The gospel writers all try to convey the intense surprise when the believers found Jesus’ tomb empty on Easter. The even greater surprise of His appearance to so many others after His resurrection was even harder to capture in words. After all, it was a startling thing that changed their lives forever! Easter is even surprising to us now! We have things that are surprising for us…but they are wonderful surprises. While we are surprised to see how deep is God’s love for us as God gave His Son to die on the a cross, that’s the way God’s love for us has always been. While Jesus preached that He had a Heavenly Kingdom waiting of those who believed in Him, His resurrection confirmed it. Now we have a Risen Lord, Who is always with us to comfort and support us. The Risen Lord says to us, “Peace I give you.” We welcome that peace. Also, we have His amazing promise that He is always with us. Easter. It was a surprise of those first disciples. Easter. It is a surprising and wonderful gift for today’s disciples as well! Come and join us for our worship services during Lent, Maundy Thursday, and our Easter celebration! The thrift shop had a reported sales figure of $106.00 during January, benefiting the Deacon's fund. February had several icy days with school delays or cancellations. The volunteers are encouraged to stay safe when deciding whether or not to go to Grove and open the shop. The February sales figure will no doubt reflect the closures because of the bad weather. March brings a more spring-like feel to the shop with the Easter decorations now on display. A slow shift from heavy winter clothing to displays of spring/summer attire will be taking place also. Flowers will be placed in the sanctuary on Easter Sunday. You may request flowers to the glory of God or in honor or memory of loved ones. Please place your order with payment in the offering plate or through the church office. NO LATER THAN March 5. Orders received after this date will not be honored. You may pick up your flowers after worship on Easter Sunday. Please indicate your name, the flower you wish, the dedication and the amount of payment.

**Flower color may not be guaranteed**

Martha's Meals was served by our eight Grove volunteers to thirty people on Thursday, February 22nd. It was a very good and filling meal consisting of beefaroni, lettuce salad, bread and butter and dessert. Mary Lee James was in charge of the meal preparations with help from Carol Taylor and Linda Dempsey. Carol Taylor peeled and cut up cucumbers, chopped up the small tomatoes and mixed the salad greens. Mary Lee and Linda cooked and mixed the ingredients for the beefaroni to finish cooking in the oven. When all was ready at 11:30, they plated up the meals for serving. It was so yummy that eight people requested second helpings. In honor of George Washington's February 22nd birthday, Carol Himmer prepared and donated a cherry cake topped with whipped cream. There was also leftover cake from Sunday's coffee hour to finish off the desserts available for serving. The meals were served at the tables by Anne Pomeroy and Betty Umbarger. Tom Ford, as usual, was at the door recording the number of people who came in to eat with us and reporting that information to the kitchen. Eleesa Farley prepared and served the drinks and coffee, plated and served the dessert and finally used the dishwasher to clean all the used and dirty cookware. Betty Umbarger stayed after the meal was done to dry and put away all the clean dishes. Mary Barnhart oversaw the work of the team in action from start to finish. Thank you to Carol Taylor and Betty Umbarger for volunteering at Martha's Meals. Since four of the "regular" volunteers were unavailable, they both gladly accepted when asked to help and did a fine job for their first time on Grove's team.

Grove will serve Martha's Meals again on Thursday April 5th.

Kirk Hill Oat Cakes

Donna Toole

They are called Kirk Hill Oat Cakes because that is the name of the farming community settled

by Scots and the location of St. Columba Presbyterian Church. George has preached

there three years to close the Glengarry Scottish Games.

3 cups flour 3 cups rolled oats (not the steel cut ones) 1 and 1/2 cups butter 1/2 cup shortening 1 cup brown sugar 1 tsp salt 2 tsp vanilla 1/4 cup water Cream butter, shortening, sugar and salt. Add oats, flour, water and vanilla and mix. Roll between waxed paper to 1/2 inch thickness and cut into 1 inch squares. Transfer squares to cookie sheet, leaving a little space between the squares. Bake at 275 degrees until they turn golden brown... at least one hour.
