ACT 1

SCENE 1 INTERIOR - CAFETERIA - NOON

T.J., DAMON, MATTHEW and JESSICA all are 17 years old. They

are sitting on a table eating lunch. T.J. is staring intospace.

T.J.I cant believe this, I need an 80average to get into the program Iwant! With these classes, Im nevergoing to make it in.

JESSICA(talks with a full mouth)

What course did you end up applyingfor?

MATTHEW(also talks with a full mouth)

Havent you ever heard that talkingwith your mouth full is rude?!

DAMON(While playing with his food)

Oh, the irony.

T.J.I just applied to the first thingthat seemed fine, I dont really

have any preferences.

T.J.I think Im going to come back foranother year with Matthew

Matthew spits out food at Damon.

MATTHEW(laughs)

Sorry Damon, just shocked. Dont beridiculous, Im only stayingbecause I cant afford it.

JESSICAYeah, T.J. listen to Matthew, youcant just be like this. If youstay back, so will I.

DAMONDamn it. I guess Im staying too.

Everyone looks over and raises their eyebrows confusedWell, you guys are going to needsome protection, right?

T.J.Yeah, fine, whatever then.

MATTHEW

So what, we going to register foranother year then?

T.J.Whatcha talking about? We cantregister for a fifth year. Are youdumb?

JESSICAWow. Fine, are you sure?

T.J.Im almost positive, we have to

fail if you want to stay.

DAMONAll right, I guess. So we agreethen to all fail our final semesterto come back for another year?

SCENE 2 INTERIOR - AUDITORIUM - NIGHT

All graduating students are on the stage and the PRINCIPALis at the podium. The four friends are in the audiencewatching.

PRINCIPAL(off screen)

Please welcome, the graduatingclass of 2011!

All graduating students then run through the aisles in theauditorium. The principal walks by and sees the fourfriends.

PRINCIPALHey guys, werent you guys supposedto graduate with them?

MATTHEWYeah, but we wanted to stay foranother year.

PRINCIPALYou could have came back anotheryear, all you had to do wasregister. You didnt have to fail.

DAMON(Punches T.J. for every wordhe says)

I. Cant. Believe. You. Made. Us.Fail.

SCENE 3 INTERIOR - HISTORY CLASS - MORNING

Students are already sitting down and MR. TRISTEN, theHistory teacher, 35 years old. Wearing a suit. T.J. andJessica try and sneak into class.

MR. TRISTEN

Well, well. If it isnt Mr & Mrs."Didnt Graduate."

JESSICASir, thats not us.

T.J.(sarcastically)

Jess, hes talking about someoneelse.

JESSICATheres a married couple in thisclass?! I want to meet them.

T.J.(face palms and mumbles tohimself)

I have to be in a class with herfor a full semester, oh man.

MR. TRISTEN(mumbles to himself)

I have to teach this girl for thesemester. Today is only a half day.

T.J. and Jessica grab the course outline from the teachers

desk, and sit down.

JESSICAOh my god. Did you see Matthewtoday? So cute, so so cute.

T.J.(Rolls eyes)

Oh god. Not this again. Didnt youlearn your lesson with him thissummer? I thought you were overhim.

JESSICAWell, I am, but, didnt you seehim?!

T.J. picks up one of his binder and hits his head

T.J.Kill me, kill me now. Please.

JESSICAYoure so lucky, you get to spendthe parenting class with him! ImSO jealous.

T.J. rolls around in desk trying to find his way out

T.J.GET ME OUTTA HERE!

JESSICAWell, thats not very nice.

T.J.Im just joking.

(Bell rings)FINALLY!

T.J. runs out of the class before anybody else to avoidJessica.

SCENE 4 INTERIOR - PARENTING - MORNING

T.J. walks into class to see students in groups of two indesks. One seat is empty beside Matthew. T.J. sits besidehim. MRS. HUMBA a 32 year old woman. Wearing baggy clothing.is sitting down on her desk waiting for everyone to sit

down.

