Narrator 2: I will not repeat myself.

Narrator 1: Once upon a time, there was a leper.

Narrator 2: Youre making that up.

    Narrator 1: No, for real.

Narrator 2: What is a leper?

Leper: (Enters calling loudly and crosses stage) Unclean!Unclean! Unclean! Unclean! Unclean! (Exits)

Narrator 1: It is a terrible, unclean disease.

Narrator: 2: You mean like chicken pox?

Narrator 1: Do you remember that kid last year at schoolwho stank all the time? His hair was always greasy, and hisclothes dirty?

Narrator 2: Hmmmmmmm.. Yeah! I do remember himnow. He stuttered, and because he smelled so badly, no onewanted to sit by him in class. The teacher finally made himsit next to the window away from the rest of us.

Narrator 1: How do you think it made him feel?

Narrator 2: Id say pretty badly. But I could not stand thesmell.

Narrator 1: That was what it was like for lepers in Jesustime. People did not want to be around them. They wereshunned in society for it was considered to be a bad disease. In fact, the people felt that God did not approve of lepers. They had to live alone, and cry out unclean when therewere any people around. All the time.

Leper: (Enters calling loudly and crosses stage) Unclean!Unclean! Unclean! Unclean! Unclean! (Exits)

    Narrator 2: How terrible!

Narrator 1: The Jewish leaders did not believe a personcould hardly be cured of this. They felt it would be just aseasy to raise someone from the dead.

Narrator 2: Poor man! All those leperswhy didnt they takesome Benadryl for it? It helped me when I had the chickenpox. I itched all over before that (scratches).

Narrator 1: This is different! You did not have leprosy!

Narrator 2: I had spots all over me (scratches again whilelooking at arms) His were white I noticedwhats thedifference?

Narrator 1: A lepers skin is flaky and itchy, but Id say therewas a big difference. Do you want to hear what happened to

    this man with leprosy?

Narrator 2: Sure thing! I like a good story.

Narrator 1: Well, this is what the Bible sayslisten here(Opens Bible)!

Leper: (enters scratching himself. Pulls up pant leg andscratches. Scratches head, arms, and feet.) Wears tattered

clothes that are torn and bare feet.

Townspeople: You are not welcome here! Go home! Get outof here! (Begin to take a few steps threatening toward theleper)

Leper: Unclean! Unclean! Unclean! Unclean! (Running off)

Townspeople: Wait a minute! (Leper turns) Why are youhere in our town? This is a clean town and we do not wantstrangers here especially those who look like you do. This is

a nice town and we pay taxes to keep it that way youknow Uncle Sam?

Leper: Unclean! Unclean! Unclean! Unclean! (Beginsscratching all over again)

Townspeople: Some people never do learn. Im going home.I have a ball game this evening and we are having pizza home made, too. Wait! Who is that?

Jesus: (Enters reading aloud from Bible - Luke 5:12-16) Oneday in one of the villages there was a man covered withleprosy. When he saw Jesus he fell down before him inprayer and said, "If you want to, you can cleanse me." (TheMessage)

Townspeople: (Pointing) Thats Jesus! The healer!

Jesus: (Continues reading from Bible) Jesus put out his

hand, touched him, and said, "Be clean." Then and there hisskin was smooth, the leprosy gone.

Leper: I wonder if Jesus can heal me? I wonder if He wouldthink I was important enough to heal? Maybe, Jesus wouldnot want to touch me. I guess it will not work.

Jesus: (Keeps reading from Bible) Jesus instructed him,"Don't talk about this all over town. Just quietly present your

healed self to the priest, along with the offering ordered byMoses. Your cleansed and obedient life, not your words, willbear witness to what I have done." But the man couldn'tkeep it to himself, and the word got out. Soon a large crowdof people had gathered to listen and be healed of their

ailments. As often as possible Jesus withdrew to out-of-the-way places for prayer.(The Message)

Leper: Maybe its worth a try. He does seem like a nice

    person. Ill go ask Him.

Leper: (Runs to Jesus and kneels at Jesus feet)

Townspeople: Where is the leper going? No way! Hes notgoing to Jesus. Weve got to stop him. Hey there, leper, youstop!

Jesus: What would you have me do for you?

Leper: "Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean."

Townspeople: Thats impossible. A leper cannot be healed. He does not know what he is asking.

Jesus: (Places his hands on the lepers eyes) I will becleansed from your leprosy.

Leper: You did it! I am healed! I am clean, clean, clean, clean! (Dances around & then hugs Jesus). Thank you, thankyou, thank you!

