Devil’s Advocate- Public Displays of Affection

I have no idea why students are so against the

new P.D.A Rule. Honestly, we live in the 21st century; public displays of affection shouldn’t even be consid-ered for people our age. Affection should be limited to long periods of eye contact at a maximum. Anything further than that is sacred and strictly for your future husband or wife. Holding hands, for example, is way too intimate for children and should be spared for mar-riage. Do you even know where those hands have been? Whether they are clean or not; you will never know. They may be dripping with sweat or chock-full of dirt.

Then there’s kissing, the worst of all. Why would you want to place your lips on another’s? Not only is it unsanitary, it just isn’t right. In the unlikely case that the boy or girl you are kissing has brushed their teeth or that their mouth is solely used for that pur-pose; it is still an extremely disturbing display of affec-tion; especially in public. Then there is the appalling matter of sitting on each other’s laps. Dear me! I never thought the day would come that such behaviour would be encouraged or even allowed. Wasn’t it only yesterday that glaring opposite sex was unheard of? With all this

new technology, youths should be satisfied with just texting each other poems or sweet words of admiring innocence. Children these days, they grow up too fast!

 Why did you choose to come to Kenya, and specifi‐cally Greensteds?  Africa is a continent that has always intrigued us! As a result, we developed a strong desire to one day visit the continent. However, when we started to think about it, we decided that it would be a great place to live. Thus we applied for positions at Greensteds and have fulfilled one of our ambitions‐ Africa is Great!  How do you find life here compared to life in the UK?  Life in Kenya is very different to life in the UK. At first we found the transition quite difficult, in the UK one is quite sheltered from the realities of life in the develop‐ing world. After a couple of weeks we felt that we had adapted to Kenyan life and now fully enjoy the varied and exciting nature of life here.  How do you find Greenie students?  Greensteds students are the most genuine, friendly and determined students that we have ever met. The students are always cheerful and positive about every‐thing that they are asked to do. Greenie students make the job of teaching an easy and very pleasurable occupation. 

  How do you find it living in a boarding school?  We have never lived in a boarding school before so this has been something that we have had to get used to. As a teacher you lose a certain level of privacy which is difficult. However, you also get to know stu‐dents and teachers on a deeper personal level which is great!  What do you enjoy the most about Greensteds?  Greensteds is a very friendly place and has a real sense of humanity, something that we are beginning to lose in the UK. The caring community that is Greensteds really is its most positive feature.  A little advice for Greenie students  “Work hard and play hard”
