It was an extremely hectic week but for 90 students, the Performing Arts Tour at the end of last term was a special and memorable experience.

The group, featuring our band, choir and senior dance ensemble, travelled north to Brisbane, Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast for 5 days. They performed at Queen Street Mall, Carrara Markets, Elston Lodge Retirement Village, Cavill Ave and in the Brisbane Botanical Gardens. The students had a swim at South Bank Beach, enjoyed authentic Mexican and Italian cuisine, visited the art gallery and museum, had a trip to Seaworld on the way home, and the highlight for many was sleeping under the “ocean” at Sealife Aquarium in Mooloolaba.

Thankyou to Mr Keogh and the staff who attended! A great week was had by all!

P & C Meeting tonight, Tuesday 10th October, 7pm in library All welcome!

Dear Parents and Carers, Welcome to Term 4, one which is fast and furious as we lead into the end of the year and Christmas. We start with the Jacaranda Festival and Halloween and then Christmas, interspersed with our end of year Presentation Day, Year 6 Farewell dinner, grade excursions and elections for our school captains, vice-captains and prefects. We also have the swimming scheme in Weeks 7 and 8. Within this dynamic term we will also be functioning our Year 6 to 7 transition with Grafton High School and South Grafton High School as well as enabling the transition of our Year 2 and Year 1 students who will be moving the Queen St site in 2018. This is extremely important as these students enter a different operational environment where there is more expected with respect to their independence and responsibility. Some exciting news is that our canteen will now be open on Thursdays and Fridays for full days and on Wednesdays for 2nd half lunch sales. This is a positive move towards a fully operational canteen. Last term our school’s Performing Arts excursion headed north with 90 students into the southern sections of the Queensland state. It was a memorable and very satisfying excursion and our students were able to demonstrate their skills at a variety of venues including the Queen St Mall in the heart of Brisbane, the Brisbane Botanical Gardens and the Cavill Ave Mall in the heart of the Gold Coast. These students were exceptional ambassadors for our school demonstrating their talents and their positive personal attributes. It was a pleasure to receive praise for our student’s manners, behaviour and talents from a broad spectrum of those who were in the audience watching the performances. A special note of thanks I also extend to Stu from Action Bus Hire who was our bus driver. He was a positive and supportive member of our team assisting with the BBQs, venues and student meals. Again, above and beyond and so much appreciated. I wish to express my sincere ‘Thank You’ to Mr Keogh and Miss Karen for organising this excursion and to them and Mr Craythorn, Mrs Goodall, Mr Crozier and Miss Jody for driving buses, organising meals, ensuring medications and first aide was forthcoming and timely and for being Mr Mum and Mrs Dad when required. It is essential to perform in public once one has achieved skill levels in the artistic domain. Our students demonstrated a calm demeanour, a positive and determined attitude, a caring and supportive nature and a healthy sense of humour and ability to adjust to the new game plan each morning. We can only allow students who have these capabilities to attend this challenging excursion. Well Done to All!!! I hope everyone can have a calm and calculated lead into the forthcoming Christmas period, and look forward to catching up with you at some stage over this upcoming busy 10 weeks .

Will Randall Principal.

HELPFUL TIPS Why does my seat need to be at the correct height???

Whilst riding a bicycle your lower limbs and their joints have quite some load placed upon them. Having your seat too low overloads your hips, knees and ankles. A seat that is too high will cause problems with muscle groups at the back of your legs and lower back due to overstretching. These problems can become chronic if not addressed soon enough.

How do you set the seat of a bicycle at the right height? The age-old question. There are many opinions and convoluted methods about this topic, but, here is a way that is easy and gets the seat height close enough every time. It is VITAL that the seat is NOT too low!!! 1. Place your armpit on the seat of the bicycle. 2. Reach over the bike with a straight arm parallel the seat tube. 3. Your middle finger should reach the axle of the bottom bracket. (Where the crank arm attaches to the bicycle) See picture opposite

Last term’s recipients of the Grafton City Cycles $20 voucher are… Wk 6 Zac Maginnity Wk 7 Lane Logan Wk 8 Olivia Watling Wk 9 Kasumi Fisher Next week there will be a shiny, new horn bolted onto someone’s bike or scooter.

We thank Grafton City Cycles for their continued support.