Townspeople: Jesus DID heal him! Can you beat that! Jesusmust have SUPER POWER! No one could do that unless hehad SUPER POWER!

Leper: Clean, clean, clean, clean! (Looks at arms, pulls up

pants shows clean legs) clean, clean. Jesus has made meclean! I am clean!

Townspeople: We may as well go home and eat that pizzanow. I am already late for my game. But wait until I tell thisnews. What SUPER POWER!

Props: Boat, large fish, basket of sea creatures, loaf bread, fish, life jacket, sunglasses (1 pair), oar or use a broom ormop.

    Based on Matthew 14:13-33

Narrator 1: People are often amazed at the strangecreatures they find in the sea.

Narrator 2: I agree. Look here (pulls out creatures frombasket one by one) These are some pretty amazing seacreatures. Ouch! This one must bite!

Narrator 1: Sea creatures come in all sorts of colors, andfunny shapes and many of them have strange habits. Lookat this one!

Narrator 1: Still, I can't think of anything stranger thansome of the things Jesus did when he lived on this earth. You know, what I mean. Like walking on the water.

Narrator 2: That's impossible! When you step on the wateryoure gonna sink to the bottom. I cant even float withoutsinking!

Narrator 1: Jesus walked "ON" the water. He didn't use asurf board. He didn't have a boogie board. He walked righton the water in the middle of a storm.

Narrator 2: Now that's strange! I dont even like thelightening!

Narrator 1: No, it's not really strange. It's a miracle. Wait aminute. I'm starting in the middle, and the beginning is toogood to miss. Listen to this (Opens Bible)

Narrator 1: Jesus had preached to the people all day. Hewas really tired. Oh, how the people loved to hear Jesusteach. He spoke with a power and authority, they had neverexperienced. Still they loved His miracles even more than hiswords.

Narrator 2: Did He heal the lame and blind?

Narrator 1: Sure! The people loved to watch the lame runand jump after Jesus healed them. It was a sight to see the

happiness on the faces of the blind when Jesus opened theireyes. But the people had been there all day. In their hurryto join the growing crowds, many had not brought food.

Narrator 2: That reminds me I did not eat any breakfastthis morning. I was in a big hurry and forgot. Maybe we cango to McDonalds for lunch.

Narrator 1: Maybe. The disciples found two fish and five little

loaves. (Holds up bread and fish) They watched in surpriseas he multiplied the two fish and five loaves of bread.

Narrator 2: I feel my stomach growling now. (Rubsstomach).

Narrator 1: Jesus took the fish and the bread and when Hehad thanked God for it, He began to break it.

Narrator 2: I always remember to thank God for my foodevery day especially if it is McDonalds. I love their doublecheeseburgers and fries.

Narrator 1: When he finished praying, He began to break thebread. He fed five thousand men, plus their wives, and all

    10/24

their little fishes, I mean children. Everyone ate until theirstomachs were full and content.

Narrator 2: I am getting hungrier by the minute. I think we

passed a McDonalds on our way here. It is down the corneron Keister. They sell double cheeseburgers I am sure.(Rubs stomach).

Narrator 1: (Closes Bible) As the sun began to setyou haveheard the rest of the story. Watch what happens next

Jesus: You people have listened so well today. We have fedyou, and now you need to all go home. We all need to havea time to rest from our duties. You, disciples, can take the

boat and go to the other side. I will be there shortly. (Jesusgoes to a place and kneels to pray as disciples get into theboat.

Disciple 1: Yikes! Its getting dark. I think something bit myleg. Yikes! What is that thing?

Disciple 2: Do you think this boat will sink? It looks mightyflimsy to me. Who built this thing anyhow? It reminds me of

a toy boat I had when I was a kid that I used to play with inthe bathtub.

Disciple 1: I dont know, I just hope we make it to the otherside.

Disciple 2: Where did Jesus go? What if we sink in thisthing? It does not look like it will hold too many people.

Disciple 1: Good night! Were doomed. This storm out hereis getting pretty bad. What will we do?

Disciple 2: Well, put on your life jacket. It holds 80 pounds that should do.

Disciple 1: I think it is water logged! Here you take it. I canfloat if it tips over.

Disciple 2: What time is it? 3:00 in the morning! Oh my

stars, thats three hours later. Where is Jesus? He knowsthat we have a need. This storm out here is getting worse.

Disciple 1: Help! Look at that big whale out there. See it?

