Page 1 Xmas Dinner Dance—Tuesday 13 December: If you wish to attend the dinner please put your name down asap to enable the committee to plan table/room decorations, catering, etc. See details on page 4 of the newsletter. Marlene and the committee have been working hard to make this a memorable evening. We still have vacancies for this function - the room can cater for 120. This will be our last activity for the year – we do not have a branch meeting in December! Dear Members, It has come to my attention that members are re- serving seats for their friends at branch meetings. We do not reserve seats, a person may sit on any vacant chair at any table. We have had this discussion previously and I am disappointed this practice is still occurring. It is understandable that members may wish to sit to- gether, however there is ample opportunity to catch up prior to the meeting, during the break, or over lunch after the meeting. People have a right to sit where they wish. It is not a positive endorsement of the branch, especially to new members and visitors. With that said, it was heartening to see two members who were sitting on their own being invited to join a group on another table for lunch. This friendly act is what we wish to foster! 2017 Murray Magic Tour: In the October newsletter, I mentioned the above extended COBA tour we are considering for next year. I have again included a tour description in this issue on page 6 and I am now asking interested members to nominate a preferred date and return the slip on the bottom of the page to either Peter Oaten or me as soon as possible. At the January/February meeting we will be collect- ing names and a $100.00 deposit from interested members. Ordering Lunch during the morning break: Members ordering lunch with RSL staff at the morn- ing break may pay either by cash or card. Obviously having the correct cash makes the order- ing process much quicker, but I stress that using a card to pay for your lunch is quite acceptable to the RSL. Management Committee Meeting: This meeting will be held on Tuesday 22 November at 2.30 pm - Greensborough RSL. speedy recovery.

I once gave my husband the silent treatment for an entire week, at the end of which he declared “We’ve been getting along pretty well lately!” Why do people never eat clocks? Because it’s really time consuming.

Samaritan’s Purse — Operation Christmas Child

THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!

Once again we have had a very successful year with collections for Samaritan’s Purse/Operation Christmas Child and the group I work with has filled just over 650 boxes . Thanks so much to all of you who have donated boxes, items or money to make this such a wonderful success. Your support has been amazing. At the Mitcham Head Office we have already sent just over 20,000 boxes in 2 containers — one to Thailand and one to Cambodia . Processing will continue until the beginning of December and we are aiming to create a record by sending 60,000 boxes this year. We know it will bring joy to so many children. Thank you once again, Dianne Klein

What do you call a chicken staring at a lettuce?

Chicken sees a salad!

A woman went into a chemist, walked up the pharmacist and said “I would like to buy some cyanide.” The pharmacist asked “Why do you need cyanide?” “I need it to poison my husband.” she replied. The pharmacist said “I can’t give you cyanide to kill your husband, that’s against the law.” The woman then reached into her purse and pulled out a picture of her husband in bed with the pharmacist’s wife. He looked at the pic-ture and said, “You didn’t tell me you had a prescription!”

2017 - ‘Murray Magic Tour’ In 2017 the COBA committee is considering a similar tour to the one we did to Tallangatta this year, i.e. members use the free V-Line Rail Pass to Kerang where we are collected by bus and taken to the Riverland Motel at Barham that will be our base for the duration of the tour. The Riverland Motel is 3½ star with all normal facilities. The price of the 7-day ‘Murray Magic Tour’ is $650.00/pp and includes 6 nights accommodation, day tours, breakfasts, morning teas and dinners. The tour visits Barham Red Gum Sculptures, Orchard Tour, Echuca, Riverboat Cruise, Swan Hill, Holden Museum, Bendigo Gold Mine or Cathedral, Talking Tram, Bendigo Pottery & Antiques, Lake Boga, Catalina Flying Boat base and a local farm. Numbers are restricted to 30x so we have made two reservations. We would appreciate it if you could fill in the form below and return this to either Peter Oaten or Bob Goodyear as soon as possible.

-------------------------------------PLEASE TEAR OFF HERE ---------------------------------- Place a tick in the boxes below your preferred tour date in order of preference Nos. 1-2: I am interested in the 2017 ’Murray Magic Tour’.

NOTICE BOARD

Are you planning to visit Thailand?

Member, Marg Wood - Tel: 9438 4219, is a regular visitor to Thailand and would be happy to advise you on: • The best shopping places. • Where to buy tailor-made suits. • Pitfalls for tourists. • The wonderful, exciting experiences

you can have. A must visit is to Kanchanaburi (the Thai Burma railway, the Bridge on the River Kwai, tigers living with monks, elephant rides & beautiful scenery). Do not pre-book a tour from Australia for Kanchanaburi - you can do so much better if you deal directly with a local travel agent.

The Fred Hollows Foundation uses second-hand spectacles and sunglasses to improve the sight of people in deprived communities in our Far North & Australian Islands. You can assist by bringing along no-longer-used specs/sunglasses. Cases for specs/sunglasses are also needed. Member, Lorraine Callow, will be happy to col-lect them at Branch meetings.
