V/hy is flexibility important in a dancer?

lraining in flexibility increases the range of movement around a joint and lessens thechance of injury.

What is a Spiral pirouette?

Any pirouette that starts on releve and finishes en fondu.

What are the benefits of splits?

splits directly benefit fonvard and backward kicks. Legs must be well pulled up andfeet pointed whilst stretching across the hip joint and the muscles at the back of the leg.

What is a Russian Jete?

A grand jete where the split changes in the air. It can be done from a bent front legwhich is called a 'hitch'.

Describe'Dish' position.

Sitting on the floor, rontact the upper body whilst shifting the weight back onto thetail bone. Legs are lifted and crossed at the ankles creating a ,dish' shape.

What is the 'Axial Skeleton'?

The axial skeleton comprises the skull, vertebral column, rib cage and stemum.

Name the major bones of the leg.

Why is limbering important to a dancefl

A well limbered body produces dance with a broader style as well as the abilityto show more complex movements.

What is a pirouette?

A spin on one leg. The spin can turn away from the supporting leg, which is en dehors,or towards it, called en dedans.

What is important in a'layout' kick?

Weight forward pushing through the hips, maintaining the height of the kick whileextending the arms behind.

What is an Axel tum?

An Arial pirouette. Begin with an outward rond de jambe and spring into the airtucking both legs under the body.

Describe' Stride' or'Straddle' position-

Sitting high on the ail bone with legs fully stetched and extended as far as possibleto the sides.

What is tre 'Appendicular Skeleton'?

The apenilicular skeleton includes the limb bones of the arms and legs, and the girdleslhat mnnect frem to the arial skeleton. That is the shoulder girdle and the pelvic girdle.

Name the bones of the foot?

Tarsals, Metatarsals and the Phalanges.

Where are ball and socket joints located?

Hip and shoulder joints.
