any internationally-oriented companies and institutes which open facilities in Dresden bring with them not only modern technologies, futuristic projects and new jobs, but also new workers and their families. The presence of these families necessitates an educational institution with

a capacity to serve international students. In Dresden this need is fulfilled by the Dresden International School, which thereby represents an important economic and structural element of the region.Since the founding of the school, the student population has grown from 13 students in 1996 to 530 students today. These students originate from five different continents, and their steady growth in numbers generates new challenges and needs for the school.The Annen Campus in the heart of Dresden, which was created through the renovation of an existing school and the addition of newly constructed facilities, is an integrated learning centre in which students and teachers from many different countries learn and explore together.The school is dedicated to intercultural understanding and to the individual talents of young people.Under the umbrella title of “Leave Your Mark”, a multitude of committed and caring parents have developed several fund-raising initiatives to support the goals of the school.The idea for this “Global Dining” book was born at the school’s traditional Spring Festival. Each year guests at the festival are treated to cuisine that is as culturally diverse as the families who make up the school community. Baked, fried and roasted, the specialities from around the world are always a hit.“Global Dining” contains representation from the 40 countries which are present in our school community. In addition you can also find a favourite recipe from our director Geoff Clark, board chair Christa Peterson and three recipes from our patron Stefan Hermann, one of which is especially created together with our sponsor Deutsche See. Den daraus resultierenden Bedarf an internationaler Schulbildung stellt die

Dresden International School sicher und ist damit zu einem Wirtschaftsfaktor für die Region geworden.Seit Gründung der Schule im Jahre 1996 ist die Schülerzahl von 13 auf heute 530 aus fünf Kontinenten stetig angestiegen. When the Dresden International School asked me to cook something special for the annual Spring Festival, I did not hesitate in saying yes. It was there that I experienced the international cuisine of the school, and was impressed to

see families presenting their delicacies, tasting the food together and sharing recipes.

I am particularly pleased therefore that the school collected these country-typical recipes from the parents, and have presented them here in the cookbook “Global Dining”.

These 40 recipes from 40 nations:• invite us to get to know the culinary delights of the world,• combine the influences of modern cooking with tradition,• represent a diversity that is the daily school routine,• will benefit the new school building at the Annen Campus.

At DIS different cultures are brought together and combined to make one large community. I whole-heartedly support the philosophy of the school which promotes open-mindedness and tolerance.

ls mich die Dresden International School gefragt hat, das jährlich stattfi ndende Spring Festival mit einem Kochbeitrag zu bereichern, habe ich sofort JA gesagt. Ich hatte damals die Gelegenheit, das internationale Büff et der Schule zu

erleben und war begeistert, wie die Familien ihre Köstlichkeiten präsentierten, gemeinsam probierten und sich über Rezepte austauschten.

Deshalb freue ich mich ganz besonders, dass die Schule in dem Kochbuch „Global Dining“ landestypische Rezepte durch Eltern zusammengetragen hat.

So sind 40 Rezepte aus 40 Ländern entstanden, • die uns einladen, die kulinarischen Genüsse der Welt kennenzulernen,• die moderne Einfl üsse der Küche mit Tradition verbinden,• die eine Vielfalt repräsentieren, welche an der Schule gelebter Alltag ist,• die das Schulneubauprojekt Annen Campus fi nanziell unterstützen.
