PARENTS YOUR VOTE IS NEEDED Emails have been sent to parents to take part in a poll that would change the time for evening sessions from 6-7:30pm to 12:45– 2:00pm. If voted for, this change would take place beginning September 2018. This poll is in response to concerns expressed by families throughout the year. Please check your email and respond Yes or No by May 6.

Parish Fasting

For the Life and Healing of the Parish, Father Gaul has asked us to Fast each Wednesday of the week. Please remember that you can do a full

fast, a partial fast or other type of self-denial.

Parish Evangelization

Would you like to help build the parish? Help the parish grow by inviting someone you know who has fallen away from the church to come to Mass with you one weekend. Or invite someone new who is not Catholic. God is always calling new people to him and asking us to live out our baptismal call. What better time since we hear so much negative publicity about God and church? We might not be able to bring God and prayer back into school and our government, but we can bring people into the church.

May Crowning:

May crowning is a tradition in our church in which an image or likeness of the Blessed Virgin Mary is ceremonially crowned to signify her as Queen of Heaven and the Mother of God. Since medieval times, we have had the combination between Mary and the month of May. Among the earliest witnesses was Alphonsus X, King of Castille, Spain (1221-1284). Later, especially in the United States, prior to Vatican II, the whole month of May became the month of Mary. During this time special devotions to Mary were organized for each day of May. Although this custom originated in Italy, it spread widely during the nineteenth century. To show our love and dedication for our Loving Mother, Mary, we will Honor her with a May Crowning at the Grotto, Sunday, May 13th, following the 11:30am Mass.

May is the month of Mary In her honor, the Knights of Columbus will recite the Rosary each Sunday in May at 10:45 am in the Church. Come out and join them to HONOR OUR MOTHER IN HEAVEN. Need a Rosary? Please pick one up from the basket on the Welcome Table.

First Saturday Devotions Offered in reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, First Saturday Devotion will be offered from May–October 2018. During her apparition at Fatima, Our Lady said to Lucia, “I shall come to ask...that on the first Saturday of every month, communions of reparation be made at one moment for the sins of the world. Tell them that I promise to assist at the hour of death with the graces necessary for salvation, all those who, in order to make reparation to me, on the first Saturday for five successive months - go to confession, receive Holy Communion, say five decades of the Rosary, and keep me company for a quarter of an hour, meditating on the twenty mysteries of the Rosary.” The Intention: To console the Immaculate Heart of Mary, offer reparation for the blasphemies and ingratitude of unrepentant sinners, and for peace in the world. The Reason for this Devotion: On May 29,1930, Our Lord explained to Sister Lucia why five first Saturdays. “My daughter, the reason is simple. Against the Immaculate Heart of Mary, five kinds of offenses and blasphemies are committed. • Those committed against the Immaculate Conception; • Those committed against the virginity of Our Lady; • Those committed against the Divine maternity, refusing the same time, to accept Her as the Mother of men; • Those committed by men who publicly attempt to instill

indifference, scorn and even hatred for this Immaculate Mother in the hearts of children;

• Those committed by men who insult Her directly in Her statues.”

Join us on Saturday, May 5th, for our First Saturday Devotion. Confessions, 4:00-5:00pm, Rosary will begin at 4:50pm.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament

First Friday in May, May 4, we will offer Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament beginning at 6:00pm and end with the Benediction on Saturday, May 5, 8:00am.

This is a peaceful and prayerful time and is open to everyone.

Sign–ups are available on the board beside the Welcome Table in one hour increments.

Vocations Chalice This weekend, the Lora family will take the Vocations Chalice home. They will place the Chalice on their table and pray the Vocations Prayer with the Chalice every day and return it next weekend. Please help pray the Vocations

Prayer that is prayed with the Chalice below.

The Prayer for Vocations: Heavenly Father, Bless your Church with an abundance of holy and zealous priests, deacons, brothers and sisters. Give those you have called to the married state and those you have chosen to live as single persons in the world, the special graces that their lives require. Help those who have embraced the consecrated life to live up to their promises. Form us all in the likeness of your Son so that in Him, with Him and through Him we may love you more deeply and serve you more faithfully, always and everywhere. With Mary we ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Would your family like a chance to take the Vocations Chalice home for a week? A sign-up sheet is available on the Welcome Table.

From the Office of the Bishop...

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Today, on the 4th Sunday of Easter, the universal Church celebrates the 55th World Day of Prayer for Vocations. Our Holy Father, Pope Francis, has informed us that the concentration of the fifteenth synod to take place in October of this year will be young people and their relationships with faith and vocation.

Pope Francis writes, "Even amid these troubled times, the mystery of the Incarnation reminds us that God continually comes to encounter us. He is God-with-us, who walks along the often dusty paths of our lives. He knows our anxious longing for love and he calls us to joy. In the diversity and the uniqueness of each and every vocation, personal and ecclesial, there is a need to listen, discern and live this word that calls to us from on high and, while enabling us to develop our talents, makes us instruments of salvation in the world and guides us to full happiness."

Please join me on this World Day of Prayer for Vocations in praying alongside our Holy Father that our youth may be sent out as disciples to foster a deep-rooted faith and love for Our Lord, Jesus Christ. We also pray in a special way for all the priests and religious serving in the Diocese and specifically that our local diocese will be blessed with an increase in vocations to the Priesthood and Consecrated Religious Life.

We also express gratitude to all married couples for their beautiful example. You are a visible sign for the love that Our Lord Jesus has for His Bride, the Church. With God's grace, may your love grow stronger with the passing of each new day.

Through the intercession of Mary Our Mother and Saint Joseph, may Our Risen Lord Jesus bless you and your family in this Sacred Season of Easter and always. In Christ,

Luis Rafael Zarama, J.C.L. Bishop of Raleigh

Home Mission Appeal Collection

Next week, we will take up the Catholic Home Missions Appeal. Right now, over 40 percent of dioceses in the United States are considered

home mission territory because they are unable to fund the essential pastoral work needed in their communities. Your support of this appeal helps ease the struggle of these dioceses. Please prayerfully consider how you can support this appeal. More information can be found at www.usccb.org/home-missions.
