Built by Aegis Dynamics, the P5G-Gladius is an older design which has been updated over the years to keep up with modern technology. In military circles, the P5G-Gladius is beloved for its performance and its simplicity. A fast, light fighter with a laser-focus on dogfighting, the P5G-Gladius is an ideal interceptor or escort ship. Fewer moving parts than the Hornet means new pilots can adapt to the ship more quickly and ground crews can keep them flying more easily. Now, the P5G-Gladius is available for civilians! With some P5G-Gladius squadrons converting to the wider deployment of the F7C Hornet and the introduction of the F8 Lightning to elite units, the Navy has begun to auction older Gladii to planetary governments and qualified mercenaries.

An aircraft canopy is the transparent enclosure over the cockpit of some types of aircraft. The function of the canopy is to provide a weatherproof and reasonably quiet environment for the aircraft's occupants. The canopy will be as aerodynamically shaped as possible to minimize drag.

On many high-performance military aircraft, the canopy is an integral part of the ejection seat system. The pilot cannot be ejected from the aircraft until the canopy is no longer in the path of the ejection seat. In most ejection seat equipped aircraft, the canopy is blown upwards and rearwards by explosive charges.

In the event of an ejection, the explosive cord is activated first, shattering the canopy. Then the ejection seat (and pilot) are launched through the shattered canopy.

    P5G-Gladius Entering/Exiting Craft

The cockpit enclosure is a quarter teardrop-shape built out of reinforced diamond laminate plating is rated to provide limited protection against cosmic and atmospheric elements. This canopy is designed to give you an unobstructed field of view to the sides, front and above. Operators enter the craft through the left side using a self-deploying ladder and handholds. You should be careful when entering/exiting the spacecraft to not accidentally activate craft functions.

The instruments of the P5G-Gladius cockpit are shown above. Instrument training in a single-seat fighter is paramount for any successful operator. Your instruments are your eyes and ears into the inner workings of your spacecraft, so an innate understanding of each and every gauge and readout will only increase your readiness and understanding of any situation, whether in combat or out.

Featuring a three-barrel sequential fire design, the Klaus & Werner CF-007 Bulldog repeater is capable of high rates of fire while maintaining accuracy. It has low damage per projectile and, although it has relatively low power consumption over-all, several publications have commented on its somewhat lackluster efficiency. Even so, the CF-007 remains a favorite among new pilots who are outfitting their first ship.

MISSION The P5G-GLADIUS is a compact, multi-role fighter aircraft. It is highly maneuverable and has proven itself in Dog Fighting combat. It provides a relatively low-cost, high-performance weapon system for

the United Empire Earth and allied systems.

Tactics background The nature of air combat has remained the since Fokkers fought Spads in air power's World War I

debut. The Red Baron himself summed it up when he said, "Rove your allotted area, find the enemy and shoot him down...... anything else is rubbish." These words, describing the ultimate goal of the fighter pilot, are true today as they were 1031 years ago. While the nature of air combat has remained the same, the mechanics have undergone radical change, new aircrafts, physics of space. Most of this change, surprisingly, has come about in the Messer Era because high-thrust fighters such as the P5G-GLADIUS entered service in large numbers and expanded the combat maneuvering envelope. The Basic Fighter Maneuvers /BFM/ that many generations of fighter pilots grew up with became obsolete with the introduction of the P5G-GLADIUS in the early 2540s. Fighter pilots had to change the way they thought about BFM in order to successfully employ the P5G-GLADIUS. In the one-versus-one maneuvering environment, vertical out-of-plane maneuvers such as high yo-yos were rapidly replaced with in-plane turn circle BFM, decoupled mode BFM. The new maneuvers were perfected in the UPE (which is now UEE) System by the men and women of the P5G-GLADIUS Fighter Weapons School.

    P5G-Gladius Tactics

The P5G-Gladius was designed and built to engage the enemy. In the hands of a trained operator, opponents will quickly find that this light fighter is more than capable of delivering heavy hits. Throughout its decorated career, Commanders have found the P5G-Gladius versatility ideal for a variety of objectives from interception to reconnaissance, and even blockade running.

    P5G-Gladius Tactics Radar Avoidance

Since radar waves travel in lines, large objects will generally obscure a radar's signal. Therefore, if you pick up a radar signal, you can drop to a point behind a object, this masking your radar signature. This

is a useful technique to approach a radar installation undetected and for breaking a radar's lock on your aircraft.

There is other ways to fly under the radar by adjusting thrusters, noise, heat, ECM and etc.
