GRANDPARENTS (performed by Archie T, Jai S and Sasha) It's Grandparent’s Day and we're here to say, "We love our Grandparents in every way." They love to lend a helping hand. Grandparents always seem to understand. Some are short and some are tall. It doesn't matter. We love them all. Grandparents don’t mind when you get something wrong. They make you feel loved, happy and oh so strong. Grandparents spoil you with sugary treats, Then wave goodbye and say, “see you next week!” They teach you about things, both old and new, And love to play at the park with you. Everything we do makes them beam with pride, It’s so lovely to have them by our side. So sit right down and take a seat, And we'll put on a show that can't be beat!

Grandparents don’t mind when you get something wrong.

They make you feel loved, happy and oh so strong.

Grandparents spoil you with sugary treats, Then wave goodbye and say, “see you next week!”

They teach you about things, both old and new, And love to play at the park with you.

Everything we do makes them beam with pride,

It’s so lovely to have them by our side.

So sit right down and take a seat, And we'll put on a show that can't be beat!

NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION Last Friday all DPS students participated in the National Day of Action against Bullying. All students engaged with class programs in the morning session followed by a whole school activity in the afternoon. The NDA gives schools the chance to take action and empower young people to be part of the solution when addressing bullying in their school community. It provides an opportunity to focus on bullying and the big changes we can make to create safer communities for everyone. For more information please visit: https://bullyingnoway.gov.au

HARMONY DAY Each year on the 21st of March we come together as a school community to celebrate Harmony Day. This year the event has been renamed Harmony Week as it marks the 20th anniversary of Harmony Day. Students will participate in Harmony Day next Tuesday 26th of March. All students are invited to wear orange and bring a gold coin for an out of uniform day. Everyone will participate in a whole school activity, to celebrate diversity and convey the theme, “Everyone Belongs”. For more information please visit: https://www.harmony.gov.au/

SPORTS NEWS Scone Gala Day A great day was had by all at the annual Group 21 Rugby League Scone gala day. It was great to see so many players trying football for the first time and having fun with their mates. The Under 7s won their first game convincingly against St Mary’s Scone. They then progressed to the next round where they were narrowly defeated by Muswellbrook South PS by just one try. All players scored a try on the day and there were lots of happy players. Well done everyone! The Under 8s came up against a very tough opposition in their first match. Unfortunately, they were defeated and missed out on progressing to the next round. They never gave up though and every player fought very hard right through to the final whistle. It was terrific to see the players supporting each other and sharing the ball around. Great team work everyone! The Under 9s had a very successful day. With only 4 teams entered in their division, they moved straight to the semi-final where they defeated St Catherine’s College Singleton. They then progressed to the final where they met Scone PS. In the end DPS were too strong for Scone and came away with a convincing win and the Under 9s trophy. Congratulations! The Under 10s came from behind to win their first game against Muswellbrook South PS. They then progressed to the next round where they were defeated by Scone PS. They did very well to keep the score line so close against a much larger school and experienced football team. Well done everyone! Well done to Conner who was there to support his brother, who was refereeing for the first time, and ended up getting a run with the Opens small schools team. They played a hard game and were defeated but put in a massive effort for a team that had never even met before let alone played together. Congratulations to all players who represented DPS with such great pride and sportsmanship at the Gala Day. A sincere thank you to the parents who assisted with coaching, score

keeping, running water and other duties throughout the day. It is a massive day to organise for so many students, so your help is thoroughly appreciated.

Under 10’s Knights Knockout Yesterday, the Under 10’s Knights Knockout team played 4 games against other teams from the area. Results will be published in next week’s newsletter. All players had a great day. Thank you to the parents who assisted on the day.

PSSA Rugby League Zone Trials On Monday, Jeb, Seth, Jo, Lucas and Conner competed for a spot in the PSSA Hunter Rugby League team. They represented their school with pride, displaying great sportsmanship and resilience. They all participated in two games and enjoyed the day thoroughly.

BROAD BRIMMED HATS A full size range of broad brimmed hats are now available for purchase. Hats may be purchased on any day at the school office for $15.00 each. Baseball caps are now being phased out in line with the NSW Department of Education SunSmart policy. In 2020 students must wear broad brimmed hats to be able to participate in outdoor activities. P & C AGM Thank you to families who attended the 2019 P&C AGM on Monday evening. We welcomed some fresh faces and a new committee was formed.
