Glasteel Column Pfaudler pioneered the devel-opment and use of Glasteel as a material of construction.Advanced enameling technol-ogy is used to produce glasslining for column shells, bonnets and support rings.

Pfaudler Glasteel columnscombine the inert properties of glass with the structuralstrength of steel. Glass liningoffers many advantages over other lining materials:

• Highly resistant to strongacids, powerful oxidizersand organics except for fluo-ride elements.

• Glass is essentially inert, so it cannot adversely affectproduct purity or flavor.

• Glass is impermeable, elimi-nating cross contamination.

• The fire polished surface ofthe glass lining providesanti-stick properties, thusminimizing fouling factors.

Glasteel columns areavailable in:• Sizes ranging from 6 inch

to 78 inch diameter.

• Single shell or jacketeddesign.

• Wide range of pressure ratings to meet variousprocess requirements.

• Temperature ratings rangingfrom -20º F to +450º F.

Glasteel columns aredesigned and fabricated inaccordance with ASME Coderequirements.

PackingPfaudler works closely withvarious packing suppliers toprovide the best random orstructured packing solution to your process.

Random packing is availablein different sizes and shapesto provide high surface con-tact area for mass transferwhile minimizing pressuredrop. Random packing isavailable in various materialsof construction such as: fluoropolymers, alloy andceramic. Selected material is dependent on compatibilitywith process chemistry. Thesame design parameters areconsidered when selectingstructured packing.

Column InternalsColumn internals are cus-tomized to each application.Optimization is the goal whenretrofitting existing columnsor constructing new units.

Column internals are con-stucted of fluoropolymers,alloy or ceramic, and are provided in a wide variety ofdesigns and configurations.

Each of the following arereviewed to maximize columnperformance:

• Maximum capacity.

• Uniform liquid distribution.

• Resistance to plugging or fouling.

• Proper turndown capability.

• Minimum pressure drop.

• Minimal distributor height to allow more packed bed height.

• Cross-mixing capability.

Orifice riser distributor combines a standard orificeand weir type distributor tohandle a wide range of liquidflow rates. This uniquedesign results in low pres-sure drop and reduced liquidentrainment.

Ladder distributor providesuniform liquid distributionover the column packed bed.

Combination distributor and bed limiter prevents column packing from rising andobstructing the function of the distributor inupset conditions and reduces the number of support rings in the column.

Engineers design the columnto meet the specific chemicalor physical process require-ments by utilizing computersimulation programs. Thedesign takes into accountcolumn size, throughput, trayhydraulics, pressure drop,packing properties, heatingand cooling demands, andcorrosion parameters affect-ing material selection. Thecolumn design is optimizedto provide high performance,long service life and the lowest initial cost.

Engineered Systems providescomplete skid-mounted sys-tems with all auxiliary equip-ment, piping, instrumentsand control system.