Disciple 2: I dont see anything (Puts on his sunglasses tosee better)

Disciple 1: Do you see it? Hey, the sun isnt shinning; takethose off before you wreak us. Here take this paddle and

    help me.

Disciple 2: We have been rowing all night and I am gettingtired. Forget it! I am too tired to row any. This wind andlightening and all have made me dizzy. In fact, I think I amseeing double right now.

(Jesus gets up from praying and begins slowly walkingtoward the boat)

Disciple 1: Help! Is it a ghost? Yikes these walls of water areas high as mountains. I cant see too well.

Disciple 2: Someone is out there walking on the water.

Disciple 1: We are in BIG, BIG trouble now! Call 911. Oops!I forgot my cell phone.

Disciple 2: We are in whale size trouble, Id say. I have

never been in a storm like this before with a ghost. Lord, have mercy on us (lifts head upwards in prayer).

    Both Disciples:"Help! Help! It's a ghost!

Jesus: "Don't be afraid. Calm down, it's just me!"

Disciple 1: "Lord, if it's really you, then let me walk on thewater to you."

Jesus:, "Come on, Peter. You can do it!"

Disciple 1: (Peter climbed out of the boat and startedwalking very slowly toward Jesus) This is scary. How is thishappening? Hey (looks back at other disciple) I am walkingon the water. Look at me.

Disciple 2: Watch out for that big wave coming.

Disciple 1: Jesus, help me!" Jesus, help me!" I am sinking.(Sinks down)

Jesus: (Reaches out and grabs Peter by the arm)

Jesus: O Peter, you have such a little bit of faith. Why didyou doubt?" You were so worried about the big wave thatyou forgot that neither wind nor wave can stop me fromtaking care of you when your faith is in the right place.(Jesus helps Peter back to the boat and all get inside).

Narrator 1: When they got back to the boat, the winds grewquiet and the sea grew calm.

Narrator 2: The men in the boat were amazed. Theyworshipped Jesus, the miracle worker!

Narrator 1: Wanna know what I think is stranger thanwalking on water?

    Narrator 2: Whats that?

Narrator 1: What's really strange are people who don't reallyknow and trust God to take care of them. God hasn'tchanged. He is willing and able to take care of you, nomatter how big your problem might seem! He has SuperPower to help us in every situation no matter how big orhow small it is.

    MOSES AND THE RED SEA

Cast: Children of Israel (2), Egyptians (2), Moses (1), and Narrator (1)

Props: Blue material for sea; head coverings (use material) for all kids and

Moses, and rod (tree branch or ruler) for Moses.

Narrator: Now this is a tale that happened so very long ago, and probably

hard for some to believe, nevertheless it is true. You see, God wanted a man

whom he could trust to obey Him, to lead His people the Israelites out from

slavery. Yes, you heard correctlyslavery. The Israelites were treated

harshly and had to work very hard serving the Egyptians. How unfair! These

Israelites were not allowed freedom to worship God the way they wanted.

Im sure glad that I can choose where I want to go to church. Well, lets

    begin the story.

Egyptians: Get busy and work. Dont be so lazy. We want to see more workdone. (Right side of stage)

Israelites: It is such a hot day. They could at least spare us from so much

    work. (Left side of stage)

Narrator: Early one morning God spoke, Moses! Moses!

Moses: Here, I am God. (Bows to the ground - center stage)

Narrator: And so God said, Gather all the elders in Israel and tell them that

I see what the Egyptians are doing to them. I see how hard they are working

and I have come to help them. I will harden the Egyptians hearts to where

they will not believe in any miracles that you or the Wiseman in Egypt

performs. They will see that I am God! I will bring to pass many plagues

that will cause great cries upon the land of Egypt. The king of Egypt will be

greatly troubled and want the Israelites as far away as possible from his

    people and kingdom.

Narrator: Now Moses really did not want to do this job for God. Sometimes

we are like that. We do not always want to do the things that God would like

  • 8/6/2019 God's Amazing Power Theme Drama

    15/24

us to do. Moses was afraid. He wanted help. Sometimes we have to have

help, too. It makes a job easier to do if we have help. So God said Aaron his

brother could help Moses. They both went before the King of Egypt and told

the king what God has said for them to do. Do you know what happened

    next?

    (Moses exits)

Egyptians and Israelite: Tell us what happened?

Narrator: Well, the story continues like this. The Egyptians made the

    Israelites work even harder.

Egyptians: You must do twice as much work!

Israelites: What have we done to you that you treat us so mean?

Narrator: The Israelites were beaten and made to work much harder than

ever. The king was not going to let anyone tell him what to do. Oh my, have

you ever been that way? God told Moses to stretch his rod upon the waters.

