RESEARCH + ADVOCACY+ Last June, CERF+, in collaboration with South Arts, released the Cultural Placekeeping Guide: How to Create a Local Emergency Action Network Guide.

+ CERF+ continues to work with government officials to advocate for the inclusion of a provision in FEMA that will cover self-employed workers - like artists - to receive tool replacement funds after federally declared disasters.

+ Co-sponsored Arts Advocacy Day to help support strong public policies and increased public funding for the arts.

+ With the National Coalition for Arts Preparedness & Emergency Response, CERF+ provided weekly mentorship and networking support calls about arts relief efforts with arts and culture leaders affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma (September).

+ CERF+ was invited to join Heritage Emergency National Task Force, a consortia of over 50+ federal agencies and national service organizations that support disaster preparedness, response and recovery related to protection of the country’s cultural heritage.

CERF+ served 1,536 artists with our career protection and preparedness education programs and resources. More individuals were served by CERF+’s programs last year than the previous four years.

  • + Etsy Moves Mountains for Disaster Relief. Shortly after Hurricane Harvey hit, Etsy reached out to CERF+ with an offer to help raise funds within their seller and buyer community to support CERF+’s Disaster Relief Fund. Within a few weeks, 1,800 members of the Etsy community raised close to $60,000. Etsy has matched these funds to create their own seller community emergency relief fund at CERF+. + A Beautiful Evening at the Glass House. Seattle-based Chihuly Garden and Glass, led by CERF+ Board member, Michelle Bufano, hosted a dinner and silent auction for CERF+ with artists, local collectors and members of the Art Alliance for Contemporary Glass on tour to the Seattle area. The festive evening raised over $14,500 for CERF+. + Museum of Craft and Design Supports Wildfire Recovery for Northern California Artists. Last October, an Francisco-based Museum of Craft and Design raised $10,000 for CERF+’s wildfire relief efforts in Northern California during their annual Big Bid Bash gala. These funds were generously matched by the Windgate Charitable Foundation.

+ Page Turner Turns Profits! For over a year and a half, Valerie Hector, David Bacharach, Ken & Julie Girardini, and Susan Levi-Goerlich collected, compiled, and edited stories from artists around the country who make their living selling their work at craft shows. The result is the beautifully illustrated Craftspeople In Their Own Words. Published in 2017, the artists have generously donated the proceeds of this book to CERF+. Get your copy at cerfplus.org.
