Govender’s Plant and Civils (Pty) Ltd is a family owned business established in June 1995. We started from humble beginnings as offering the hire of plant, of which we owned two. Now, 22 years later, through hard work, dedication and passion, the company is a B-BBEE level 1 company specialising in plant hire (with 49 units of plant available), civil construction and earthworks. We have earned a reputation of offering work that is of a high standard, a supplier who is reliable and trustworthy.

To become the most preferred supplier for the services we provide all of which will carry a reputation for outstanding, award winning customer service and satisfaction as well as workmanship of superior, uncompromised quality, all within specified timeframes.

To build long term relationships with our customers, taking the time to understand the needs of the customer and providing appropriate and suitable earthworks and civil construction, in response to those needs, in South Africa and expanding into the Southern African Region.

Numerous Civil contracts have been completed with some of South Africa’s Largest Construction Companies namely; Group 5, WBHO and Stefanutti Stocks. Most of the company’s involvement up to now has been as a sub-contractor to the above companies but as Govender’s have developed, we are now ready to market ourselves as the main contractors.

Some of our biggest projects with WBHO included, Demolition earthworks at St Anne’s Hospital, earthworks at Suncoast Casino in Durban and Hulamin in Pietermaritzburg. With Group Five, we completed earthworks, demolition, and bulk earthworks. We are also contracted to the Department of Transport for certain road construction projects. We have worked extensively on gravel roads, storm water drainage, concrete roads, layer work and asphalt. Over the years we have developed and maintained favourable relationships with our suppliers and clients.

The company aims to provide, as far as is reasonably practicable: -

a) A safe and healthy working environment for all its employees, the carrying out of risk analyses and the identification of hazards;

b) Systems of work which are safe and without risks to health or safety;

c) General training in health and safety so that all employees are made aware of any potential hazards in relation to their work, and the latest procedures for overcoming them;

d) Specific training in safe working procedures, the operation of plant and machinery and accident prevention, along with the provision of regular refresher courses, with reference to training already carried out. A system for conducting a regular review of the training needs of the workforce will be on-going;

e) Basic training in health and safety to new employees and young workers, and to ensure that whenever new plant or variations in systems of work are introduced, then the appropriate safety training is given;

f) Personal protective clothing and equipment appropriate to the job in hand;

g) Guidance on what to do in the event of an emergency;

h) On-site welfare and first-aid provision which complies fully with the statutory requirements together with a system for maintaining the equipment;

i) Adequate firefighting equipment will be provided;

It is a condition of service that every employee co-operates fully in complying with, and helping to implement this policy. Any failure to do so will be regarded as a serious disciplinary matter.
