Welcome toIMMERSE\\2014
A little over fifteen years ago, something significant happened in my life. I attended this very conference. (Back then, it was located in Colorado). My life was blurry, confusing and I needed to hear a word from God. I knew God wanted me to be part of Christian music, but really didn’t know what to do, how to do it or even where to go. I’ll never forget sitting through hours and hours of classes taking an entire notebook full of words of wisdom from so many godly men and women. God was speaking to me at a volume I could never have imagined.
As you attend IMMERSE this week, note that there are three types of people here:
1 - Those who have a mountaintop experience - These folks take lots of notes. They look back later down the road and say attending the conference was a good experience. You listened, learned and will go back home with no earth-shattering change. Most of you will fall into this category.
2 - Those who have a memorial experience - Unfortunately there are many of you who will realize the music business isn’t for you. You may walk away from this conference and quit because you came to the realization this business isn’t for you, thus a memorial in your life starts here. While the truth may hurt, it also sets us free and enables us to find our real Kingdom gifts.
3 - Those who begin a movement - A small number of you may experience the birth of a Kingdom focused ministry this week. We are praying this week that God begins a MOVEMENT in your heart for His glory !
What will God do with you this week? What has he started? Come find me and share!
Chris ErlansonPresident, 168 ManagementChairman, IMMERSE Task Force
Welcome to Immerse! I know many of you had to press through obstacles to get here; but you made it and God has something important for you. We have done our best to create an atmosphere that will allow you to stretch beyond your norm and experience creativity in a new and fresh way.
We have designed Immerse to speak into the lives of Christian/Gospel music’s future leaders. This is an opportunity to create not conform. You will be challenged to articulate your calling and you will be pushed toward your unique creative identity. Learning first requires imitation but our future leaders must move on in order to be creative innovator.
I encourage you to get to know your fellow registrants and be open to share who you are and cheer each other on throughout the week. Be fearless and take advantage of the networking opportunities; ask lots of questions in the classes and embrace the diverse styles you will encounter. The GMA Staff and I are here to serve you. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to make this a rich experience for you. I look forward to meeting each one of you.
Blessings,Jackie PatilloExecutive Director & President,Gospel Music Association Proverbs 29:25 (MSG) - The fear of human opinion disables; trusting in God protects you from that.
Psalm 34:4 (MSG) - God met me more than halfway, he freed me from my anxious fears.
