Congratulations to all the parents (too many to mention) on a great job in organising such a wonderful event.

Canberra Camp – Parliament and Civics Education Rebate (PACER) Students from our school have recently undertaken an education tour of the national capital. Students will be given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government contributed funding of $20 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate was included in the camp fees charged to your child.

How to help your child deal with online safety issues As parents and carers you know your child better than anyone and have the best opportunity to support and guide them to have safer online experiences. Help your children safely navigate their digital world and educate them to avoid harmful online experiences. Explore websites, games, apps and social media together and set some rules. Your support and guidance can give your children the confidence to make sound decisions online — and ask for help when they need it. Some of our students have been accessing some websites and games that can be harmful. Parents are often unaware that their child has accessed sites through YouTube or Google that are inappropriate and then share this information at school. For tips and advice on helping your child have safe and enjoyable experiences online go to:

https://www.esafety.gov.au/ Another Great term We would like to congratulate all of our students for working hard throughout this term to achieve many of their personal, educational, social, sporting and cultural goals. All of the teachers truly appreciate the “self-drive” you have all developed throughout this term. Thanks, as always, also to our parents for your ongoing support, at home and at school. We couldn’t do the focused job of teaching without your support. Thanks to the staff, teaching and support, for ensuring our core business ALWAYS revolves around teaching and learning. We have many reasons to feel proud. We look forward to achieving even greater things next term.

Enrolments Enrolments have now all been processed for 2020. If you have children who are due to start Kinder in 2020 and you live in Glenorie (no out of areas accepted), please enrol them before the end of this term. You will need to provide a Birth Certificate and Immunisation details and 100 points of residential proof. If you have new neighbours with school-aged children, please ask them to contact the school for enrolment packages. If you plan on moving out of the area at the end of this year (therefore resulting in your children not attending Glenorie PS in 2020), please inform the school in writing before the end of this term. Thanks

Thanks to our Volunteers On behalf of the staff at school, I would like to offer sincere thanks to the many parents who offer their time and effort to make our school a wonderful learning environment for students. Your commitment to the students and school certainly allows us all to work, learn and play in a great environment…you are all truly appreciated!

School Planning… As the year draws to an end, many students and parents will begin to think, “Who will be teaching the children next year?” As with previous years, draft plans will be developed, however, we will not inform you about teachers/classes until 2020; our decision is not based on a conspiracy-theory secret society…it is based on the fact that due to potential enrolments up to and during the holidays, any planned structure may change in the new school year anyway. Thanks for your understanding in this matter.

2nd GPS Warrior Colour Run 2019

We hope everyone enjoyed the 2019 GPS Warrior Colour Run. Below is an article

that will feature in the next issue of the Galston, Glenorie and Hills Rural

Community New magazine. We would like to congratulate all the students for

enjoying the day so much and in their fundraising efforts of $18,000.

We sincerely thank Olivia Solomon, Dennise Williams, Christine Gillies, Hayley

Murray, Madona Habkouk, Libby Cuza, Imelda Zubrycki, Kelly Kearns, Kristin

Stewart, Jennifer Tully, Brenda King and Kate Devaney for their dedication to the

organising committee. These days don’t just happen and without the efforts of these

wonderful mums a day like Friday couldn’t take place.

We would also like to thank all our dedicated business sponsors and a special mention to all the families that

donated lollies or other materials for the day – especially the Camilleri family for the wonderful fruit and bottled

water.

Glenorie Public School’s P & C recently held their 2nd Biannual GPS Warrior Colour run 2019 on Friday 20th

September. It started as a health initiative for the kids and turned into an amazing fun-filled day full of fitness,

challenges, community involvement and very enjoyable for all the community.

All students that registered, gained their fundraising card and an online link and

were asked to go out and gain sponsorship to complete the obstacle course. All

students involved completed the course in record time and were able to have a

laugh and cheer along the way. Not only did they have fun with their peers,

teachers and parents but Glenorie Fire Brigade and Hornsby Police station

joined in giving support to our community and our children. "A wonderful event

to show our commitment and support to our community". Our Local Hornsby

Police Officer joined in the fun with the teachers and parents race. One of our

students said "Its nice to see the police having fun with us”.

This year we surprised the kids with Kyle Jeffery, an NRL player from the North

Sydney Bears, who opened the event and motivated our kids. They were excited

with cheer!!

All students were challenged to an inflatable obstacle to start the race, then

on to a further 12 obstacles (sack race, hanging noodle structure, fairy garden

with bubbles, hay barrel jump-overs, army net crawls, tractor tyre runs, mud

rolls and water sprayed from a fire truck, rock climbing wall, abseil and not

to mention colour bomb stations!!!! This was the students’ favourite obstacle

"Running through the colours was so much FUN!!"). All the students were

timed and ran to the finish line to cheer

on their house colours. It's not about the

fastest runner but the teamwork of our

house colours working together to get every student to the finish line in the

shortest amount of time. Year 6 students teamed up with Kindergarten to help

get through the course.

The organising committee and all the

parent volunteers did a fantastic job in

providing such a wonderful, fulfilled,

enjoyable and physical event to the

students and we look forward to 2021

where we will get the next opportunity

to do it all again.

We would like to thank our Community Sponsors – Gold - Glenorie RSL Silver - Phoenix Dance Studio, The Hills Bookkeeper, Camerlot Amusements, Belle Property – Carolyn Wheatley, Dooral Early Learning Centre

Bronze - Strive Dance Wear, Leaf it to me Garden Care, Solomon’s Fire Doors, Arbonne, Sweet Pea Skin & Hair.
