FROM THE PRINCIPAL Dear Parents and Carers, Election BBQ At Saturday’s Election Day our school P & C ran a BBQ to raise funds for the Library. I wish to thank all of our helpers that cooked and served on the day, as it is a massive undertaking organising such a BBQ and thank you especially to Jess Schwetz our P & C President for organising it all. Thanks also to her father, Chris, who was a fantastic help. I was only there for a few hours but saw so many of our current and ex families. Thank you to everyone for supporting the school and raising funds to revamp our library. NAPLAN Last week our Year 3 and 5 students completed the NAPLAN tests. We kept it very low key so to make it as stress free as possible. Thank you to our Teachers and School Learning Support Officers for supporting our kids so well. Staff Development You may not be aware but our staff participate in Staff Development every Monday afternoon after school, plus being involved in our staff development days. Many of our staff also attend courses during and/or after school and bring this information back to share with other staff. Once per term each Stage Team also meet for the day to plan and program together and are very committed to developing their knowledge and skills. Next staff development day our staff are joining with the other schools from the Erina Learning Community where they will learn more about Creative and Critical Thinking and Technology which I believe will not only be very interesting but will assist our kids to further develop the skills they need for their future. Painting We have just had ten classrooms painted plus a few bag rooms. The steelwork in the hall was also painted and the “grills” were all powder coated. This took a lot of organisation and meant that for the duration of the work classes had to use the staffroom and at times the Library. Thank you to our amazing kids who adapted so well and didn’t mind being in the staffroom for their lessons. We have had all of the classrooms repainted which has really given them a lift. The “old” Dental Clinic is also being refurbished and this will be turned into a staffroom with an office for interviews etc. This should be completed next week. Operation Art This year we had over 100 entries for Operation Art. We had 10 finalists and from these 4 were chosen to be sent away for judging and hopefully placement in one of the hospitals or offices around the state. Past examples of the work that has been exhibited are outside my office. There are also many examples down at the Children’s Hospital. Thank you to Hayley Roberts for coordinating this, it was a huge job. Excursions Last week and this week we have classes on excursions to The Rocks and to the CARES Road Safety Program at Palmdale. Our students are always on their best behaviour and represent our school so well. On Monday 6th May the Senior Boys soccer made their way to Hylton Moore Oval to take part in Round 2 of the Sydney North PSSA Boys Soccer Competition. Our opponents on the day were Woodport Public School. The boys were keen to take to the field and put all their hard work during practise sessions to the test. It was evident in the first half that the teams were very evenly matched. There were plenty of ball handling skills on display and an impressive amount of teamwork. Despite our notable line of defence, Woodport managed to secure a goal. The second half of the game was thrilling to watch. GEPS managed to hit back with a goal in the second half, only for it to be disallowed due to being offside. This only sparked the boys to fire up even more. The boys continued to fight and put the pressure on. There were numerous shots at goal but unfortunately, none were successful. The excitement was buzzing in the finals minutes of the game and GEPS were on the attack. Time was not on our side and unfortunately, the second half remained scoreless. The Senior Boys showed a great level of skill and sportsmanship on the day. They represented GEPS beautifully and should be very proud of their efforts.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who helped at the Election BBQ and cake stall. Despite 3 weeks of pre-polling, the P & C still managed to raise $1691.45, which will go towards future GEPS school Library renovations.

Great work GEPS!

Regards,

Jess Schwetz P & C President