MATTHEW(Angrily, and throws his armsaround)

Why! No! Dont sit there.

MRS. HUMBAAh, well then. An interestingapproach to take this class T.J.

T.J.(puts bag on the floor)

Wait, what? Whats going on?

MATTHEWI cant believe this. I thought Iwas going to at least get paired upwith a girl, now Im stuck withyou?!

T.J.What is -

MATTHEWI hate you! So many cute girls in

this class, and Im stuck withyou?!

MRS. HUMBAWherever you sit, whoever you sitbeside; thats who your partner is.

T.J.(looks at Matthew confused)

Wait... so that means...?

MATTHEWYes you idiot! Were going to havea baby.

MRS. HUMBA(laughs)

Its okay. You guys can be thealternative family.

T.J.Dont be dumb, theyll just think

MRS. HUMBATravis!

T.J. & MATTHEW(dramatic gasp)

YOU JUST CALLED ME/HIM TRAVIS?!

MRS. HUMBAOh shush, its not that big of adeal.

MATTHEWYes it is! My mom STILL believesthat his name IS T.J. Thats it. Nolast name, just T.J.

MRS. HUMBA(Bell rings)

Well, then. Alternative family,come pick up your baby.

Matthew & T.J. walk towards Mrs. Humba.

MATTHEW

Already?!

T.J.Oh man. Ill take the baby. Pick itup before fourth.

SCENE 5 EXTERIOR - AN EXIT - MORNING

Damon is outside the school waiting for T.J. to show up.Damon greats T.J. with a huge smile as he walks to him withthe baby in his arm.

DAMON(laughs)

Oh man. Good luck with the baby.Whos the mother?

T.J.Matthew.

DAMONIs she- Wait. MATTHEW?!

T.J.Long story. What are we doingtoday?

DAMONI got it. Are you in, or not?

T.J.What?

DAMONAre you in, or not?

T.J.What are you talking about?

DAMONYou know what Im talking about.

T.J.If I knew what you were talkingabout, I wouldnt be asking!

DAMONAlright, alright. He got some forme. Do you want to smoke or not?

T.J.As long as we wont get caught.

The two stand up, and get closer towards the door, and thecamera moves from in front of them to the hallway leading tothe exit. The baby starts crying and the principal turnsaround and walks toward the noise.

PRINCIPAL(to self)

Hmm, what is going on out there?

As he walks toward them, T.J. sees the Principal walking,and hits Damon and points towards the principal. You can seeDamon throwing the paper on the ground and eats the weed.

ACT 2

SCENE 6 EXTERIOR - AN EXIT - MORNING

T.J. and Damon are in front of the door and T.J. opens the

door for the principal with the hand thats not carrying thebaby.

PRINCIPALT.J. and Damon right?

Damon is not paying attention, astonished by the tilepattern on the floor.

T.J.Yes sir, that is us.

PRINCIPAL

I did not know you were a fatherDamon.

T.J.Actually, Im T.J., hes Damon. Butsir, Its for parenting.

PRINCIPALAh, whos your partner?

DAMON(snickering)

Matthew.

PRINCIPALWho knows, maybe youll get luckywith - MATTHEW?!

T.J.Long story. Dont ask. Please.

PRINCIPAL(shrugs)

Whatever floats your boat.

Damons phone vibrates and Damon goes in pocket to take itout. A regular cigarette falls out. The principal picks itup.

PRINCIPALUhm, Damon. Care to explain?

DAMONWell - sir, I can - you know -

PRINCIPAL(sighs)

I thought you two were better thanthis.

DAMONIm really sorry sir, I -

PRINCIPAL(interrupts and pulls out 2cigarettes)

Were all of legal age, whats thebig deal?

T.J.But sir, the leg-

DAMONThe legal age is, 18. Right?

T.J.Yeah, yeah, of course.

Principal is about to pass the cigarettes to T.J and Damon,but the bell rings.

