GRADE 3 NEWS
Dear parents,
On behalf of the Egyptian American International School, I would like to welcome you to the 2017 - 2018 school
year.
I am Mrs. Maggie Bedwany. I will be your child’s 3rd grade Literature teacher. This is my second year here in EAIS.
Students are asked to bring the following every time they have English Literature:
Wonders Book Wonders Practice Book (Your Turn) Literature Notebook (white cover) English Binder A pencil case that contains: pencil, eraser, sharpener, glue, ruler and colors This week we will be working on the following:
Make sure that all students bring their materials. Books, notebooks and binders.
Ice breakers – Getting to know the students and their hobbies. We will explain class rules to make sure that students fully understand them.
We will go over the binder and make sure it is divided into sections as follows:

Weekend Packs Assessments
English Blog:
Everything that we do in class from class notes to PowerPoint presentations, books, extra sheets, model answers and
weekend packs will be posted on the blog. If at any time a student loses his/her sheets or wants additional copies for

This year we have a lot of interesting events. According to recent studies , parental involvement in child’s education is
one of the strongest indicators of student achievement. We hope you will make it a priority this year to attend as many school-sponsored events as possible. Together we can make a difference! You can help by sending us well-
rested children with full tummies and a hug and a kiss still fresh on their minds. This sets the stage for a lovely day.

Dear Family,
I hope you had a lovely vacation, and I hope my kids are excited about the new academic year just as I am :)
In science class this year, we will be using SCIENCE by Science Fusion Publishers. This text book program provides
comprehensive science content and hands-on experiences, and it offers interesting facts, concepts, and graphics.
In the coming week, we will help the students get more oriented with our system and rules. We will be exploring
and discovering a lot of facts about science and students will value the importance of studying science in their
lives. Also, my young scientists will have their first lab visit in which they will explore
the lab tools and get to know the lab safety rules and regulations.

There are many ways you can help your child with science this year:
Encourage your child to read science books about topics related to the units and chapters he
or she is studying.
Discuss with your child science news and stories that you hear in media (ex. Nat. Geo. Wild).
Use science vocabulary words from the text book chapters when you discuss the stories.
Encourage your child to use internet resources to research chapter topics and to find addition-
al information.

Kind reminders:
Student’s binders are checked every 2 weeks so always help your child to keep his binder organized in the following order of sections:
Section 1: Inquiry Lab sheets ( 15 pockets) Section 2: classwork sheets ( 15 pockets) Section 3: Homework sheets (15 pockets) Section 4: flipped classroom sheets ( 10 pockets) Section 5: Tests and Quizzes ( 5 pockets)
The lab coat should be with the students at all times.

culture. One of our objectives is to make students love the language before

Dear Grade 3 Parents,
Greetings EAIS Parents, My name is Nihal Laz and I will be your student's Com-puter teacher for the 2017-18 school year. My goal for this course is to introduce your student to educational uses for computers that will allow them to succeed not only in their other classes here at EAIS, but in future studies and jobs as well.
Topics of study Topics that your student will study may include: Touch typing Word processing Internet safety and research Multimedia presentation Programming basics
Grades
Grades will be based on three areas: effort in class, quizzes, and projects. More detailed information on anything we are doing in class can be found at the class blog grade32017018.wordpress.com
Use this blog regularly to find links to class resources, instructions, videos, homework, news, and examples of outstanding student work. Students will use the site to work through the required lessons, homework, and projects. While every project or homework will have a specific due date.
Students are expected to Enter class on time and get straight to work. Students are expected to remain in their seat and on task during class. Students in need of help can raise their hands and I will assist them. Please provide your child with display folder, which will be divided into Pro-
jects, class work and handout, homework and quizzes.

Dear Parent,
Drama this year will consist of three parts:
Our regular Drama class Students will participate in various activities designed to:
Improve Confidence Improve Fluency Improve Public Speaking Reinforce Core Curricula Concepts
Home Readers Designed to promote responsible behavior, good reading habits, and build
confident readers. For homework students will be assigned 2 chapters to read from the book “Dan
Tries to Help” and will answer comprehension questions about each chapter at home
Each story consists of a “story book” and a “comprehension/ vocabulary work-book”.
Students will be required to bring both books from school to home and back on the same day each week.
Aweekly trip to the Library. Students will continue to explore and benefit from the use of the school li-
brary. Students will be introduced to the book reports.
