

Thibaut Kleiner is a member of cabinet of Neelie Kroes, where he is in charge of Internet policies at large (Net futures, media & data, trust and security, Internet

governance) and robotics. He has worked for the European Commission since 2001, occupying a number of positions, notably in the field of competition policy, where he was head of unit in charge of coordination, and member of cabinet of Neelie Kroes in her previous mandate, where he notably supervised state aid (including during the banking crisis). An economist by training, he holds a Master from HEC Paris and a PhD from the London School of Economics.

Henrik Mørch, Head of Unit, DG Internal Market and Services, European Commission

Henrik Mørch has been Head of Unit of Single Market policy, Relations with the Council since spring 2011. He began his career in the European Commission in DG

Competition where he worked on state aid policy and later as the Assistant to the Director-General, Alexander Schaub. He then moved to the Cabinet of Commissioner Poul Nielson where he took charge of issues pertaining to competition policy, Internal Market and relations with the European Parliament. In 2005 he joined DG Internal Market and Services as Head of the Legal Affairs Unit”

Antti Peltomäki, Deputy Director-General , DG Enterprise and Industry, European Commission

Mr Antti Peltomäki is Deputy Director-General of the Enterprise and Industry Directorate-General since February 2012. In this function, Mr. Peltomäki is responsible for

regulatory policy including internal market and standardisation, sustainable growth and EU 2020 which includes industrial innovation and mobility industries, textiles, chemicals, metals, mechanical, electrical industries, raw materials, tourism and key enabling technologies.

Before that, Mr Peltomäki was Deputy Director-General in the Information Society and Media Directorate General where he was firstly responsible for research cooperation in the context of the seventh research framework (2007-2013) and thereafter for regulatory policy in the telecommunications, media and internet fields.

Mr Peltomäki has also worked as Head of the Commission’s representation in Helsinki in 2006 – 2007.

Prior to joining the Commission in 2006, Mr Peltomäki worked for almost ten years in the office of the Prime Minister of Finland, initially as State Under-Secretary, then State Secretary for EU affairs.

A lawyer by training, Mr Peltomäki began his career as a coordinator of international research and training courses at the Helsinki University of Technology.

Megan Richards, Director Coordination, DG Communications Networks, Content and Technology, European Commission

Megan Richards has Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Laws and Master of Public Administration degrees and is a member of the Bar of New York. She has worked for

the United Nations Development Programme in Africa, the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington, the Government of Canada and private law firms. In 1991 she joined the European Commission, initially working on programmes relating to SMEs. For a number of years she was Head of Unit of Administration and Finance dealing with legal, contractual, and financial issues relating to research projects in the Research DG and from 2002 to 2006 she was the Head of Unit for dealing with legal, regulatory and contractual issues relating to the European Union research Framework Programmes. In September 2006 she became Director of Resource Management in the Commission’s Joint Research Centre, in May 2009 was appointed Director of General Affairs in the Commission’s Directorate General for Information Society and Media (INFSO) and in April 2011 became Director of Converged Networks and Services. From February to September 2012 she was acting Deputy Director General. In DG Communications Networks, Content and Technology (CONNECT). She is Director for Coordination.

Rudolf Strohmeier, Deputy Director -General , DG Research and Innovation, European Commission

After studies of Law and Economics at the University of his home town Würzburg and that of Bonn, he started his career as teaching assistant at the Department of Civil and

Commercial Law at the University of Würzburg in 1979. In 1980, he joined the Bavarian Liaison Office to the Federal Government in Bonn. Following a 2-years detachment to the Development Policy department of the European Commission, he established the Bavarian Information Office in Brussels and became its first Director.

From 1987, he served in the three Cabinets of Commissioner Peter Schmidhuber (Macroeconomics and Regional Policies, later Budget and Budget Control). In 1995, Agriculture Commissioner Franz Fischler appointed him Deputy Head of his Cabinet.

Nominated Head of Division in DG Agriculture and Rural Development in 2000, he joined the Cabinet of Commission President Prof. Romano Prodi in 2003 as Adviser i.a. for industrial, agricultural and environmental policies. From 2005-2010, he served as Head of Commissioner Viviane Reding’s 2nd Cabinet (Telecommunication and Media).

Paul Verhoef, Head of Unit, DG Mobility and Transport, European Commission

Paul Verhoef is Head of Unit “Research and Innovative Transport Systems” at DG Mobility and Transport of the European Commission. Before that, he was the Programme

Manager of the EU satellite navigation programmes. In his career at the European Commission, he has worked in the areas of telecommunications policy, eCommerce, Internet policy, satellite and mobile communications policy, and international affairs. He was seconded to ICANN – the organisation responsible for the management of Internet Domain Names - as Vice President Policy Development and worked a member of the Cabinet of the responsible Commissioner for Information Society. In the early career he worked for the ITU - an UN Agency – in the South Pacific, Eutelsat, the European Space Agency, and Philips Electrical Industries of New Zealand. Paul is from the Netherlands and has a M.Sc. Degree in Electrical Engineering.