PRINCIPALSorry, next time guys. You two haveclass.

The Principal opens the door as the two students walk intothe school.

SCENE 7 INTERIOR - MATTHEWS LOCKER - MORNING

Matthew is at his locker switching binders as T.J. walks upto him.

T.J.(handing the baby to Matthew)

Here! I cant take this!

MATTHEW(scared)

Oh Jesus! Where did you come from?

T.J.The baby cries, and stops. Criesand stops. Every five minutes!Waah! Waah! Waah!

MATTHEW(looking away)

Babies do that.

Baby begins to cry again.

MATTHEW(still looking away)Wow, you learned how to mimic ababy!

Matthew turns to see the baby is actually crying.

MATTHEWWow. That is annoying.

The two stand in awkward silence as the baby cries for aboutten seconds.

T.J.I have class. You dont. Take thebaby! You deal with the baby!

Matthew takes the baby and T.J. walks away. The hallway isfilled with students and noise.

T.J.(Screaming over everyone)

Take good care of our baby!

Everyone looks at T.J. and goes quiet.

T.J.(to everyone)

Grow up.

SCENE 8 INTERIOR - STORE - MORNING

A clerk is sitting down reading a magazine as Damon walksin. Clerk pulls down the magazine to see and recognizeDamon.

CLERKHey Damon.

DAMONHey! Whats up?

CLERKJust reading, why are you here? Ithought you were going toUniversity? Didnt you -

Camera follows Damon to the back to pick up a bottle of coke

then back to the clerk. Damon looks at the clerk and freaksout.

Damon drops the pop on the counter and screams out beingterrified.

DAMONWhat the hell?!

POV:

Clerk is now mixing with his surroundings. Damon runs out ofthe store screaming.

CLERKWhats his problem?

CUT TO:

SCENE 9 INTERIOR - HALLWAY - MORNING

T.J. walks toward ROXANNE (age 17) who is at her locker. Heturns the corner and sees her. Shes talking to her friend.

ROXANNE

(to a friend)Yeah, I have English next. Ill seeyou after school?

Her friend walks away and Roxanne bends over to go to thebottom of her locker.

T.J.(leaning on the locker)

Hey, I overheard you have Englishnext?

ROXANNE(looking down at her bag)

Yep, I love English.

T.J.I personally do, depending on theteacher.

ROXANNE(looks up at T.J., is shocked)

Oh my god! Travis!

Roxanne hugs him with her arms around his neck.

ROXANNEIts been so long!

T.J.(narrating)

Who is this chick?!

SCENE 10 INTERIOR - ANOTHER HALLWAY - MORNING

Roxanne and T.J. are walking to class together.

ROXANNESo what are you still doing here?!Werent you supposed to graduate?

T.J.Dont ask, long story.

The two walk into the English classroom together. MR.FERNANDEZ, a 26 year old male teacher wearing a plaidt-shirt and jeans. He is standing by the door doing theattendance.

MR. FERNANDEZ(as Roxanne walks into class)

Good morning Roxie. How was yoursummer?

ROXANNE(sitting down)

Pretty good, Jessica went toEurope.

MR. FERNANDEZ(talking to Roxanne as T.J.walks into class)

Wow, that sounds amazing. Well,good morning Travis.

T.J.(Sarcastically)

Hey, sir. How was your summer?

MR. FERNANDEZI didnt have to deal with you, sopretty good.

T.J.Sir, I have to apologize for -

MR. FERNANDEZDont start. Sit down, and thefaster you pass this class, thefaster youre out of this school.

T.J.I just wanted to say sorry.

MR. FERNANDEZYou embarrassed me, and yourself.Sit down.

T.J. sits down.

Mr. Fernandez walks to the front of the class.

MR. FERNANDEZHello class, welcome to grade 12English. A lot of work, andhopefully most of you, graduate. Ifyou dont, please do it because youfailed, not because of a stupidpact.

