Patent Report

Zeolite adsorbent for separation of hydrogen-containing Ion-exchangeable zeolites as disinfectants for cosmetic gas by pressure-swing adsorption preparations M. Minami; K. Enomoto; E. Handa T. Yamamoto; S., Uchida; S. Hiranuma et a/. Nippon Chemical Industries Co. Ltd. Shinagawa Fuel Co. Ltd.; Shinanen New Ceramic K.K. Jpn Kokai Tokkyo Koho 89,304,042, Dec. 7.1989; Appt. May 31, 1988

Jpn Kokai Tokkyo Koho 89,305,013, Dec. 8, 1989; Appl. June 3, 1988

Adsorbents containing 5 75 wt.% zeolite A (Ca exchange ratio ,)

60%) are useful in separation by pressure-swing adsorption of a gas mixture containing H 55-57, CO 5 22, CH4 > 13, N > 9, and 0 z 3 mg/L to recover highly pure H. The zeolite may be blended with < 25 wt.% of a binder, such as bentonite, kaolinite, attapulgite or smec-

tites.

The ions of zeolites totally or partially substituted by antimicrobial metal ions, NHa+, and amine ion (RNH2, R2NH, or RBN) can be used as disinfectants for cosmetic preparations, with minimum irritating properties to the skin. Thus, the disinfectants were prepared by using different ratios of synthetic, A-, and Y-type zeolites, NHdNO-,, AgNOz, Cu(NO&, Zn (No&, methylamine, dimethylamine, and trimethylamine, and their antimicrobial activity in vitro and irritating property to rabbit skin were tested.

DETERGENTS

Wet milling of aqueous aluminsilicate suspensions G. Just Henkel K.-G.a.A. Ger. Offen. 3, 827, 260, Feb. 15, 1990; Appl. Aug, 11, 1988

Aqueous suspensions of aluminosilicate (e.g., zeolite A) are ball- milled for < 30s to give suspensions with particle size distribution < 0.01% 3 microns and < 0.2% 3 25 microns, useful as detergent builders. The milling has little effect on small particles.

Zeolite NaA with specific particle size for use in liquid detergents B.M. Sax; W. Leonhardt: A. Kiss et a/ Degussa A.-G. Ger. Offen. 3, 926, 400, Feb. 22, 1990; Appl. Aug. 12, 1988

Zeolite NaA having average particle size 1.6-3.2 microns is useful as a builder in liquid detergent compositions, giving satisfactory vis- cosity and resistance to sedimentation during storage.

Lightfast dyeing of polyamide fibres K. Fukazawa; Y. Yamakawa; N. Fukuoka et a/. Kanebo Ltd.; Hagiware Giken K.K. Jpn Kokai Tokkyo Koho 90,36,263, Feb. 6, 1990; Appt. July 27, 1988

The title process uses metal complex dyes and zeolite-filled fibres that retain metals more ionisable than those in the dyes.

Removal of nitrogen oxide and unburned particulates from exhaust gases H. Muraki; S. Kondo; S. Matsumoto Toyota Central Research and Developoment Laboratories Inc.; Toyota Motor Corp. Jpn Kokai Tokkyo Koho 89,151,706, June 15,1989; Appl. Dec. 8, 1987

NO, and unburned particulates are removed from exhaust gases by passing through a filter with honeycomb structure to trap particu- lates and contacting with a catalyst containing Cu-exchanged zeolites surrounding the filter wall to combust the particulates and to convert NO, into N2.

Nitrogen oxide reduction process for diesel exhaust gases W. Held; A. Koenig; L. Puppe Bayer A.-G.; Volkswagen A.-G. Ger. Offen. 3, 830, 045, Mar. 15, 1990; Appl. Sept. 3, 1988

High-bulk-density granular la&dry detergent composi- tions K. Tokuyama; Y. Yoshimura; K. Umehara Lion Corp. Jpn Kokai Tokkyo Koho 90,103,294; 90,103,295; 90,103,297;

90, 103, 298, Apr. 16, 1990; Appls. Oct. 12, 1988

NO, removal from diesel exhaust under oxidizing conditions is improved by adding a urea-containing substance as a reductant. The additive, especially aqueous urea, is heated to greater than the decomposition temperature to release NH3 and COz. The process is safely carried out in an auxiliary tank. Cu-exchanged zeolites are especially suitable as catalysts.

The title compositions with good discoloration resistance during storage comprise 5-30% sulfonate salts of Cgz2 fatty acid lower

alkyl esters, O.Ol-3% Csz2 sulfonated fatty acid salts, and -0% crystalline aluminuosilicate salts (e.g., NaA zeolite).

Growth of gallium arsenide N. Sato; T. Nakamura; K. Okane et a/. Sumitomo Metal Mining Co. Ltd. Jpn Kokai Tokkyo Koho 89, 242,488, Sept. 27, 1989; Appl. Mar. 24, 1988

MISCELLANEOUS APPLICATIONS

Growth of gallium arsenide by liquid-encapsulated Czochralski method comprises removal of impurity gases from the pressurized inert atmosphere during circulation of the atmosphere. Ar gas was passed through a ZrOp series-zeolite adsorbent column located outside the growth chamber.

Antibacterial activated carbon for water treatment S. Hattori; N. Naruo; Y. Nukina Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd. Jpn Kokai Tokkyo Koho 89,278,408, Nov. 8,1989; Appl. Apr, 28, 1988

Activated C is mixed with zeolites containing Cu and/or Ag ions to have stable disinfection effect. The products are used for removal of

residual chlorine, trihalomethanes, or malodorous substances.

Crystal growth in enhanced gravitational field D.T. Hayhurst; W.J. Kim; P.J. Melling Bane//e Memorial lnsritute PCT Int. Appl. 90, 02, 221, Mar. 8, 1990; U.S. Appl. Aug. 17, 1988

Crystals, especially of zeolites, are grown in an enhanced gravita- tional field > 1G.
