They have enjoyed familiarising themselves with the school and the children that will be their class mates next year. It’s been great to see their smiling faces each week and their confidence grow as they prepare for their journey through their school years. Library News We are changing to a new Library system called Oliver. It will be more user friendly for the children through their own library page - Orbit, which they will be able to personalise. Due to the system change over and stocktake, the last week for borrowing was Week 6. All books need to be returned by Week 8, this is both library and home readers. We ask for you to encourage your child to look for and return their books. It will make Mrs Hart’s job a lot easier and she will have all the books ready to begin borrowing in 2016. A BIG thank you to the P&C for their continued support of the library, Glenreagh would not have such a great up to date collection without it, thank you. Happy Reading. Stage 3 Excursion to Canberra Early this term, stage 3 combined with the Orara Valley community of schools to travel to Canberra. Students really enjoyed themselves as it was a once in a lifetime experience. The excursion included a number of significant sites such as:

New and Old Parliament House, Telstra Tower, The Australian War Memorial, The Australian Museum, and The Australian Institute of Sport. The accommodation and meals were fantastic as was the behaviour of all the students from the valley.

Year 3/4 Excursion to Yarrawarra While the Years 5 and 6 were with their Orara Valley peers at Canberra, the Years 3 and 4 participated in an excursion to Yarrawarra Aboriginal Cultural Centre, Corindi with students from Coramba and Ulong schools. They all had a wonderful time enjoying the many activities, e.g., bush walking, screen printing, painting and throwing their own boomerangs. Thank you to Mrs Pobjoy and Mr Mayled who accompanied them.

4/5/6 Class News While Mrs Smith is helping the students learn to swim, Mr Paul Smythe is looking after the class. Mr Smythe did some of his teacher training here in 2013. Mr Smythe is a welcome addition to the teaching staff and has a strong artistic and mechanical background. The class is doing a number of interesting projects from making Viking masks and ships to repairing bicycles and repairing a new chicken coop for our chooks.

Special Swimming Scheme It’s that time of the year again when the school participates in the Special Swimming Scheme. The programme is run daily for two weeks and enables students the opportunity to learn how to swim or develop their swimming strokes and endurance. They are taught water safety and survival skills. Students are graded into groups and develop their skills and confidence under the tuition of qualified Austswim teachers. At the end of the course they receive certificates for

the level that they attained. Thank you to Su Salmon for assisting us this year. Let’s hope

t h e w a r m weather holds out.

K/1D Class News A few weeks ago Cooper and Arabelle’s mum Alex came to our class to give a talk about Scuba Diving. We learnt that you need to be well-prepared before you dive with the correct apparatus. She showed us some photographs of her under-water adventures and the students had many and varied questions for her which she so generously provided informative and descriptive explanations about scuba diving. Thank you Alex J. This term we are exploring past and present holidays. We have compared how The Allen’s Family spent their holidays in the 1900s to the way we take our holidays. Now we can go on a plane to another city or country in a few hours or days but 100 years ago passenger planes were not around. We are learning about skills such as catching, jumping, sprinting and balancing and we apply those skills into games and fun activities during ‘Live Life Well’ daily exercise. The children have become very good at working as a team during these exercises. Just cuts Hair Vouchers IS IT TIME for a haircut? Save yourself some money. We have a number of $29 'Just Cuts' Coffs Harbour vouchers available for purchase. They are available for purchase from the school for ONLY $20.