Karsten Ottenberg, CEO, Giesecke & Devrient

Annabelle Gawer, Assistant Professor in Strategy and Innovation, Imperial College London

Annabelle Gawer is Assistant Professor in Strategy and Innovation at Imperial College Business School. She is an internationally-recognized expert and a thought leader

in high-tech strategy. She teaches hi-tech business strategy and strategic management on the Executive MBA and the full time MBA, as well as on Executive Education programmes at Imperial College Business School. She is the Editor of the Journal of Strategic Management Education.

Dr. Gawer’s pioneering research on platform leadership and ecosystem dynamics has led to new understanding of the rules of high-tech industries, ranging from computers and telecoms to electronics. Her first book, Platform Leadership: How Intel, Microsoft, and Cisco Drive Industry Innovation (Harvard Business School Press, 2002), co-authored with MIT Prof. M. Cusumano, became a reference in business and academia, and had an impact on top-management thinking and practice worldwide. Platform Leadership explains how Intel, Microsoft, Cisco, Palm and others have learnt to orchestrate and cultivate innovative business ecosystems to support their products roadmap - and in the process, established dominant market positions. Her more recent book, Platforms, Markets and Innovation (Edward Elgar, 2009), is quickly becoming a reference in the field of platforms research. Her work has also been published in the Wall Street Journal, the MIT Sloan Management Review, the Journal of Economics and Management Strategy, the European Management Review, Communications and Strategies, the European Business Review, and Research in the Sociology of Organizations. Her books and articles have been translated in Chinese and Japanese.

Dr. Gawer has consulted for, and given master classes, to top management executives in major corporations in the US and Europe such as Microsoft, Philips, Nokia, Symbian, AT&T, Telefonica, IBM, SAP, DaimlerChrysler, Ingenico, Gemalto, etc. Through both research and consulting, Annabelle has gained an in depth knowledge of the following industries and sectors: telecoms equipment and services, internet, mobile payment, digital security, enterprise software, consumer electronics, and semiconductors. She is regularly invited to address international audiences as a keynote speaker, such as Shanghai Expo World Fair in 2010, or the European Commission’s Digital Agenda Assembly in 2011.

Dr. Gawer’s latest research extends her work on platforms to the mobile Internet/telecom Cloud ecosystem, and the Near Field Communication space. She is exploring what makes innovative business ecosystems emerge (or fail to emerge), and what makes platforms succeed. She is also collaborating with IBM and BT on disruptive business platforms and the design on platforms in product-services bundles.

Matt Hatton, Director, Machina Research

Matt Hatton is a widely respected wireless industry expert with 15 years’ experience at the cutting edge of telecoms research. His current role is as Director at Machina Research, a specialist research and consultancy firm focusing on the M2M, IoT and mobile broadband

markets. Prior to establishing Machina Research, Matt was Program Manager at Yankee Group focusing on the mobile services market in EMEA and most recently at Analysys Mason he was Research Director managing all research on the telco services market, with a particular focus on mobile broadband and other new emerging services and business models.

Matt’s current focus at Machina Research is squarely on the emerging opportunity for machine-to-machine communication. He is considered one of the foremost industry experts on M2M. As well as managing a growing team of analysts at Machina Research he spends his time helping mobile network operators, vendors, regulators and numerous other interested parties to understand the implications and opportunities presented by the growth of new connected devices.

Matt is widely quoted in both trade publications (such as Total Telecom, Light Reading, Mobile Today, New Media Age and Mobile Europe) and the wider national and international press (including BBC, The Financial Times, CNN, The Telegraph and The Independent). He also speaks frequently at conferences and acts as a judge for a number of prestigious awards (including the GSMA’s Global Mobile Awards).

Matt holds an MSc in Telecommunications (Distinction) from University College London.

Carolina Jeux, CEO, Telefónica Learning Services

CV Degree in Computer Sciences (Ingeniero superior de Informática) from the Universidad Politécnica of Madrid in 1994. International MBA of Alcatel en collaboration with INSEAD.

Early career includes a position as consulting manager in Alcatel, and in Arthur Andersen as an eBusiness manager specializing in strategy and the design and implementation of internet business models.

Since 2001, CEO of Telefónica Learning Services.

Morten Karlsen Sørby, EVP and Head of Strategy and Regulatory Affairs, Telenor Group

Mr. Sørby joined Telenor in 1993 where he has held a number of senior positions, including Executive Vice President and head of the Nordic mobile and fixed network operations of Telenor, Deputy Chief Executive

Officer of Telenor Mobile and General Manager of Telenor International AS. He has previously worked at Arthur Andersen & Co in Oslo, Norway.

Education: Master of Science in Business administration. He is a state licensed public accountant (Norway). He also has qualifications from the International Institute for Management Development, IMD, in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Matthew Kirk, Matthew Kirk was appointed Group External Affairs Director of Vodafone, and a member of the Executive Committee, with effect from 1 March 2009

Matthew joined Vodafone in 2006. Before that, he was a member of the British Diplomatic Service for more than twenty years, with diplomatic postings in New York

(UN), Belgrade, Gibraltar and Paris, and a number of positions in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and Cabinet Office in London. Matthew led the FCO’s programme in investment in IT and telecommunications for three years, and prior to joining Vodafone served as Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Finland.

Matthew graduated (MA) from St John’s College, Oxford, and holds the Diplôme International d’Administration Publique from the École Nationale d’Administration, Paris. Aged 52, he is married, with two children.
