Silence for reflection

Page 8: Good Friday Liturgy of the Passion and Death of the Lord We gather in silence

When I survey the wondrous crosson which the Prince of glory died,my richest gain I count but loss, and pour contempt on all my pride.

Page 9: Good Friday Liturgy of the Passion and Death of the Lord We gather in silence

Forbid it Lord, that I should boastsave in the death of Christ my God;all the vain things that charm me most;I sacrifice them to his blood.

Page 10: Good Friday Liturgy of the Passion and Death of the Lord We gather in silence

See from his head, his hands, his feet, sorrow and love flow mingled down;did e’re such love and sorrow meet, or thorns compose so rich a crown.

Were the whole realm of nature mine, that were an offering far too small:love so amazing, so divine, demands my soul, my life, my all.

The cross is carried into the midst of the church. Three stations are made and three times we say:

We adore you, O Christ and we bless you.

Because, by your holy Cross you have redeemed the world.

Priest:

Let your bearing to one anotherarise out of your life in Christ Jesus. He humbled himself and in obedience accepted the death of the cross.God bestowed on him the name above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bowand every tongue confess Jesus Christ is Lord.

Prayer before the Cross

Page 14: Good Friday Liturgy of the Passion and Death of the Lord We gather in silence

All:Father, hear our prayer and forgive us.Unstop our ears that we may receive the gospel of the cross.Open our eyesthat we may see your gloryin the face of your Son,that your truth may make us whole.Fill our hearts with your lovethat we may love one another for Christ's sake.Father, forgive us. Amen.

We come to the cross one by one or with others.….

We may kneel, touch, kiss, pray before the cross….

The Cross

Page 16: Good Friday Liturgy of the Passion and Death of the Lord We gather in silence

O sacred head sore wounded, with grief and shame weighed down;O kingly head surroundedwith thorns your only crown;death’s shadows rise before you,the glow of life decays:yet hosts of heaven adore youand tremble as they gaze.

Page 17: Good Friday Liturgy of the Passion and Death of the Lord We gather in silence

What language shall I borrowto praise you, heavenly friend, for this your dying sorrow, your mercy without end?Such agony and dying!Such love to sinners free!O Christ, all grace supplying, turn now your face on me.

Page 18: Good Friday Liturgy of the Passion and Death of the Lord We gather in silence

In this your bitter Passion, good shepherd, think of me,look on me with compassion, unworthy though I be:beneath your cross abidingfor ever would I rest,in your dear love confiding, and with your presence blessed.

Page 19: Good Friday Liturgy of the Passion and Death of the Lord We gather in silence

Lord, be my consolation,my shield when death is near;remind me of your Passion,be with me when I fear.My eyes shall then behold you, upon your cross shall dwell,my heart by faith enfold you;and who dies thus, dies well.

The response :

Let us pray to the Lord,Lord hear our prayer.

The Intercession

Page 21: Good Friday Liturgy of the Passion and Death of the Lord We gather in silence

And now, O Father, mindful of the lovethat bought us, once for all, on Calvary’s hill, and having with us him who pleads above, we here present, we bring before you stillthat only offering perfect in your eyes, the one true, pure, immortal sacrifice

During this hymn we take up a collection for ABM – Australian Board of Mission

Page 22: Good Friday Liturgy of the Passion and Death of the Lord We gather in silence

Look, Father, look on his anointed face, and only look on us as found in him; look not on our mis-usings of your grace, our prayer so halting, and our faith so dim: for now between our sins and their reward we set the passion of your Son our Lord.

Page 23: Good Friday Liturgy of the Passion and Death of the Lord We gather in silence

And so we come; O draw us to your feet, most patient Saviour, who can love us still; and by this food, so awesome and so sweet, deliver us from every touch of ill; in your own service make us glad and free, and may we in your presence ever be.

bread.
