Graphic design gives me a chance to put a piece of myself out there, to make an impact with something that comes from inside me, my ideas. Design is a challenge for me. I love getting a project and working through how I am going to solve the problem. Watching elements interact to create simple, effective communication brings me joy. I find inspiration in many places, especially 1950’s and 1960’s advertising, beautiful cars, and simple solutions to complex problems. I feel the style of my work reflects my inspirations and focuses on pared down graphic elements with a limited palette of bright colors. Not only is simplicity more beautiful in my opinion, but I believe it is also more effective at communicating the message.

A food truck that caters to the late night bar crowd. A simple name with a straightforward approach. Designed communicate the mission of serving fresh, quality food with a lighthearted attitude with a first glance. After fifteen years and a new location, the current identity of this small photography and design studio seemed out of date. Swapping the 90’s Microsoft standard issue type for a simplified look with bold type and a simplified acorn reflects a business that is established and reputable while reflecting the personality of the owner.

After making snowshoes in the garage for years, Tim decided the time had come to share his passions with more than just the odd customer and expand his hobby into a business. Because this business is so deeply ingrained, the look had to be perfect. The client’s love of the northland, Paul Bunyan, and classic beer advertisments gave a lot to work with.

INDIAN ISLAND WINERY

Located near my hometown, Indian Island Winery has become a success since opening a few years ago, but to me, the quality of the design did not represent the wine or the experience well. My take on the look of the winery used the history of the location and the quality of the experience as inspiration for a more sophisticated approach.
