Governance confab kicks off underthe patronage of Speaker Al-Ghanim

Kuwait assures continued support for health relief efforts

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 10, (KUNA): National Assem-bly kicked off on Tuesday a conference on governance and its role in improving performance within state institutions under the pa-tronage of Speaker of the National Assembly Mar-zouq Al-Ghanim.

The two-day conference is or-ganized by the legislative and legal affairs committee of the National Assembly, in coopera-tion with Kuwait’s State Audit Bureau, under the title “govern-ance in the State of Kuwait in the realms of legislation, fi nance and administration “.

The conference involves five themes including the governance of develop-ment planning, the rules and principles of the governance implementation

within the framework of the state’s development plan, and governance in the roles of the legislative and judicial authorities.

The event will bring together se-nior officials and parliamentarians, all of whom will delve into the cor-relation between solid governance and rapid devel-opment. In this regard, MP Mo-hammad Al-Dalal, who heads an ad hoc committee dealing with legislative legal affairs, said the conference would help prop up inspection bodies in the country.

He added that the conference will examine the government’s contribu-tions to anti-corruption efforts and measures to ensure transparency and integrity in the government sector.

Al-Dalal said that the conference

will bring together officials from UAE and Singapore to benefit from the expe-riences of the two advanced countries, pointing out to the experience of the UAE, which considered the most pio-neering in the Gulf region.

He noted that the governance will prove instrumental in improving per-formance within state institutions, par-ticularly, in the fields of finance, legis-lation and administration.

The governance contributes to im-proving performance of foundations including the private sector and civil society organizations.

Meanwhile, Kuwait is committed to global health and humanitarian relief efforts, Health Minister Jamal Al-Harbi told attendees of a World Health Orga-nization (WHO) regional committee session on Tuesday.

The minister stressed Kuwait’s sup-port for the integration of efforts to combat chronic diseases and detect cancer into national development plans with a focus on early detection.

This has been successfully imple-

mented in Kuwait, he said, mention-ing the United Nation’s selection of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sa-bah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and Kuwait as a humanitarian global leader and international centre, re-spectively.

The Eastern Mediterranean region is the source of more than half of the displaced people and refugees in the world, he said at the 64th session of the region’s WHO Regional Committee in Islamabad.

For this reason, he demanded further efforts to transform commitments into regional action plans to guide the mod-ernization of health programs and ex-pressed optimism for a better future de-spite the magnitude of the challenges.

He also praised the efforts of the Re-gional Office for the Eastern Mediter-ranean to focus on health information systems and include key indicators to monitor progress towards achieving sustainable development goals, partic-ularly on the basic indicators of mem-ber countries.

‘Promotion of Boursa Kuwait ... was not a surprise’: “The promotion of Boursa Kuwait to an emerging market did not come as a surprise to us”, says Chairman of Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Ali Mohammed Thunaiyan Al-Ghanim.

He said, “We at Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry were going through the stage of rehabilitation and dealing with all the associated challenges and ramifi cations. We had been taking great efforts to deal with these challenges through enthusiasm and care, patience and silence, and knowledge and work. We were confi dent that God will not disappoint those who are sincere in their work”.

Al-Ghanim expressed gratitude and appreciation to all those who contributed to the idea, efforts and support for almost a decade for realizing this remarkable achievement, which culminated in the ef-forts of a diffi cult stage.

He indicated that a more diffi cult phase will begin now to employ this success and make Boursa Kuwait “a tool of fi nancing, develop-ment and investment, to support our national economy and to open new attractive horizons for Kuwaiti youths, as well as to contribute to the rise of the Kuwaiti market to the level of fi nancial and com-mercial center”.