T.J. rolls his eyes, yawns, and falls asleep while leaning

his hand on his head.

SCENE 11 INTERIOR - ENGLISH CLASS - MORNING

The bells rings, and T.J. wakes up, and realizes everyone isleaving. He looks at Mr. Fernandez and hes smiling. T.J.gets up and start putting things away and Roxanne walkstowards him.

ROXANNEI talked to her! Why did you leaveher?

T.J.Im sorry, what?

ROXANNE(slaps him)

Answer me! You broke up with mysister! I want to know why!

Everyone else freezes as T.J. is wondering whats going on.

T.J.(confused)

Sister...? OH! Now I know who sheis!

Back to normal.

T.J.Just for your information, I brokeup with her because she was havingan affair!

ROXANNEOh! I didnt know that. FYI, if Ihad the chance, I wouldnt. If youcatch my drift. (kisses his cheek)Ill see you around.

Roxanne leaves the room. T.J. is about to leave the class aswell.

MR. FERNANDEZWhere do you think youre going?

T.J.Well, the bell rang so I -

MR. FERNANDEZYou, are going to stay here. Weregoing to talk.

T.J.Am I in trouble?

MR. FERNANDEZNot exactly.

T.J.Then, Im going.

T.J. begins to walk away.

MR. FERNANDEZYou can go, just know one thing.You wont pass this class, you willnot graduate, again. You need thisclass, so dont fail. Its up toyou, and only you.

ACT 3

SCENE 12 INTERIOR - STAFF ROOM - MORNING

T.J. is with Mr. Fernandez sitting on a couch in the staffroom. T.J. seems nervous and scared because he believes hes

in trouble. Bag in between T.J.s legs, and hes playingwith the handle as a nervous habit.

MR. FERNANDEZ(sipping coffee from a cup)

Do you know why youre here?

T.J.No, I can honestly say I do not.

MR. FERNANDEZDo you remember what happened lastyear, in my class?

T.J. looks away from him.

SCENE 13 INTERIOR - ENGLISH CLASS FLASHBACK SEQUENCE-AFTERNOON

T.J. is sitting in the class, and Mr. Fernandez is readingKing Lear to the class.

T.J.(thinking for a bit then getsangry)

Why is King Lear considered good?It sucks!

MR. FERNANDEZ(surprised)

T.J., the play is good, and theresmore then one plot in the play.

T.J.More than one?! Im tired of beingbored.

MR. FERNANDEZ(angrily)Why are you acting like this? Youlike Shakespeare!

T.J.Hes a horrible writer, Ive alwayshated him.

MR. FERNANDEZIs everything alright?

T.J.(stands up on the desk)

Life sucks. This book sucks. You

suck.

MR. FERNANDEZIf you dont stop this moment, youwill be suspended.

T.J.I just want to fail. Just fail me!Ive done horrible work and ImSTILL passing!

MR. FERNANDEZFine, dont come to class anymore.

Youve failed. Get out of my class,now!

T.J. grabs his things and walks out.

SCENE 14 INTERIOR - STAFF ROOM - MORNING

Shows T.J. staring away from the teacher, then shakes hishead and begins to talk to Mr. Fernandez.

T.J.Yes, I do remember, but sir I can -

MR. FERNANDEZExplain? As much as one is needed,well both survive without one.Youre 18, instead of avoidingpunishment, face it and admit yourmistakes.

T.J.Okay, fine. I just want toapologize to you.

MR. FERNANDEZ(laughs)

Really? I was thinking it was agreat performance. You should gointo acting!

T.J.It was just the only thing Ithought I could do, you know? Not

T.J.acting, just not go to college yet.I wasnt ready and Im still notready.

MR. FERNANDEZYoure not any different from every

other student to graduate lastyear, or the year before it. Thatslife. Nobodys ready for anything,lifes boring like that.

T.J.Yeah, I guess youre right.

MR. FERNANDEZNow, youre going to pass thisclass or at least try, otherwise. Iswear youll be the one whois going to make your life a

living hell.