Moses: (Stretches rod out upon waters)

Narrator: God then sent a plague upon all the water everywhereit turned toblood.

    Egyptians and Israelite: Yuck!

Narrator: The king still would not let the Israelites go free to worship God

the way they wanted. God again told Moses to stretch his rod upon the

    waters.

Moses: (Stretches rod out upon waters)

Narrator: God sent thousands and thousands of frogs. They were running

under their feet and hopping all over the place. There were so many of them.

Narrator: The king still refused to allow the Israelite freedom to worship

God so God sent another plague. LICE! Yes, these were those awful

creatures that crawl all over your skin, on your clothes, in your hair. The

  • 8/6/2019 God's Amazing Power Theme Drama

    16/24

people were very miserable. They scratched and scratched. Surprisingly, the

children of Israel had no lice at all. Finally, the king said, You may worshipyour God, but you will have to stay here and do it. I will not allow you to

leave this country Now, the Israelites wanted very much to leave. The

Egyptians were making them work so hard and they were getting sick of all

    the beatings.

Israelite: God be merciful to us!

Egyptians: We think you should leave now!

Narrator: Again, the king would not allow the people to leave and worship

Him. Therefore God said, Stretch out your hand Moses.

Moses: (stretched out his hand and drops sand or ect.)

Narrator: And from the hand of Moses came ashes from a furnace.

Suddenly, there were cries upon the land, for all the people and the animals

were covered in boils from head to toe. They were really in pain, now. They

had a hard time walking for their feet were covered in blisters. God did not

allow any of this to happen to the Israelites. Can you believe this? The king

still refused to allow the Israelites to go free and worship Him. My that king

was sure stubborn. He would not give in to God.

Narrator: Again, God sent yet another plague. This was the plague of hail

and fire. As the hail rained down from the sky is struck everything. The hail

broke down all the trees, and flowers. It hit the people. There was such a

terrible mess when it was all over. God kept the hail and fire from disturbing

    the Israelites.

Narrator: God was not finished with the king of Egypt yet. He wanted to

show him three more plagues to help him see that God was in control of the

situation. God told Moses to stretch out his rod.

Moses: (stretches out his rod. Moses will then go and stand with the children

    of Israel)

Egyptians: Yicks! Ouch! Get away you critters!

  • 8/6/2019 God's Amazing Power Theme Drama

    17/24

Narrator: God sent grasshoppers upon all the land with the exception of

where the children of Israel were sleeping. The locusts ate every green thing

in sight. They sure must have been hungry! God sent yet another plague

this time darkness came upon the land. This darkness was so great that even

the moon did not help give any light at all. No one could move, because they

might hurt themselves by bumping into all their many things they owned.

Narrator: I imagine that the king and all the Egyptians were pretty unhappy.

God was not finished with them yet. He had yet one more plague to bring

upon them. This is the most awful plague of all. Now if you do not want to

hear this, close your eyes, oops, I mean your ears. Ready? At about

midnight, an angel went around to all the homes of the children of Egyptians

and put to sleep forever the oldest child. When the families woke up the next

morning they saw what the angel had done. A great cry went up throughout

all the land. The king was so distressed and grieved that he ordered theIsraelites to leave immediately. He never wanted to see them again.

Children of Israel and Moses: Were free!

Narrator: The children of Israel and Moses packed and started on their

journey of freedom to worship God. Moses led them through the wilderness

    on a long journey.

(Moses leads the people around and up to the sea)

Narrator: The king of the Egypt thought he had made a mistake and decided

to pursue the children of Israel and bring them back. Why he needed

workers for all his many tasks.

    Egyptians: There they are!

Children of Israel: Help the Egyptians are coming after us. How will we

    cross the sea?

Moses: (hold out his rod and the waters open)

Children of Israel: (Cross through the waters on dry land)

Narrator: And so the Israel crossed to the side safelyor wait - here comes

    the Egyptianswhat will happen now?

  • 8/6/2019 God's Amazing Power Theme Drama

    18/24

Egyptians: (cross the waters and the waters cover them up. Cast must sit on

the ground quietly as the blue material covers them)

Narrator: The Egyptians did not make it across the sea. God watched over

the children of Israel and He took care of them. God wanted to take them to

a special placea land filled with all the good things to eat. Then sang

Moses and all the children of Israel unto the Lord.

Moses and the children of Israel: The Lord is our strength. He is our

salvation. We will exalt Him (raise both hands toward heavens).

