Over the course of the program girls will:
Develop and Improve Competence Feel Confidence in Who They Are Develop Strength of CharacterRespond to Others and Oneself with Care and Compassion Create Positive Connections with Peers and AdultsMake a Meaningful Contribution to Community and Society
Girls on the Run’s 10-week program for girls in 3rd – 5th grade combines training for a 5K with a curriculum promoting competence, confidence, connection, character, caring, and contribution. Twice-weekly lessons and interactive activities are led by trained volunteer coaches who create a positive and safe environment for girls to learn about themselves, connect with others, and contribute to the community. The program culminates in a non-competitive 5K event, which gives the girls a chance to shine and an overwhelming sense of accomplishment.

Who We Are
What We Do
On Your Mark – Get Set – Go! The Steuben Rural Health Network at the Institute for Human Services, Inc. is excited to announce the Spring 2015 season of Girls on the Run of the Southern Tier (GOTRST). Girls on the Run® is a life-changing, experiential learning program that combines training for a 5K running event with self-esteem enhancing, uplifting workouts. The goals of this youth development program are to encourage positive emotional, social, mental, spiritual and physical development. Through such goals, Girls on the Run works to educate and empower girls at an early age in order to prevent the display of at-risk activities in the future. The curriculum, which was developed in Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1996, has since spread to 225 councils, with over 375,000 volunteers delivering the program to 1 million+ girls.
This spring, Girls on the Run of the Southern Tier will offer 16 teams throughout Steuben, Chemung, Yates, Schuyler, and Allegany Counties, where over 300 girls in grades 3 – 5 will participate two days a week for 10-weeks. The culmination of the program includes the completion of a local community service project and a non-competitive, celebratory 5K – highlighting that the finish line is just the beginning!
Not only does Girls on the Run have the capacity to change the individual lives of the girls growing up in the Southern Tier, through improving lifestyle choices and strengthening each girl’s sense of identity, but it also has the power to encourage active participation from the local community in celebrating the achievement of the girls’ limitless potential at the Girls on the Run of the Southern Tier 5K Celebration. Though hosting this event is a wonderful opportunity for the community, it is also a large endeavor that requires a great amount of support in order to be truly successful in inspiring the participants. As such, we are currently requesting sponsorships for this extraordinary event and we cannot do it without our generous community partners!
We hope that you will join us in supporting and contributing to the Spring 2015 season of Girls on the Run of the Southern Tier! Enclosed you will find our sponsorship opportunities for this year’s 5K Celebration - Please review the opportunities outlined to find the right fit for your organization!
Thank you for your time and consideration!
