Specialized Knowledge and ExperienceYour Regional Analysis course will give you the tools and frameworks to assess the market potential and corresponding risks of any region or country in the world. During the assessment process, you’ll examine the social, cultural, political, economic, technological and legal aspects of each.

You’ll graduate with a level of professional working profi ciency in at least two languages. You’ll use your second language in a business environment during your International Work Term. And you’ll have the option of studying for a term at one of Schulich’s global business school partners.

In addition to your International Business Core Courses, you’ll have access to elective courses from Schulich’s 20 areas of specialization, including management functions such as Marketing, industry sectors such as Financial Services and special business issues such as Business and Sustainability.

The International Field StudyThe International Field Study, hallmark of the IMBA, takes you far beyond the traditional case method. Each fi eld study is conducted by a team of IMBA students with varied experience and specialized knowledge. Throughout the project, you’ll integrate the various business disciplines you’ve been studying and apply them holistically to real clients, real problems and real solutions. This hands-on learning tool will help you develop applied strategic thinking and real-world judgment and decision-making skills.

You and your team will begin by identifying a company or organization you would like to study. Once your proposal has been approved, you’ll develop a comprehensive strategic consulting report for the organization. At the end of the project, your group will present its fi nal report to senior management and defend the recommendations it contains.

Beyond the ClassroomGet involved. Be active. Both Schulich students and alumni underline the importance of this. Take advantage of the countless opportunities Schulich provides to enhance your formal, in-class learning.

Attend some of the dozens of events that student-led organizations put on throughout the year, including guest lectures, expert panels and conferences. Hone your leadership skills as an executive member of one of the School’s numerous clubs.

Represent the School in high-profi le local, national and international competitions sponsored by a wide range of organizations. These include case competitions, business plans, entrepreneurial ventures, and more. By competing, you’ll strengthen a variety of skills – interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, group management, negotiation and strategic planning.

REAl-WORlD EXPERIENCE

Your Global Competitive Advantage.

“ I chose Schulich because it is Canada’s best business school for learning about sustainability. The IMBA broadened my understanding of international business and best practices in countries like Japan. This specialized knowledge has been indispensable to my work as Executive Director of a national energy and environmental policy think tank.”

“ The IMBA opened a world of opportunities. I developed leadership skills in a multicultural environment. This proved invaluable to my career and personal growth. My Scotiabank work term in international banking resulted in a job offer before I graduated. The IMBA experience continues to yield rich rewards.”

International Work TermThe International Work Term is one of the IMBA’s most valuable learning experiences. To date, over 300 companies of all sizes, government agencies and non-governmental organizations in more than 50 countries around the world have employed IMBAs. During your own work term, you’ll typically spend a minimum of 12 weeks in a country and region that interests you. You’ll normally work in one of your offi cial IMBA languages. In the past, work term projects have ranged from industry analyses and market research to the design of a new logistics system. Your project will offer you an opportunity to gain both international business experience and knowledge as you learn to adapt to different contexts and cultures.

“ My IMBA work term host, 9thCO, is one of Toronto’s most successful interactive digital agencies. I worked there on a business development project that included competitor analysis, market research and scenario analysis. I also designed social media strategies for clients. As I am an international student, it was an ideal introduction to the Canadian business environment.”

“ Konstantinos was 9thCO’s second IMBA student. He was knowledgeable, professional and highly committed. Thanks to his excellent training and education, we were able to complete several internal business development projects. 9thCO hopes that we delivered Canadian workplace experience that will help Konstantinos with his future career.”
