1. Once you have checked and updated your personal details, click on ‘All about me’. This will take you back to the page above.

2. You should try to update your ‘All about me’ page regularly. While you, your family and friends might stay the same, your interests, what you are proud of and your plans and ambitions will certainly change from time to time!

3. REMEMBER TO CLICK THE BLUE ‘SAVE’ BOX IN THE BOTTOM LEFT HAND CORNER BEFORE YOU LEAVE THIS PAGE!

Notice that you have the option to upload a photo – remember that MerIT is a secure site, and only you, your parents and your teachers will be able to access your personal information! At the bottom of this page you will see a speech bubble and ‘Comments’. This is where your teacher can add a comment, question or note of praise about something you have written. Achievement and progress

1. Click on ‘Achievement and Progress’ in the left hand column. This will take you onto a page like this:

2. You will have no previous achievements logged, so click on ‘Add an achievement’:

curricular, school ethos and personal achievements. Click the cross in the right hand corner to close, or backspace. Remember, you should be thinking about your achievements, and the skills developed, in each of these areas when you fill out your profile:

Now, try to fill out a ‘New Achievement’ – Fill out the Achievement Title – what have you achieved? Fill out the date – it may be ongoing, for example playing for a

national/international team, but you should be able to add a start date. Click the box that fits the learning context for this particular achievement.

For example, learning how to work out percentages would be Curricular Areas, while captaining your local football team would be Personal Achievement.

Next, fill in what you did and, most importantly, what you learned. This is where you should identify the skills and qualities that you have developed/practised through these achievements. Use the glossary of skills and qualities at the back of this booklet to help you!

Once you have filled in all the information, click and then << Go back to your achievement and progress.

You will have to complete an achievement for all your curricular areas in order to generate your pupil profile – this might mean entering an achievement from last year, which is fine.

Use the page at the back of this booklet to record achievements as they happen – you can them add these to your profile at home.

Check out how your profile looks at any time, by clicking on ‘Profile’ on the left hand side and then ‘Generate Pupil Profile’. Once you have opened your profile in Word you will be able to see any areas that still need updated before your profile is printed in June. Remember, your profile only takes your latest and best achievements!

Learner Statement

Your Learner Statement is included in your S3 Profile after your ‘All about me’ section. This is the part of your profile that focuses on what you are like as a learner. It should be written in paragraphs, not bullet points, and cover:

What you see as your strengths (these might be academic strengths, such as “I’m very good at maths and science subjects” or it might focus on your skills, such as “I’m very good at subjects which involve communication as I enjoy reading, writing, listening and talking”.

What sort of person you are in school – are you hard working? Do you commit to tasks and try to do your very best? Do you rise to challenges and work best under pressure? Or do you like to have plenty of time to perfect your work?

How focused are you in school? Do you concentrate in all your subjects, or are there particular subjects you find it difficult to focus in? Can you think why this is the case? How can you improve this?

What sort of learner are you? Most people are visual learners – do you like seeing work on the board/screen? Do you like to work with mind maps or flash cards? Or do you prefer listening to your teacher explain things verbally? Do you like working/studying with other people, or speaking your work out loud? This would make you an auditory learner. Some people learn best when they are out their seats or actively doing something, rather than sitting listening – is this you? May be you prefer practical subjects or group projects – this would make you a kinaesthetic learner. Remember, however, most people are a mixture!!

It is important for you to include as much detail as you can to your learner statement – be proud of your strengths, be honest about your areas for improvement, and be realistic about how you can improve!

I performed a short play with my Drama group, for the rest of the class. This was a big achievement for me, because I am normally quite shy. I learned how to work well in a team, and how to project my voice so that I could be heard clearly. The class all enjoyed our performance, which made me feel really confident.

I received a reward card for my RMPS homework project. I worked really hard on this project, and enjoyed finding out information about what some of my friends and family believe about God. I practised my numeracy skills by putting their responses into a graph, and I analysed this by comparing their responses with my own. I also practised my communication and note taking skills by interviewing some of my friends and family. My teacher was very pleased with the time and effort I put into this project.

Note: The achievement is described in some detail. Projects, essays and photographs can all be uploaded onto MyMerit. It is important to remember that you MUST include the skills you have practised/developed through this achievement.
