BELT DRIVE SET UP WITH BELT GUARD

Positive drive belt omits slippage or variations in shaft speed

Positive drive belt allows for synchronization high mechanical efficiency and constant angular velocity

Plan showing the Belt Drive fitting on the motor and pump.

Grub/Set screw would effectively keep the pulleys from sliding horizontally along the shaft. It would also make direct drive contact between the pulley and shaft so there is no delay.

The positive drive belt has an advantage by combining chain and gear drive. These are very versatile on drives up to 600 horse power and up to over 10,00 rpm. These have a flat outer surface and a ribbed underside.

The positive drive pulley has evenly spaced groves cut into its periphery (outer rimed surface). This is done to correctly make positive engagement with the meshing teeth of the belt. This would enable the belt to rotate the pulley with negligible friction and minimum backlash.

Backlash – this is clearance or lost motion caused by a gap between the parts.

Explanation

Back is covered and front has section left open.

Open space prevents over heating of the belt.

Open space allows maintenance of the belt to be easily done.

Belt guard goes on before the belt drive.

Holes are drilled into the motor and pump and flat head screws are used to secure the guard onto the machines.
