What is the Green Line?

Proposed 5km linear park

Partnership between City of Toronto and Park People

All potential park lands within Hydro Corridor owned by Province of Ontario

Numerous existing uses » Hydro One facilities » parks + community gardens » parking » vacant land

Hydro One facilities are the primary use. Everything else is a secondary or tertiary use.

Anything done within corridor must not interfere with Hydro One operations and maintenance

Green Line Process

Green Line Ideas

Competition2012-2013

ImplementationOver Time

- Not all projects will be constructed at once

- Implemented over many years when funds and land become available

Green LineIndividual Projects

Construction

City has been developing parks in the hydro corridor since the 1970s

Competition created a vision of broader public space and connectivity

Focus on generating excitement but not all ideas were feasible

Green LineImplementation

Plan2017-2018

How to Make It Happen

- Environmental and Archaeological Conditions

- Opportunities and Challenges

- Conceptual Master Plan and 20% Design for Key Areas

- Priorities and Implementation Timeline

Green Line Individual ProjectsDesign

Refined Design for Each Component Project (20% to 100% Design) - New Parks- Upgrades to Existing Parks- Streetscape- Wayfinding- Parking Lots to Park- Further Public Engagement

Design Strategies

The Green Line= Parks + Streets Together Combine public space within and adjacent to the hydro corridor to strengthen the overall sense of place.

A Seamlessly Connected Path Create an unmistakable route weaving through the various parcels and public rights-of-way.

Flexible Spaces and Programs Offer choice and support a wide range of uses and users with limited space.

Unique Design Elements Introduce seating, lighting, materials, and details that are unique and identifiable to the Green Line.

Planting for Bio-Diversity Transform leftover spaces into beautiful and ecologically valuable habitat.

Repetition to Reinforce Connectivity Bring a clear sense of unity, consistency, and cohesiveness to the many parts, creating a greater whole.
