Ending scenes in The Goonies Coming of age’/ Maturity. – by the end of the film all of the kids have developed in some way or form a good example is Stef and Mouth - Mise-en-scene: very close, heads touching. Mikey and Andy – Mise- en-scene: Very close. All the kids have developed appreciation and respect for their families. Loyalty and friendship. – at the end where Chunk protecting Sloth from police with his pizza tells us that his loyalty and love for chunk is stronger that the love he has for food. The tightly framed shot of all the kids on the beach together in silhouette. Never giving up/ determination. – Long shot of the kids running up the beach with triumphant non-diegetic music playing. when Mouth translate Rosalita’s words the rewards for each of the kids for their tenacity. Beauty is within. – Sloth is seen a character that is bad and something we should be fearful of but his relationship with chunk show us that he a kind person The underdog struggle/anti capitalist – Poorer character are represented as happier than the rich who are portrayed as smug, slimy and unpleasant. The shot of Troy hiding behind his father smirking. The heroes in the Goonies are clearly the kids and the main villains are the adults. Even the adults who are not villains are ineffective and very flawed. The kids are the important characters and they are the only ones with the power to stop their homes from being bought out and destroyed. In contrast, adults are either villainous . The representation the presented differently in the goonies depending on which character you would look at. The girls in the Goonies group are for the large part seen as mostly equal to the boys - Andy saves the group with her piano skills for example. She is still seen as something of a 'prize' to be won from Troy however. Ma Fratelli is also a very strong female character and the main antagonist. it is the clear leader of the criminal Fratelli gang and bosses them about continually despite the fact that her two boys are fully grown adult men. The rich developers are shown ]to be the greatest villains throughout the move and are represented to the viewer as slimly, smug and unpleasant.
