The Importance of Standards, Industry, and SpringboardNotalluserswillneedthetechnicaltoolscontainedintheGlobalStandardsPackage.Aspreviouslynoted,thereisabroadrangeofexcellentGACsolutionsthatareguidelines,models,andpromisingpractices.However,therearerealadvantagestostandards-basedGlobalsolutionsbeyondtheobviousgoalofinteroperabilitywithothersystems.Becausethesedeliverablesarewritteninanormativelanguage(forexample,“thetoolmustdothis”insteadof“thetoolshoulddothis”),implementationscanbemoredefinitivelyevaluatedas“conformant.”Operationallyandfiscally,thislabelofassuranceisimportanttopractitionersasatypeof“sealofapproval”and—perhapsevenmoreso—toserviceprovidersinprivateindustrywhoarelookingtoinvestandleverageGlobaltechnologiesandservicesintheproductstheyoffer.