T.J.(surprised)

Really?

MR. FERNANDEZYeah, dont tell anyone that Imnice though, itll ruin my image.Now get out.

T.J. smiles and walks out of the staff room.

SCENE 15 EXTERIOR - PARK - AFTERNOON

Matthew is holding onto the baby and Jessica is sitting on abench beside them.

JESSICAWhat time is it?

MATTHEWIts almost time to meet everyone.

JESSICAIve been avoiding asking, butwhos the lucky girl whos yourpartner?

MATTHEWUgh, for the last time. Its not agirl, its Travis.

JESSICA(laughs)

I know, you know I like pissing youoff.

Both look at each other, and stare into the others eyes.They slowly move closer then the baby cries.

JESSICAYour baby is crying.

MATTHEWHe can wait.

Matthews phone begins ringing. Matthew grabs it and ignoresthe call. They move closer and then Jessicas phone rings aswell.

JESSICAIts not meant to be, is it?

MATTHEWI guess not. Cmon lets go meet upwith them now.

The two get up and start walking away.

SCENE 16 INTERIOR - CAFETERIA - AFTERNOON

Jessica is holding the baby and Matthew is sitting besideher on their lunch table. T.J. walks into the cafeteria.

T.J.Liking our child eh?

JESSICAWhat can I say, its cute.

T.J.Its not an it, the baby is a -

MATTHEWNo, dude. Its an it. Check it out.

Matthew pulls off the toy babys diaper off (off screen).

T.J.Dude, what the hell?!

MATTHEWThe manufacturer messed it up.What can I say?

JESSICA(takes baby back)

Whaaat? I think its kind of cute!

Damon walks into the cafeteria.

DAMON(laughing)Ah, man, that was utterlydisgusting. Oh god.

MATTHEWHow you holding up after eating allthat?

DAMONNot good. Seriously. I went to thestore, and seriously when I walkedin, it was a person. Next thing I

knew, he turned into a freakingdinosaur!

Everyone laughs.

T.J.Are you going to make it homealright?

DAMONYeah man! Im going to get a ridefrom a phoenix! He said he wontdie til tomorrow, so hopefully I

get home soon!

T.J.(turns to Matthew & Jessica)

Yeah, Im going to take him home.You guys will live without me.

T.J. and Damon walk out of the cafeteria.

SCENE 17 EXTERIOR - WALKING TOWARDS DAMONS HOUSE -AFTERNOON

T.J. and Damon are walking towards Damons house on thestreet kicking a pop can to one another.

DAMONSo, how was he? Was he pissed?

T.J.More then you will ever believe Hesaid hell make my life a livinghell! What a bitch.

DAMON(laughs)

You deserve it.

T.J.(Stops before kicking it,laughs, talks and then kicksit)

Yeah, thats true.

They walk off the street to go to his house.

DAMON(as walking up the path to thehouse)

I need to tell you somethings.

T.J.Things? What things?

DAMONLast year, I got accepted to what Iwanted. I even got a scholarship.

T.J.(shocked)

Really?! Why didnt you tell any ofus? Wait, why are you here? Youcould be doing what you alwayswanted.

DAMONThats the other thing, my momcheated on my dad last year.

T.J.(shocked)

Im sorry man.

DAMON

Nah, dont worry about it. Thatswhy I stayed back. Screw the"protector" persona. I was goingthrough a hard time, I need youguys. Youre my best friends andIm not ready for "the next stage",not without you guys by my side.

Damon starts crying and sobbing uncontrollably.

DAMON(stops crying and startslaughing a lot as he walks

into his house)Ah man. Did you see the freakingbaby?! How does the school get awaywith that?

The door slams shut and T.J. cries a bit but rubs his tearsaway. T.J. begins to walk away as he hears Damon screamingat his younger brother.

DAMONFred, what did I say about being inmy room?! Get the hell out!!

T.J.(laughs and shakes his head)