    (All cast then exit)

    God's Power to Deliver

Leader: Gods plan was to deliver the Children of Israel from

the bondage they were in to the Egyptians. Pharaoh, king over

the Egyptians, was stubborn and did not want them to leave

Egypt and worship God. He made them work hard as slaves.

God had to show his power. God struck the river with frogs

when Aaron stretched out his hands over the Nile River. The

land was covered with warts. I mean frogs. They were also in

the houses, the ovens, and even where they kneaded the

    bread they baked.

Characters: Three youth or adults who wear silly hats. One

sun glasses, another a cape over shoulders, and one a large

wide belt (material) wrapped around them.

N1: Hey! Dont touch that frog!

N2: Why not? I like frogs.

    N1: Youll get warts!

    N2: Says who?

N1: My Grandmother said they give you warts. See here - I

got one on my little finger.

  • 8/6/2019 God's Amazing Power Theme Drama

    20/24

N2: Why? Did you handle a frog?

    N1: No, but

N2: Well, how can you say that they give you warts?

N1: They do I just know.

N2: I have had pet frogs for three years now and look do you

see any warts on my hands?

    N1: No, but.

N2: Then dont say that they give you warts!

N3: Did I hear someone has warts?

N1: Yeah! Ive got one on my little finger. You know that I

heard that they come from frogs.

N3: You think so? I do not believe that. Frogs do not give you

warts. I read that they come from a virus from humans not

frogs. By the way, did you ever hear the story about the frogs

    that took over the land?

    N1: For real?

  • 8/6/2019 God's Amazing Power Theme Drama

    21/24

N2: I imagine everyone had warts. Warts on their fingers,

warts on their toes, warts on the knuckles, and warts of their

    nose. Disgusting!

N3: Seven days later the Lord struck the river with frogs when

Aaron stretched out his hands over the Nile River. The land

was covered with warts. I mean frogs. They were also in the

houses, the ovens, and even where they kneaded the bread

    they baked.

    N1: Yuck!

N2: I bet they even had frog pie.

N1: Did the Egyptian magicians try to make frogs come up out

    of the land?

N3: Yes, they did. The frogs all died when Moses cried out to

the Lord. There were piles of frogs all over the palace. The

place reeked with the stinky smell of dead frogs.

N2: Pharaoh probably wanted to get rid of the Israelites

    didnt he?

N3: Actually, he hardened his heart so God told Aaron to strike

the ground with his staff and the dust became gnats.

N1: I hate those pesky things.

  • 8/6/2019 God's Amazing Power Theme Drama

    22/24

N2: Every time we buy fruit at Farmers Market they all come

home with us. They are pesky little things.

N3: This time the magicians in Egypt could not produce gnats.

This made the magicians realize that this was the finger of

God. When the gnats went way, God told Moses to get up early

and confront Pharaoh again as he went to the river.

N1: Oh no! What was coming next?

N2: Hey! This gets more intense as we go along. I bet it was

    grasshoppers.

N3: No. God sent flies and this time it was only in Egypt. The

    land was utterly ruined.

N1: I imagine Pharaoh was ready to let them go now.

    N2: Well, wouldnt you?

N3: Instead, Pharaoh told Moses and Aaron to sacrifice to God

in Egypt, but Moses did not think it was right to sacrifice to

    God in Egypt.

N1: We go to church and worship God. Sometimes, we worship

Him at my grandmothers church. God is everywhere!

N3: God is everywhere, but He wanted to bring the Israelitesaway from Egypt. When God forgives us, He saves us from our

sins and helps us make right choices. Pharaoh wanted Moses

to pray, and Moses prayed what God wanted Him to pray

asking for the flies to be removed.

N1: Did God take the flies away?

N3: He sure did, but Pharaoh still hardened his heart and

would not let the people go.

    N2: He sure was stubborn!

    N1: Sometimes, we are too.

N3: God says stubbornness is a sin, and we must confess it to

    Him.

N1: Yikes! My mom says to me all the time, Why are you so

    stubborn?

    N2: It that sin?

N3: God sees our hearts and He is the judge. The Word says

to honor your parents and obey them. Only we know if we are

    keeping His commandments.

N1: I think Id better check with Him on this.

N2: Me too! I want to keep Gods commandments.

N3: I hope you boys and girls feel the same way. God loves

you and wants to be your Savior, too. If we confess our sins,

He is faithful to forgive us and to cleanse our hearts from all

unrighteousness. His power will help us to live the way He

wants us to live. He will give us the power to do just that.
