GWRRA – Arizona
Chapter “K” Kachina Chapter
May - August 2015 www.gwrraaz.org/azk
Director’s Corner
By: Becky Sangster Chapter Director
As you know, there will be NO gathering/meeting
on Saturday May 23rd
. It is the week-end of Region
F Convention/Rally at JW Marriott Tucson Star
Pass Resort & Spa. The convention is a great place
to meet new friends and join the fun and
educational activities. Hope to see you there.
Because many of our members leave hot Tucson for
cooler temperatures in July and August, the Chapter
is taking a summer break. There will be NO
meeting or newsletter in JUNE , JULY and
AUGUST. Saturday June 27th
will be our last
meeting until September.
There are no rides scheduled for July and August
but that does not mean, we will not be riding. If
you have an impromptu ride during these months, I
can send out a blast to the members. Just let me
know.
HAVE A GREAT SUMMER!!
Remember;
NO May 23rd
Meeting, see you in June.
RIDE OFTEN, RIDE SAFE AND HAVE FUN!!!!!
REMEMBER TO UTILIZE OUR SPONSORS.

THREE TYPES OF DISTRACTED DRIVING: Multitasking, once confined to the workplace, is now
a staple of everyday life. On top of the traditional
distractions, technological leaps are making distracted
driving more of a danger than ever before.
Distracted driving accidents According to the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration, distracted driving was a cause of
roughly 387,000 accident-related injuries and some
3,330 fatalities in 2011 alone. Because this data comes
from police reports, which may not record all driving
distractions, the true figure is likely higher.
Cognitive, Visual, and Manual
Distracted driving comes in 3 forms:
Cognitive distraction Cognitive or mental distraction is when a driver's
mind isn't focused on driving. Talking to another
passenger or being preoccupied with personal, family,
or work-related issues are some examples. Even drivers
listening to their favorite podcast or radio station are at
risk; the audio can take drivers' focus away from
their driving and overall surroundings.
• Visual distraction Visual distraction occurs when a driver looks at anything
other than the road ahead. Drivers who check the kids'
seat belts while driving are visually distracted.
Electronic devices for the car, such as GPS devices and
portable DVDs/digital entertainment systems, also
distract drivers.
• Manual distraction Manual distraction is when the driver takes one or both
hands off the wheel for any reason. Some common
include eating and drinking in the car, adjusting the GPS,
or trying to get something from a purse, wallet,
or briefcase.
Texting and driving is particularly dangerous because it
involves all 3 forms.
5 tips to avoid common driving distractions
Keeping your focus on the road can be easier said than
done. Here are some things you can do to avoid this
common problem.
Turn off your cell phone — even if you're expecting an
important business call.
If you need to be reachable at all times, get a hands-free
device to use only in case of emergency. Why only in
emergencies? Because studies have shown that
hands-free devices prove just as distracting as normal
cell phone use while driving.
When driving with children or pets, make sure the kids
are strapped into their seats and pets are in carriers. If
they need your attention during the drive, pull over
before handling the situation.
Eat before or after you drive. Just don't eat while driving.
• Program your GPS before you leave the driveway.
Driving and multitasking don't mix We know it's tempting to answer that email or
reprogram that GPS which just rebooted itself for the
third time. But if you're able to resist the temptation
and focus on the road ahead, you'll be able to react to
the unexpected and maybe even avoid an accident.

THOUGHTS from MIKE
Submitted by Mike Hrigora
Those who get “too big for their britches” will be
exposed in the end..
It is a whole lot easier to get older than wiser..
When I am finally holding all the right cards, then
everyone want to play chess.
It’s not hard to meet expenses, they’re everywhere.
If man evolved from monkey and apes, why do
monkeys and apes still exist?
What IF there were no hypothetical questions?
If someone with multiple personalities threatens to
kill themselves, it is considered a hostage situation?
If a turtle doesn’t have a shell is it naked or
homeless?

GWRRA is looking for some volunteer help at the
Reno Rendezvous. GWRRA is setting up a store to
sell their items at this year’s Reno Rendezvous and
could use a helping hand. If anyone is interested in
doing so please let me know. I have been told that
the Home Office will be sure and say "Thank You"
to those that help.
..................................................................
Keith Morrison, our Region F Director has asked
the District Directors to see if there is anyone within
the District that would like to lead a ride to
Huntsville, Alabama for the 2015 Wing Ding. So
please ask around to see if anyone is interested,
either through e-mail or at the next couple Chapter
Gatherings (or both). There was talk that
the individual (or couple) that is chosen to do so
could possibly have their registration reimbursed.
Ask around and let me know by the first of June,
2015.Thanks!

The New Mexico District is looking for a few

Chapter U in Yuma has new Chapter Directors.
They are Howard Cart and his wife Evelyn Kuida.
Kris and I met with them yesterday in Gila Bend
(halfway between Tucson and Yuma) and after a
couple of hours, we left there feeling very good
about them and their ambitions. It is going to take
some time and effort to re-build Chapter U but I
believe Howard and Evelyn can do it.
So please include them in your Chapter blasts and
newsletters and if you are in the area, try and attend
one of their Chapter Gatherings on the 3rd Saturday
of the month.
