Dear Greenmount families, A Farewell from the Greenmount Primary School Community As some people may already be aware, Mr Peter Thomas will be retiring at the end of this year. Mr Thomas has been a valued staff member for 23 years and has made a significant contribution to the school community in that time. Working predominantly in the senior classes, Mr Thomas has ensured that students receive patient support to develop a responsible, organised approach to their work in preparation for high school. In overseeing the selection of Prefects and providing training for them in their roles, he has established a culture amongst our students where leadership is valued and aspired to. Respected by staff, and appreciated for his dry wit, Peter will be greatly missed. Our sincere thanks and best wishes are extended to Peter as he enters this new, adventurous phase. POLICE VISIT It was a big surprise for many to arrive at school today to the welcome of police vans, cycles and even a huge bus! While there were no flashing lights or sirens, there was no mistaking the police presence. The police were on site as they had been invited in by Miss Marotta for an incursion for Room 16 students. The students have been working on designing posters about road safety as part of their learning program. Im certain there will be lots more ideas for the students to use once the incursion is over! REMOVAL OF SCIENCE ROOM Over the last week we have been watching the dismantling of Room 13 – the Science Room – in preparation for its removal today. The Department of Education has reclaimed many demountable and transportable buildings from school sites so that they can be refurbished and then relocated to schools where there is a need for additional classrooms for students. The removal of Room 13 will certainly create a different aspect for the eastern side of the school, as was the case when five demountable classrooms were removed in 2010. We will be working on rehabilitating the site to ensure that it is a functional area of the school. Apologies to Rory Charles. Rory put in an outstanding, individual effort to achieve Senior Champion Boy at the Hills Interschool Athletics Carnival, not runner-up Champion Boy as stated in the previous newsletter.

Well Done Rory!

Koala Mini Series Fencing Competition

On Saturday the 20th Nov and Sunday the 21st Nov, Flynn

Warner-Stanton competed in the Koala Mini Series in fencing.

The first event he was in was the U13 teams. His team name

was WA.SA.SIN (Western Australia, South Australia and

Singapore). The WAS.SA.SIN team’s first poule bout was at

5pm and ended at 9pm. The team proceeded through the first

D.E (direct elimination) securing a bronze medal. The team

consisted of Flynn, Jamen (Singapore) and Nalan (South

Australia).

On Sunday the U11 individuals started at 11am. Flynn won

every bout in his poule and D.Es and achieved a gold medal. A

big achievement as Flynn competed against competitors from all parts of the world.

After competing in the U11s competition, Flynn then competed in the U13 individuals.

Flynn secured 7th place in a field of 21 fencers.

A great achievement. Well done Flynn!

Room 6 Excursion

On November 11th Room 6 students

and parent helpers caught a

Transperth bus to the Midland

Station. Mr Watts gave us a talk

about safety when catching a train.

We walked through the train driver’s

cubicle and then caught the train to

the Perth Museum. Mrs McLennon

taught the children about what it was

like to go to school in the olden days. Some of the children (Xavier, Brayden, Torren,

Declan and Jackson) dressed up in olden day clothes. We all agreed that it is much nicer

going to school nowadays. A few members of the public commented about how well the

children behaved. Mrs Carr and Mrs Williams were so proud of our beautiful class!!!

Uniform Shop Just a reminder to put your bulk orders in if you are going to place one. It has to be in this week, for any last minute orders we might have to place. Also, please be aware that the Uniform Shop will be closed in Week 10 but open right up until Thursday 10th December. Remember the shop will be open on 28 January 2015 from 8.30am - 12pm to pick up orders and for purchases. We have sold some of our discontinued items, and are already out of stock on some sizes. First in , best dressed. Lots of $10 bargains to be had. Stock up on bigger sizes, and save for next year. Thank you, The Uniform Shop Volunteers (Anna, Rebekah, Corina & Karlien)

GREENMOUNT PRIMARY SCHOOL P&C NEEDS YOU! Who is the P&C and what do we do…

Members of the P&C are ordinary, everyday Parents from the school community that come together to share ideas and views on a range of topics affecting our children.

We work alongside the school on a range of matters.

Some of our volunteers run the Uniform Shop, the Scholastic Book Club and Safety House Program

We also raise funds to purchase additional resources for our children. We would love new members/volunteers to help out the remaining members in 2016. There are absolutely NO expectations or skills sets required, just a willingness to turn up and help out if and/or when you can. If you choose to take on a role, some of these can be shared with a friend, so bring one along. The next meeting will be the AGM on 23 February next year . Meetings start at 6h30pm in the staff room. Come in the service entrance and park on the basketball courts. ALL welcome. At the Annual General Meeting (AGM) nominations are collected for office bearers, and other committees. You can choose to either have a go at one of these, or just come along for information and to see what it is all about. Membership, if you choose to join, is a whopping 20c per financial year! THERE IS NO EXPECTATION TO TAKE ON A ROLE. There are plenty behind the scenes things to do, if you should choose to at any time.

Uniform Shop

The Uniform shop is open on a Wednesday morning from 8.30—9.15am

and a Thursday afternoon from 2.30 to 3.15pm

(next to Room 5).

P & C Accomplishments On behalf of the 2015 P&C Committee, I would like to thank our school community for support-

ing us this year with our efforts to not only generate funds for resources for our children, but also

with volunteering your time to help out at events we put together. Without your generous support,

we wouldn’t be able to do the things we do. With your help we have accomplished the following

this year:

We have raised just over $11 000, some of which was used to purchase a bank of IPADS &

2 charging trolleys for the school.

We have also donated some games to the library this year.

We have contributed towards the school ’s Mathletics Program

We will also contribute towards the funds needed to put together the Presentation night

at the end of this year for PP -Year 6.

Scholastics Sales this year has generated around $1900 credit for the school to use for

classroom resources

We have 4 new Safety Houses on board to help keep our kids safe when travelling to and

from school by themselves.

We are also in the process of getting some more outdoor games for the students.

So THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts.

Karlien Matthee (President)
