patrons this Fall. October is the month

for all things scary, and we will be

featuring books on ghosts and the occult .

It is also a t ime to start planning your

holiday dinners and get-togethers, and

we will have a large select ion of

cookbooks to help you with your

entertaining needs. In November keep

your eye out for our crafts collect ion, and

of course, our ever-popular Christmas

collect ion in December. Stop by and

1000BBK Program Kickof fYouth Services now offers another program specifically for our youngest readers, designed to benchmark 1000 books read (to or by) before kindergarten. The goal of the program is to provide a simple, innovative, and fun approach to establishing strong early literacy skills.

SCPL?s 1000BBK program works as follows:

- Sign up for a library card with SCPL- Register your preschooler (birth to preschool) for the

program- Record books read to, with, and by your reader using

program booklogs- Visit the library each time 100 books have been read- Attend library programs and events as able to promote

a love of reading- Show your reader?s completed logbook for certificate of

completion and recognition

To register, stop by the library and see a member of the Youth Services team Monday - Friday between 10 am and 6 pm. We hope to see you and your litt le readers soon!

Nat ional Bullying Prevent ion AwarenessJoin the South Charleston Public LIbrary Youth Services team in wearing blue shirts Monday, October 1 to spotlight World Day of Bullying Prevention. SCPL?s October 1 event, Be a Friend Not a Bully, is a day of focused discussion and kicks off National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month.

Be a Friend Not a Bully events at SCPL include Monday?s October 1 Movie & Munchies showing of Goonies at 3:30 pm. The Wednesday, October 3 at 3:30 pm Middle School Meetup will center on resources and conversations about bullying and bullying prevention.

Special collections of books and information about bullying prevention will be displayed throughout the month as we continue exploring solutions to help eliminate bullying in our community. Fact sheets and interactive activities will also be available at the library?s Imagination Station.

These programs are open to community members of all ages, and no registration is required.
