The best of Public Education was on display again at our Education

Week Open Day extravaganza. The day involved open classrooms,

an art exhibition and a performing arts showcase, where students

dazzled visitors with their singing, dancing and musicianship. This

year we enjoyed performances by the junior and senior choirs, the

band and five dance groups.

The combined efforts of students and parents came together at the

Science Fair, visited by hundreds of interested parents,

grandparents, ex-students and retired staff members. On display were models, mobiles, animal shelters,

cookers and campfires, electrical circuits, environments, life cycles and much, much more.

The Open Day was an outstanding demonstration of student engagement and community involvement – a

credit to all participants and a tribute to Public Education. Well done and congratulations to all involved in

helping to make this day a great success.

We have been busy reading the Children's Book Council of Australia

(CBCA) Short Listed books for 2018. The K-2 classes have been doing

some great artwork in the library to showcase some of these books.

The CBCA Book of the Year Awards will be announced on the 18th of

August and we look forward to finding out if any of our favourite books

win.

On Tuesday the 11th of September (Week 8), we will be having our annual

DRESS AS A BOOK CHARACTER PARADE. The theme this year is "Find Your

Treasure" however students may come as any character from any book. A note with

more information will be sent home shortly.

Exciting Premier’s Reading Challenge News

We only have a handful of students left in the whole school who are yet to

complete the challenge. Whilst we are proud of all our students who have

finished the PRC, we would also like to acknowledge those students who

have gone above and beyond to read more books than they did last year.

The library is also open second half of lunch from Monday to Friday for borrowing and

returning books.

On Thursday 2nd August, 2018 our Senior Girls PSSA Touch Football team played

a game against Ellison Public School at Warrimoo Oval, Warrimoo.

The girls played the game with enthusiasm, fairness and sportsmanship.

Unfortunately they lost the game 2-1 in a tight contest with Ellison.

The game was 1-1 at full time so we then had to have a drop off. This is when each

team lose a player every 2 minutes until a team scores. The first team to score after this time is the

winner. BEPS girls played hard but unfortunately Ellison scored first winning the

game 2-1.

I would just like to say what a wonderful bunch of girls they are. Considering most of

the girls have not played a lot of touch before, they listened and learned a great

deal in training and in the game. It has been a pleasure coaching the girls and

hopefully this will inspire some of them to continue playing

touch football.

A big thank you to Zara Ebeling and Rebecca Twomey for refereeing the game

and for setting up the field and to the parents for supplying lifts and for cheering on

and supporting the students.

On Friday 27th July, four students from Blaxland East Public School, Will Haydon, Ellis Haydon, Deanna

Drake and Virginia Cole went to the NSW All Schools Cross Country Carnival at Eastern Creek Raceway.

A big congratulations to all the students who had a terrific day, running

hard and pushing themselves to their limits. Congratulations to Will

Haydon who will now represent NSW at the PSSA Nationals Cross

Country Championships on The Sunshine Coast at the end of August.

We wish you the very best of luck!

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Phew, what a week to return. A huge one, but an excellent showcase of all the good things teachers are

doing here at BEPS.

A big thank you to all the staff for their hard work last week to ensure that our Education Week

Assembly, Science Show and Art Show went off without any problems. Well done to all the students as

well for their cooperation and wonderful science and art works!

Also a big thank you for all the hard work and organisation staff, and in particular, Janene Pearson and

Shannon Blunt, put into our wonderful NAIDOC celebrations on Friday. It was again an excellent day

and I am sure that all the students had a wonderful time immersing themselves in the cultural activities.

I would like to thank the Executive who did such a wonderful job while I was on leave. It’s great to know

that the school is in good hands when I am away!

A gentle reminder that the Fete is only four weeks away and I know that the

Committee is working very hard to ensure that the Fete is a successful one.

Please make sure you let family and friends know and purchase the All Day

Ride Armbands prior to the Fete. We will need lots of volunteers on the day to

help out on stalls and also before and after for setting up and packing up. The

Fete is the P&C’s major fundraiser every second year, and I know they are

hoping that this one will be bigger and better than ever. All funds will be used to support your child(ren)’s

education and the P&C are looking at how they may extend the hall in the future.

Looking forward, this week we have Year Six out at the Snowy Canberra excursion and the Vocal

Ensemble performing at the Sydney Opera House at PULSE. The following week sees the Band at the

Hawkesbury Eisteddfod on Monday and the Athletics Carnival on Tuesday. Please make sure you

check Skoolbag and your child’s bag for the many notes coming home.

Once again, thanks for all your support of our school,

Cheers

Kerry

The Tell Them From Me student survey (Term 3, 2018)

I am delighted that this term, our school, like many other public schools in the state, will participate in a

Department of Education initiative: the Tell Them From Me student feedback survey. The survey

measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes. The focus

of the NSW-wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices.

You may remember that some of our Year 4, 5 and 6 students also participated in a Tell Them From Me

student survey in Term 1 this year. Asking students to complete the survey twice in one year allows us to

identify trends in student responses as well as track engagement and motivation across the school year.

The survey is a great opportunity for our students to provide us with valuable and quick feedback on what

they think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers inter-

act with them. More than 6,300 schools in Australia and around the world have used Tell Them From Me

to survey 5.4 million students. Capturing the voices of our students will help improve how we do things at

our school.

More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au

I want to assure you that the survey is confidential. The survey is conducted online and will typically take

less than 30 minutes to complete. It will be administered during school hours between 27 August and 26

October. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary.

A consent form and FAQs for parents/carers about the survey is being sent home with students. If you do

not want your child or children to participate, please return the form to school by 27th August.

Copies of the form and FAQs are available from: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents.

Please see Mrs Taylor if you would like any further clarification about the survey.
